O is at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and it is hands down the best show I have ever seen. I spent half my life in theater, and it was technically and artistically astounding.
I agree with the OP; they’re good, but they’re not the greatest thing I’ve ever seen, either. I mean, they do all these cool things, but it’s just not all that entertaining. I can see how theater people would appreciate it more than the common man, though.
I’ve seen four Cirque du Soleil shows: Quidam in New York, and Alegria, Dralion, and Varekai in Philadelphia. Of the four, the best show, for me, was Quidam, not that the others were bad. Also, for three of the four I sprung for VIP tickets, so I had great seats and was able to mingle and take pictures with some of the performers before the show.
After Varekai, the last Cirque I attended, I knew I was done. Although the show was enjoyable, the edge-of-your-seat amazement I’d experienced previously simply wasn’t there.
