I watched the Leafs and Habs game on TV. I never said I would boycott anything once they returned. I’m pretty sure the game will be unaffected in Canada. It’s going to be interesting in the smaller US markets though, although opening day attendance seemed to be unaffected from what I can tell thus far.
Got my tickets to the Sens home opener! Be interesting to see if this free beer promotion backfires horribly on them…
I don’t watch hockey. Or most other sports, for that matter.
How so?
I watched the same game as Leaffan on TV Saturday, and it seemed there was never a strike, my Habs still unfortunately suck!
I’m on my phone, but Google “ten cent beer night.” Cleveland Indians tried it. Promotional alcohol tends to go very badly, haha…
Anyways, that’s just the cynic in me talking. Super stoked for the game!
Ya, but isn’t the plan at Scotiabank place just to give one free beer to each adult who wants one?
No. I had barely forgiven them for the labour dispute that saw the Stanley Cup unawarded in 2005. (The London Knights are the 2005 Stanley Cup champions, in my opinion.)
I’m not sure when I’ll forgive them for this one, but it’s certainly not going to be any time soon.
God damn them all, I will hold
til we compete for Olympic gold.
I’ve found far better uses for my entertainment dollar and my time.
There was an article in the Calgary Sun today about Chief Clarence Louie.
I enjoyed hearing from a successful band chief, and I’d be very interested in his ideas for how to improve relations between the Canadian government and First Nations peoples.
For better or for worse, it sounds like a good portion of the formula for success is “location, location, location”. A luxury resort and golf course near Penticton is probably going to be more successful than one on James Bay, for instance.
Well, maybe, but eco-tourism is big right now, and it’s only going to get bigger. Washow Lodge is a place I’d like to visit on James Bay…
Somewhat similarly, there was an excellent piece in the weekend National Post about the remote James Bay reserves (including Attawapiskat). It is a lengthy piece, but the overall impression I got was that while the James Bay reserves have some unique challenges, they can be successful if they choose to be. See here:
Sure, but that’s one in addition to the ones people would budget for. A few people in a group are going to be giving theirs to others, etc. Look, I’m not EXPECTING anything to happen. I’m just saying that needs to cross your mind before you give any free alcohol away at a sporting event.
Can I have yours?
HELL NO! I’m going with a group of 6, and there’s two teetotallers in there. Good times to be had!
I do. Unfortunately it would require the cooperation of industry and two levels of government so it’ll never work. Make driver’s licences chip enabled and put an interlock on the ignition system that has to be mandated for all highway vehicles. You want to drive, insert your DL in the slot. You never forget your licence and revoked licences won’t work.
It could quite easily be installed in any vehicle, wouldn’t be terribly expensive, and won’t ever be implimented because it makes too much sense…
Nope, I went to see Spamalot. We had a great time, I love supporting amateur theatre here.
Tough shit; I think it’s brilliant. Let’s start the petitions…
What’s your basis for assuming that it would be inexpensive? Does it connect to the web to judge the status of your driver license to make sure it hasn’t been revoked or expired?
I would have but the cable’s out.
Actually, the problem is I can either have cable TV or Internet at any given time. Something’s wrong with the strength of the signal.
Going a week without TV is beginning to sell me on the idea of just not having cable TV at all. If I could get Blue Jays and Senators games through their online streaming services (but of course, I can’t, because I live in a place they will not let me watch those teams online) I’d cancel TV tomorrow. But the damn blackout rules have me by the nards.
