Also BC Hydro whose downtown tower, the Electra Building got turned into a pretty cool condo tower in Vancouver when they moved offices.
In Manitoba, 24 packs weren’t available initially so a case was 12, and a two four was, well, a two-four. That was the 80s and early 90s though. As Poysyn points out, it’s a box and case respectively now.
Funny we never cam up with a slang term for the 18 packs. Back in the 80’s it was the perfect number of beers for a party.
I remember even drinking OV because, at one time, it was the only one left that sold them.
I remember 18-packs. Notwithstanding their suitability for parties, they were never terribly popular. And speaking from experience, I can assure you that when we at the Beer Store prepared a pallet of empties to return, they were difficult to stack on a pallet together with 24s, 12s, and 6s.
Hm. Lots of memories of my time at the Beer Store. Maybe I should do an “Ask the former Beer Store Guy.” ![]()
Some pictures from today -
Mountain ash berries and blue spruce.
Cat Whisperer, I guess the magpies don’t migrate? I was talking to a friend from Saskatoon, who had recently visited there (back in Saskatoon), and she said it was pretty cold in November and there were still magpies there.
But wouldn’t the answer to every question be: the same: [bob&doug]“Beer.”[/bob&doug]
I don’t know if magpies and crows migrate or not - it seems like they hang around for part of the winter, then are gone for part of it. Looking it up, apparently magpies do not migrate. Crows migrate a little.
Crows seem to migrate to the nearest dump.
Hm. Yeah, probably.
It’s probably too localized to be of interest as an “Ask the” thread in MPSIMS; but seriously, if any Ontario Dopers (or others who have patronized one of Ontario’s Beer Stores) have any questions, ask away.
Yeah, hey thanks for the Magpie snap. I’m pretty much up on birds in this area; I’ve never seen a magpie.
Look atthis crow in Russia. He created his own amusement park ride. These birds are scarey intelligent.
I think that’s a regionalism; I’ve never heard it used in this part of the country. In fact, this is the first time I’ve seen it in print (in that sense; the term “food fair” is used in many other senses.) They’re “food courts” here.
I’ve never heard it either.
There are Food Fare grocery stores, FWIW, but I’ve never heard the term food fair before this thread.
I’m not sure what a food court is. A multi-outlet fast-food area in a mall, otherwise known as a squat ‘n’ gobble?
Well a court, like a courtyard, where vendors arrange themselves along the sides. So food court isn’t a terrible name.
Squat & Gobble sounds like an appallingly bad porn parody.

Nitpick: I don’t think you can practically copyright a single word, perhaps it’s more of a trademark?
I literally saw that term for the first time yesterday at St. Laurent mall in Ottawa. But it was for the Bay, so it sounds like your theory is bang on!
You’re right. Trademark.
It’s the ‘squat’ part that pushes it over the edge, I think.
The “gobble” isn’t helping, either.
