Cirque Du Soleil - Varekai

Last night my husband and I went to see Varekai for the first time. I have been wanting to see the Cirque for many, many years; however they had not made it close to the Dallas area.

I have seen a lot of their shows on cable, however; I found last night the TV does not do the performers justice. Of all their current shows Varekai has to be my favorite and it just so happened to stop over on the North American tour in Dallas. We were not disappointed last night. It was amazing to watch the performers.

Has anyone else seen Varekai or any of the other troupes?

Yes!

We saw Varekai in DC last month. That was the second show I’ve seen live. The first was Quidam. I was just as thrilled with Varekai as I was with Quidam. The videos really do not do the performances justice.

That’s for damn sure. I’d seen the Cirque on TV a handful of times and been unimpressed, but a guy gave us tix to Varekai as a present so we went. Fantastic. I still have no interest to see them on TV, but next time they come to town (or next time I go to Vegas), I’m there.

I saw Varekai when they were in San Diego - it’s probably been almost 6 months by now? That was my second live performance of Cirque, and I liked it much better.

The first Cirque show I saw was back in the late 1980’s, back when they were more “circus-like” - it’s almost like performance art now. Sure, there’s tumbling and acrobatics, but it’s just so much more conceptual and storylike now than separate little acts like a traditional “ring circus”.

I saw Varekai twice a couple of years ago, in Montreal and then in Toronto and it was unbelievably amazing. I saw Alegria in Toronto this summer, it was still amazing, but not quite as amazing as Varekai.

On August 10th of next year, I will see the as of yet unnamed new Cirque show…

I have tickets to see Zumanity in January.

I saw Quidam in Santa Monica in the mid-1990s, and was hooked. I’ve seen Dralion, Saltimbanco, La Nouba, Mystere, Allegria, and Varekai.

Thus far, I think Quidam has been the strongest show, closely followed by Varekai.

We saw Dralion in Baltimore last year. We were blown away. The tv shows absolutely do not do it justice.

What is the show called which takes place in water mostly?
I think it is the one in Vegas.
Has anybody seen that one yet?
It sounded pretty good.
If it is any good, I might have to go to Vegas. (Always wanted to go there anyway)

I’ve seen a few traveling shows live starting with Saltimbanco, and none were able to re-capture the magic of being dropped into the Cirque experience without any previous knowledge of them. I saw Varekai not long ago and it did the trick and is now my favorite.

The water-based show is called ‘O’. Just like that, a big capital letter ‘O’. Cirque currently have more than one show running in Vegas, by the way. Go to vegas.com for more info.

All the Cirque shows are fabulous. The ones in Vegas are among the more expensive shows on offer, but I’d say worth every cent. And yes, go to Vegas! It’s a great place, and you’ll have a wonderful time.
