The Candidate Calculator

Now there’s a scientific way to choose whom to vote for in 2008.

I matched with Giuliani. Looks like I have to vote Republican for the first time in my life!

Given that the last one of these that popped up seemed to come up Kucinich (or however you spell his name) for pretty much everyone, I’m gonna throw out a guess that the results that appear in this thread will be singularly impressive.

Well, I’m firmly on the Lunatic Fringe. Still. I’ve been matched with Ron Paul. And from what I know of the various candidates, I can’t say the calculator is wrong - but then again, some of his positions are so far out there that though I may have more in common with the majority of his positions than most of the other candidates, the impression I’ve got is that he’s got a few positions that are almost divorced from reality which would turn me off of him, even if he were to get the nod.

Besides, after 8 years of Republicans in the Oval Office, it’s time to KBO, anyways.

Hmm… no mention of a candidate’s personality, presentability, or character.

Seriously… in this sort of thing, I always get matched with Ron Paul, with (my preferred candidate) Fred Thompson, as number two. This wouldn’t happen if “Candidate doesn’t look like a weenie” was a votable option.

No, just the issues. Doom! Cats and dogs sleeping together!

I got matched with Gravel… which I suppose is okay. But it’s completely nuts that Mitt Romney comes in a very close second, Guiliani a gnat’s ass behind, and Kucinich a point behind him.

Whatever.

Which is exactly the same results I got.

I guess I’m more liberal than I thought. 92% match with Kucinich, then 88% with Gravel and 80% with Obama.

Gravel 85.71%
Kucinich 76.19%
Obama 66.67%
Richardson 61.90%

In other words, what all the other things of this nature say.

I got Gravel, and then Kucinich, Obama, and Biden, but I’m embarrassed to admit that I have, at best, only a vague idea who Gravel is. (And I wasn’t particularly impressed with Kucinich the time I heard him speak, so I think I’ll go with Obama.)

I seem to be solidly Republican. I got a 77% match with Ron Paul, and Fred Thompson is a 70% match with me. I like how you can rate issues as being of high/medium/low importance.

I got Gravel (a ROCK of a candidate…)

Followed by Biden, Kucinich and Obama.

Middle of the road was Dodd, Edwards, Richardson and Hillary (and many more.)

I’m still voting for Hill.

Kucinich
Gravel
Biden
Clinton

I only know who one of these people are (though i’ve heard of Kucinich and Biden). Not that it matters.

Of them all, I like Huckabee most, but I scored highest for Romney, Tancredo  , and Thompson (3-way tie) with Hunter right after, THEN Huckabee.

Oh- and lowest for Edwards, Gravel and Kucinich.

I’m Canadian, so I obviously won’t be voting in the US in 2008, but my results are:

Top Match:
Dennis Kucinich (D) 86.96% match

Other Top Matches:
Mike Gravel (D)82.61%
Bill Richardson (D) 70.29%
Barack Obama (D) 68.84%
Bottom of the Barrel:
Mitt Romney ® 10.14%
Sam Brownback ® 9.42%
Duncan Hunter ® 5.80%
Fred Thompson ® 4.35%

My brother sent this to me awhile back and we had a discussion about it and why we think it was fun, but not all that accurate.

It is all pretty much based on yes, no, unsure answers. However, almost every one of the issues mentioned has far more complex answers.
There is also a difference between political platform speeches and voting records, and how often the candidate actually had the opportunity to vote on that issue to prove what they say is what they do.
Then there is the new political stance versus the old political stance - have they changed their minds recently?

Still, when I took that test, my results were not particularly surprising - all Democrats at the top of my list and Republicans way at the bottom.
My brother had the exact opposite results - no surprise there. So I guess we can declare the test somewhat accurate in at least letting you know if you are liberal or conservative - but neither of us needed a test to determine that.

Dennis Kucinch 92.19%
John Edwards 76.56% (but my personal choice)
Mike Gravel 75.00%
Barack Obama 74.22%
Hillary 73.44%
Rudy 9/11 Tourette’s Guiliani 30.47%
John McCain 20.31%
Mitt Romney 6.25%
Fred Flintstone Thompson 3.13%
Duncan Who The Heck Is He Hunter 0.78%

Looks like I need to rethink some positions in order to get a perfect zero from Hunter.

[ul]
[li] Delaware Senator Joseph Biden (D) - 43.48%[/li][li] Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 41.30%[/li][li] Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd (D) - 36.96%[/li][li] Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 36.96%[/li][li] New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 34.78%[/li][li] Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani ® - 34.78%[/li][/ul]I think I can say Biden is out: He believes in the same ‘Universal Health Care’ nonsense that forces Canada to send people it can’t care for down to America. Ditto Obama. Not very promising so far.

I put down undecided for over half of the issues, and I got 98.57% for Gravel!

Next 3:

94.29% Kucinich
57.14% Richardson
52.86% Paul

So, my 3rd place guy, I only agree with him 57%? I hate all of them (apparently).

When I listened to the debates on the radio, I guess I did like Gravel best…

less that 5% for 4 candidates! (Romney, Hunter, Tancredo, Thompson)

(This is Jamaika a jamaikaiaké), I forgot to log out my wife. Heh.
