The computer beeps when I type

I think that pretty much sums it up.

I can be in DOS or Windows, and the damn thing keeps beeping when I type.

I can trigger it by SIMPLY TYPING IN CAPS QUICKLY. It seems like I fill up the keystroke buffer, because it’ll get up to SIMPLY TYPIN<beep>G IN CA<beep>PS<beep><beep>.

It doesn’t seem to beep when I use multi-keystroke combinations though (ie, I’m playing DOOM and I’ll be holding /, the up arrow, ctrl, shift, and I’m trying to hit the space bar). But granted two of those are function keys.

Any thoughts?

Hook up a different keyboard to it, and see if it still beeps. Keyboards are cheap. If the new keyboard doesn’t beep, your problem is solved.

Mine does that when it gets too hot. But I changed it so the screen flashes instead of beeps. Its just a way of slowing down things so the computer can get cool.

There may be a stuck key or two somewhere on the keyboard. The key could be jammed, broken, or it could be very dirty underneath. I mean, so dirty that contact between the key and the plastic thing is jammed closed. Press all the keys and make sure they all depress without effort. Or, you can just replace the keyboard.

It has nothing to do with the keyboard.
Go (in W9x/Me) to Start>Programs>Accessories>Accessibility and disable “keyboard sounds”.
