The CanaDoper Café, 2013 edition.

Phew! A 16-page special section on all this is just silly, IMHO.

In other news, the former mayor of Lethbridge is suing a local blogger for defamation. Not the kind of thing that would make the national news, but locally newsworthy, certainly.

How I wish that the Rob Ford situation was only locally newsworthy!

Sorry–double post.

Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.

Now Toronto schools aren’t allowed to send their kids on trips to City Hall. From the article: Toronto Councillor Karen Stintz has confirmed that city staff have suspended all school trips to city hall deeming the environment to be “unsafe.”

I wonder about how she feels about his press conference over pussy eating. http://youtu.be/JWj0en_dQKI

He’s a sloppy and shallow thinker, is he? I don’t think I want a sloppy, shallow thinker as my Prime Minister.

Hmmm… Maybe some of this should go into attack ads? Now what do you think? Some of this stuff is gold for the Conservatives: gold!

Hey, at least he thinks, rather then bulling his way through stuff with drunken bravado!

What is it with the Liberal party’s recent inability to pick a leader who has the chops to get the job done? The last one was Martin Jr., who was sunk by the sponsorship scandal. Like him or not, like his policies or not (Harper is too far the right on social and environmental issues for me), since 2006 a fellow can handle the job has held it.

Still not sold.

Good question. Marc Garneau would have been ideal. Holy hell, I would have entertained Marc Garneau as a leader. He has education and credentials up the wazoo:

.

And Justin Trudeau, the part time drama teacher gets the nod?

Exactly. I just don’t get it.

To be fair to Justin Trudeau, he is very man-pretty and he has the correct last name to win a shit-tonne of votes among the masses of people who don’t invest a lot of time into being informed about anything more important than who is winning the latest season of Survivor.

He seems like he’s good at telling speeches that idiots can quote on Facebook. It’s paid huge dividends for Barack Obama. I have no doubt Trudeau will form a big majority government.

To be fair, just because someone is godlike in one field of endeavor does not mean they are particularly suited for politics (or any other field)

That’s what you really see happening? I don’t know how it will go - I can see parts of Ontario and Quebec liking him, but I don’t see the West or the Maritimes going for him.

I’m cynical to a fault! What can I say? If you believe the Politicos I go to school with, Naheed Nenshi has turned the whole of the Prairie provinces socialist.

I can see him doing well in K-beck and ON, and making inroads in BC. That sounds like enough to carry a majority, no?

Maybe, maybe not. I know enough people back in Ontario who wouldn’t vote for a party led by a Trudeau if you paid them. On the other hand, if that party was led by Garneau…

Of course, the only poll that counts is on election day; though it will be interesting to see what develops in the runup to that.

I know plenty of people here in Quebec who won’t vote Liberal next time either, so I’m wondering if the NDP will still be strong here and elsewhere throughout the country. They wouldn’t be strong enough to get their leader elected, but that might lead to another 4 years with Harper, and give him a chance to transform this country completely-- into a country where I wouldn’t want to live.

Personally, I always thought, and still think, that choosing Justin Trudeau as leader was a mistake.
