The Celebrity Death Pool 2009

Good call.

Budd Schulberg, who won an Academy Award for his On the Waterfront screenplay, has died at the age of 95. Schulberg was also acclaimed for his novel What Makes Sammy Run?, an account of the rise of a hustler from newspaper copy boy to Hollywood producer.

From the “Well that blows” file: Breakfast Club / Ferris Bueller’s Day Off / Sixteen Candles Director John Hughes at 59.

John Hughes, the director of such teen-oriented films as The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, has passed away at the age of 59. Hughes suffered a heart attack while visiting family in New York City.

Damn. :frowning:

Willy DeVille, founder of punk group Mink DeVille, dead at 58 of pancreatic cancer.

Eunice Kennedy Shriverin critical but stable condition

Oooh, I have her! I might finally score!

Me too!!!

I mean… um, that’s awful…

Dag nab it! I dropped Eunice Kennedy Shriver to my alternates this year and now … well, I’m sorry but it does look like she’s on her way out. :frowning: My condolences to the family and friends.

CNN is reporting that Ms. Kennedy has died.

And once again, no points for me. Jeez.

Does it speak poorly of us that our feelings over the death of notable people are restricted to how many points they are worth?

[Shrug] Nah.

Six people had her, three of them scoring their first points this year.

Twelve points for me.

Damn it… I am actually not that happy about scoring my first points EVER in this damned game (3 years I’ve been in, I think… maybe 4?). I thought that having people on my list made them fucking immortal- now I’m scared that some righteous undead folks on my list might be next… :frowning:

Twelve for me, too.

Perhaps counting my chickens before they are hatched. Great Trail Robber Ronnie Biggs was given compassionate release from prison last week. But according to the Daily Mail :dubious: he has had a miraculous recovery since his release.

Well, if his recovery is reported by the Daily Mail, I had better start calculating everybody’s points.

I had him on my list in 2006 and 2007, after which I dropped him because of his surprising longevity.

Just flush him already!

Heard on the radio, guitar legend Les Paul dead at 94.

I’ll come back with a print cite.

ETA: Critter beat me to the cite, but here’s mine.

Les Paul has strummed his last chord :frowning:

VunderBob beat me to it, but at least there’s the cite…
