That and the weeks on end of -40c.
I actually really enjoyed the time I lived in Winnipeg ('96 to '98 or so).

The Piper Cub came back from buying cookies and lemonade from our local MLA’s kids, who were running a lemonade stand down the street.
You must be a good dad for him to want to come back. How old is he now?
I live in Edmonton now, but was in Winnipeg my whole life until 3 years ago. I miss it, not the -40, but I sure miss going to the beach!
I’ve only been through Winnipeg once, on business, about 3 or 4 years ago in the late summer and I loved what I saw of it. The down town Forks area reminded me of the market area in Ottawa.
The Viking longship Draken Harald Hårfagre is arriving in St. Anthony on Wed. 1 June at about noon. A most excellent invasion. http://www.drakenexpeditionamerica.com/
A video of the event:
:DOk at least I know some of the words Robert Plant was screeching after all these years.
Pretty cool thing to do. Bet that was a cold, wavy and cold trip.
Edit: wait they are leaving form here and going to Iceland? I just assumed it was crazy Scandinavians doing such a thing. Well still gonna be cold.
We had 300 South African Firefighters staying on the base yesterday. Everywhere they went, they ran and sang. It was awesome. We posted a video on the base Facebook, if you want to see:
Terrific!
MPSIMS related to the previous HOC Beiber incident. So, I’m standing on this corner in LKF, taking a break from work (and people watching - it is short short season here in HK, so worth taking the time:)). I notice an old lady walking down the middle of the street with her cane (no shorts, thank zeus!) when a big truck comes up behind her. Being Hong Kong where vehicles rationally have the right of way on roads, two girls walking down the sidewalk rush to her aid and try to take her arms to get her off the street before the truck make a puddle out of her. Brown could take lessons on how to deal with people trying to ‘assist’ him anywhere from woman. This 80year old, sub-5’ woman slowly walking with a cane shrugged the girls off like she was an NFL tackle. And the look she gave them! She proceeded at her own slow pace down the road, vehicles apparently be damned. The driver of the truck shrugs his shoulders at the two girls who at that point don’t know what to do.
Well, the PM’s Elbow has been cleared. parliamentary committee has closed the matter, in part because Brosseau indicated she thought it was best if they all just moved on.
Opposition drops inquiry to Justin Trudeau’s ‘elbowgate’ incident
Reading between the lines, I think they figured out that no-one would look good if they did anything more on this one.
Two years ago today an idiot with a gun went off his nut and killed 3 RCMP officers. Today a monument to those officers was unveiled.
Today we remember, with thanks, their sacrifice. Resurgo.
Thank you for posting that link.
Sad to see the “Canada AM” show cancelled. I watched it for years, and it was a nice way to start the day.
That makes me feel old, for I see Jeff Hutchinson is retiring, yet the last time I watched Canada AM he was the weather guy/host who was the most recently hired of the lot.
This show started a year before I was born. I grew up watching it because my dad insisted on having it on in the mornings. Canada AM and The National / Journal are the reasons I’m a news junkie today. My family only had peasant-vision.
About 12 years ago Mrs. Zeke and I used to watch the show religiously because a) we were awake at that time and b) we only had peasant-vision.
I haven’t watched the show in years (we don’t even have peasant-vision) but when I read of Jeff’s retirement and, shortly after, the end of the show I was saddened.
On the commute out to and back from the satellite office: five moose, four bears, one skunk, one osprey, one wolf, and from the endangered species list, a telephone booth with a phone in it.
Is this what we can expect when Trudeau appoints elected officials to cabinet positions simply because of their gender?
Did Justin not check out her credentials?
Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. Just how dumb is she? And what else can she be fooled on, especially when it comes to climate change?
