The Case of the Missing MMP

Maybe you just answered your own question.

BWAHAHAHA!

My parents have a dog that’s half weimeraner, Dot. You have my sympathy. They’re the most fricking neurotic needy animals.

I think I’m going to just have to accept that I am going to be stressed out for the next month. I thought getting the job would relieve the stress. But instead now I’m stressed about the moving company. And getting packed up. And car insurance. And my parents moving and never being able to see them. And getting tickets to fly myself and my mother out to Mpls for the move. (We both hate driving so aren’t going to drive from here to there; Dad’s driving my car out.) And I’m worried about starting the actual job. It’s going to be 10 hours more at work a week than now! Yeah, I’m spoiled with a 35 hour week right now, but a 45 hour week sounds looooong!

::sigh:: I’m stressed.

Here. Have some chocolate.

Hi everyone…sorry you’re sick today, Dots…hope you’re better by tomorrow. How are rehearsals coming along? Oh, and we’ll want to see the picture when you’re 112. Ummm…perhaps you could do this sooner? Some of us may not be posting here by then.

Oh, and taxi, I’ve got chocolate for you too. (Dark, with whole hazelnuts.) Yeah…moving alone is stressful. Changing jobs and moving out of state pretty much guarantees extra stress. But soon you’ll be settled in, 45 hours/week will seem normal and you’ll decide you just love living in Minnesota. Or…as others have said…this too shall pass.

Paging chaoticbear… Where are you? Why are you ignoring us? Is it true that you are still hiding in swampy’s shrubbery? We demand answers!!!

There aren’t enough rolleyes for Mandy… I think the dog thing is further proof that she’s a Martian.

spats, does any of your profs at RPI know anyone at Waterloo? If so, can they send an e-mail too? That’s likely to help. Sounds like Dartmouth really isn’t your school. If you’re planning to transfer at any point you really want to have a prof who can convince someone in your field to accept you at your next school; doesn’t sound like that could happen with Dartmouth. I will not mention cabbage.

Oh and rigs, what spats said. Did you actually call them to ask when you might expect to hear? Hmmmmm? Did you? They may have a different schedule from the rest of the university. Some specialized graduate programs do.

Sorry and glad about the boat sale, FCM. Sounds like the right financial move, but I’m sure it’s hard if you’ve had a boat for such a long time.

Puggy, glad I’m not the only one who liked that picture.

Hope welby and welbywife have a fun trip. (If I missed him, you can let him know we said hi, right, Lissla?

I nominate peanut butter filled pretzels for kibble. And m&ms.

Long tiring day gave me a headache. That is all.

Off to find something nutritious and maybe a mindless movie to watch.

GT

taxi, baby, you can have all my dark chocolate. You know I don’t like it at all.

Just had dinner with Spats, and that was fun! I kind of got an idea of the impact of my Indian movie through the eyes of someone who’d never seen it…interesting. Woudl you guys be interested in another, maybe next week?

Pugs, I first watched that movie when I was 4 years old, and have never watched it since. It never occured to me where he was getting the money. Maybe he stole the ticket?
I’m glad you liiked it, though!

D’oh! I mean to say I have *often *watched it since, of course. :smack:

I kind of liked it with “never,” Mika. I was amazed at your memory for detail before your next post spoiled it…

GT

Yes, dinner with Mika was awesome, of course. We went to a Pakistani/Indian place and I sampled some Indian cuisine, and everything was delicious. She insisted on giving me all the leftovers, generous soul that she is (Thank you again, by the way, in case I forgot to do that earlier).

I have one professor that has very much been my mentor and guide through this whole process. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know anyone at Waterloo, although he did get in touch with his friend at Syracuse. As far as a transfer out of Dartmouth goes, any one area within physics is close enough for any other for that to work. The first couple of years are just standard graduate courses anyway, so if I went to Dartmouth I’d just have to do well in those, and get people to like me.

… cabbage cabbage cabbage cabbage cabbage. :stuck_out_tongue:

Rats - my post got et.

Boat’s gone. Buyers are rookies - I hope they don’t get in trouble trying to handle such a big vessel (15 tons…) But it’s not our problem, is it?

I want chocolate.

I did indeed call and the woman seemed surprised that I had not heard…it doesn’t feel good.
Now for my current dilemma: #2 son loves Harry Potter. He even looks like a (blonde) HP-it’s the glasses. He also is doing well in his chess club, and wants a chess set for his Bday (8) with mounted knights. His Bday is 5/9.

I started looking online today–dayum, but these are expensive things! It will be his only present (and we have spent comparable amounts on American Girl stuff etc). I have settled on the Harry Potter Final Challenge Chess Set. I refuse to pay the $295 retail (or maybe it was $395–there’s another set that sells for $395). So, I went to ebay. I have no clue what to do on ebay or how to do it.

Why am I boring you with all this? Not sure, just wanted input on how to solve this I guess. I found what I’m looking for, but my husband says that the price usually doubles in a day–right now it’s $127.50. I’m ok with that. I am willing to go to $150, but no more.

Advice?

**RIGS!
**
Hi!!!
(That’s all I got. Just happy to see you.)

Hey there your own self. (need puzzled, but pleased smiley here).
Any thoughts on my chess set dilemma? Chess started in India, afterall.

Oh, my, rigs. Wish I could help with the eBay thing…but I am clueless as I’ve never bought anything there. I’m sure someone will come along shortly and help.

Sounds like an odd phone call with the grad school. When did you talk to her?

GT

rigs, is there a “Buy It Now” button on the top of the product’s main page? A lot of sellers will set a price for which you can purchase it immediately, without worrying about being outbid. If it has that, and if it’s a price you’re okay with, use that and you’re done. No muss, no fuss. What exactly did the lady say when you called?

I will indeed say hi to the welbys from everyone. The funny thing is that though we’ve got a meeting location worked out, neither of us has any specific plans regarding how we’re going to find each other in front of here, which will be crowded. I am thinking about wearing my new frilly goth dress and black and white striped knee-highs, and carrying a sign that says The Straight Dope, or Dopers Welcome, or something. I have no idea what either of them look like. I thought looking odd might be the first step. I think I’ll stand around looking for a confused couple, but that could be anyone. There will be a lot of tourists.

Any suggestions? Also I should make a shopping list. Duck fat, fresh herbs, Montreal bagels, lamb, new potatoes, don’t need parmesan right now, really old nice cheddar… plus we’ll be eating every single unhealthy thing I can think of. welby may feel kind of sick. I don’t think he’s ever had poutine, butter tarts, nanaimo bars (chocolate coconut custard squares), baklava, back bacon, and cheesecake in the space of a couple of hours before.

How about a sign that says “I’m Lissla.” Or maybe, “welby, is that you?”
Or “MMP-Fest starts here.” I seem to be full of ideas this morning.

Hopefully that will last as I’ll need some today.

Happy Thursday everyone!

GT

i slept not at all - now i have to go to work waaaaaahhhhh

i have come orealize that fo the most part, this is the only thread I post in any more

Good morning all!

Like anyrose, I don’t have a lot else to contribute this morning. But I am off to a meeting at IHOP, so maybe some coffee and Silver Dollars will change my mood?
