I really felt I should post a heads-up about this, in case anyone hasn’t seen it or perhaps not even heard of it. It’s a miniseries based on Comey’s book. I saw it last night and I highly recommend it. Its rating on IMDB seems to have been seriously downvoted by Trumpists, but it’s really well done.
I debated whether to post this here or in CS, but CS is not typically political and my point is that IMHO this is very politically and emotionally powerful. Somehow it affected me much more than Comey’s book (A Higher Loyalty) on which it’s based. It’s like the book was rather understated, while this takes the gloves off regarding what we’re really dealing with here, while remaining (AFAICT) wholly factual. Watching this was the first time I really started to feel that what we’re facing here is not merely the worst and most destructive president in history, but a real-life dystopia. Brendan Gleeson’s portrayal of Trump, while slightly but rather brilliantly exaggerated in the mannerisms, was genuinely and appropriately scary.
Mods, please feel free to move to CS if you think it appropriate.
I’ve seen ads for this, and the cast looks awesome.
And if this had been made 10 years from now, with Trump just a bad memory, I’d almost certainly watch it. But right now, when we’re still in the middle of the shit Trump is causing? Nope. I get that just watching the news, don’t need it in my movies too.
I thought Comey was played a little too sympathetic and that every decision he made was in the fight for truth, justice, and the American way. But the portrayal of Donald T. by Brendan Gleeson was downright frightening. He didn’t look that authentic and he spoke a bit too much like Vito Corleone, but damned he had the facial expression and mannerisms down. Watching him eat that bowl of ice cream was exactly like I think Donnie does it and scared the hell out of me.
