The Contents Of My Pantry... The MMP

Whew - 26 hunks of clay all ready for Saturday. I need to figure out what I’m going to do to contain my hair. It’s been growing out and I don’t know what to do with it. My sweetie suggested wire ties. Yeah, that’s classy. I’ll probably just get a couple of combs or barrettes. Or duct tape. Something.

I really should do my stretches tonight, too. I don’t feel like it tho. Maybe I’ll just do half of them.

It’s so difficult to be me. Oh woe…

<looks around for love offerings of chocolate. finds none. sighs. weeps.>

Here you go, FCM. Dark chocolate M&Ms. We have peanut and white chocolate, too, if you prefer. It’ll take just a sec to get them out of the vending machine.

I would offer you a dark chocolate Dove ice cream bar, but apparently, plugging in the freezer and wiping it down is all that is required after it having been off for **three ** days. Eeeewwwwwww! We used to have a good vending machine company, the same one for years, he even sent us Christmas cards and postcards when he was on vacation, and then in the name of standardization, they got a national contract, when that didn’t work, they went regional. Bring back Tiger Vending! He was here twice a week and rotated his stock, so we didn’t have to eat the same thing every day. 3 day old melted ice cream, anyone? How about defrosted steak and cheese burritos? Blech.

Ow! I burned myself again. I touched my arm to the store while broiling some pig. I may have to stop cooking before I immolate my self.

Somehow I don’t think I could get away with it.

Sounds like LiLi, meeks and I are on the same sleepy-in-the-morning schedule. It was really hard to get up early this morning, even though I spent lots of yesterday asleep on the couch. Hopefully I can get back to a reasonable schedule tonight.

I went and posted in your thread, Ellen, although I’m not sure I really added to it.

All my appendages are crossed for you swampy. Well, except for my fingers while I’m typing, cuz typing with crossed fingers is more than I can manage right now. I dunno about the billing changes, though. Billing in the finance department sounds awfully logical. Not sure they should let that happen.

Thanks for the spare pronouns Spats. I’m using them sparingly because I want to make sure there are enough for everyone.

Ginger soy pork loin sounds good to me, taxi. Can I come over for dinner?

Oh…and congrats on the actual work, Drae! We’ll expect regular updates, of course.

After spending a week watching intense stuff (all three seasons of MI-5), I’m now stuck on romantic comedies. Watched How to lose a guy in 10 days last night and am watching Raising Helen now.

Guess I need to do something tonight, just don’t want to think about what…

So, maybe I’ll just laze around on the couch, watch the movie and surf a bit. Laptops and wireless are wonderful.

Hi to everyone I missed…

GT

Tonight I made beans for dinner. The bean project started last night, with the soaking of the beans, and the searching for a bean-appropriate meat item to cook in them. We have no ham and the only sausage we had was hot links, which I do not think would be that great in beans. I consulted with the mother, and she said use bacon. So I did. And lo, the beans were most excellent, and consumed rapidly.

Mmmmm, sounds yummy.

Beans, beans, the musical fruit…

I’ve heard of them. I found a recipe for them when I first found my hardtack recipe. I’ve been meaning to get around to making them, but, eh, not yet.

Speaking of slightly obscure foods, Welsh cakes? Not quite a pancake, not quite a cookie.

A thorough overnight soaking seems to remove the tunes from them, though.

right now I am the recipient of kitty-love (purr-nuzzle-nuzzle-purr) such a terrific thing to come home to
my quartet did okay - really well if you factor in that we really only had one real rehearsal, plus about 10 minutes tonight - and one gal was exceptionally nervous - but we did it, its done, we never have to do it again - but I really want to be in a quartet - I just have to find 3 others who want the same thing out of their quartet experience as I do - I want to perform in shows and maybe, one day, compete. The others tonight, not so much.

Mmm, baked beans. Any leftovers?

Work was boring but there was stuff to do, and Driving Husband and I have come to some decisions about type (either very plain solitaire in white gold, sapphire with tiny diamonds, or an antique-y kind of delicate ring like mine) and price (not more than twelve hundred, tops). We kept being urged towards a $11,000 ring. Yeah, right.

We saw some very pretty ones, and a lot of huge, ugly, expensive ones. Who wears enormous square-cut diamonds? Maybe they look good on very wealthy dowagers in fur coats, but I can’t think of anyone else that they suit.

We’ll continue Saturday or next week.

   Was that Rue!? Hello, hello! We miss you!

So after going to two stores, I finally found the TI83 Plus Graphing calculator. Sheesh! $100.00! As it turns out, my son now needs one as well. I thought he already had one, but what he has is the Scientific calculator. Fortunately, in my son’s case, the teacher has 25 of them in the classroom, so he can just use one of those while in class, then borrow his sister’s if he needs to do homework.

I’m sure I’ll pick one up for him next month or something.

Additionally, my daughter informed me that in spring I’ll have to pay $160.00 for her to take both her AP Psychology exam and her AP English exam. If she doesn’t take the exams, she doesn’t get credit on her transcripts.  What the hell do low income people do in cases like this. That just seems ridiculous. We’ll still need to shell out for her PSAT whenever that is, plus her SAT next year. I know, I know, many of you have already been through this, but PUBLIC school is just damn expensive nowadays.

Tonight’s dinner was cheesy scalloped taters and some kind rib thingies. It was good.

I really hope we don’t have any plans this weekend. It would be nice just to stay home and get things done around the house.

In other exciting news, I’ve finished three of the projects the boss asked to complete and sent him the results. I have yet to hear an acknowledgement, question, or anything. I don’t expect a pat on the shoulder, but at least an acknowledgement would be nice. I’d like to know if he’s happy with the products, or if there is something additional he’s looking for. Geeze…just something.

I’ve got two projects left, but more are coming.

**FCM, ** I wanted to wish you luck with the Craft Fair. Sell lots of your obje d’ arte. I’m too lazy too look up the proper spelling, but you get my drift. By the way, today I had Godiva extra dark 80 something percent cacoa butter chocolate. I slipped some through the drive for you. Didn’t you get it?

No, they’re all gone. Sigh.

I vote for the sapphire, LiLi. But then I’m not a big diamond fan, and sapphire is my birthstone.

Li-li emeralds are my favorite. They also happen to be my birthstone. Sapphires are pretty too. I colored stones are more unique than the usual diamond thing-a-ma-job. That just my ever so humble opinion, though.

Sapphires and emeralds are purty. A friend of mine inherited a gorgeous pear-shaped emerald, small, flawless and a stunning shade of green. People would walk up to her on the street and offer outrageous amounts of money for it. I see so many ginormous diamonds around here that a simply set sapphire or emerald would be refreshing. I have only seen one enormous diamond that I like, and it was on a partner’s finger. It looked like living fire and you could see it flash across a hotel ballroom. If you can’t afford a diamond of that clarity and color, what’s the point? Why not get something you like? That was a $25,000 diamond, and just under 2 carats, for those of you living vicariously. Yes, I got to try it on when I had to ship it back to the jeweler for engraving. Rubies are nice, too, the deep red ones. My birthstone is pearl, and those really aren’t sturdy enough for a ring worn daily. They make pretty necklaces, though.

I have a friend whose dad, when he got out of Europe just ahead of the Nazis, smuggled out two flawless 2-carat diamonds in his shoe. He gave one to each of his two kids; my friend had hers set as her engagement ring. It’s a stunning stone, but she did the smart thing, had it put in a setting to not draw a lot of attention to it – walking around with a 25K+ stone is begging for trouble, if you ask me.

Me, I don’t like stones that stick up – I snag them on stuff constantly. So PapaT found me a lovely emerald set flat in a wide gold ring with a lovely design in the gold as well. I just love it; it’s very nontraditional but just gorgeous, IMO. He’s also bought me some gorgeous turquoise and jade, the bright emerald jade that’s more popular in Asia. He has excellent taste in nice jewelry for me.

But anyway, I vote for the sapphire, too. Or some other colored stone – why fall in line with the herd?

I think I broke my toe.

We recently rearranged the furniture and since the sofa is in a position we’re not used to, Mom has been leaving the over-the-sink light on in the kitchen, which gives enough light out to the living room so you won’t walk into the sofa.

Like I did.

Tellie - that’s no fun - my pinky toe, the one I stubbed so hard the nail popped mostly off, still hurts a little.

Li-li - I think I missed something - why is Q-daughter ring shopping? has she been betrothed? As for gems, I like sapphires, especially the darker ones. It’s my birthstone and also blue is my favorite color. A few years ago, after I got tired of waiting for a guy I liked well enough to stick with long enough for him to buy me jewelry, I bought myself a sapphire and diamond ring in white gold. It’s not as ostentatious as it sounds, it’s quite delicate. The sapphire is a cobuchon of about .7 carats, surrounded in 2 half swirls by tiny brilliant cut diamonds - total gem wt is 1.25 c

Morning! Another exciting day at work, then I get to do laundry.

Hi Rue

Tel, I did that once. What was really bad was that the chair I kicked had been in the same spot for two years. :smack:

Rosie, LiLi’s quasi-daughter is marring one of her husbands. Attack or driving.

Happy Friday, all!!

My engagement ring was an opal. Not that we were really engaged long enough to worry about a ring. I like it but I quit wearing it because it sits high and snags on stuff, plus it’s rather delicate. I don’t wear my wedding ring any longer either - stoopit swollen knuckle. I’ve mentioned to **FCD ** a couple of times that I’d like to get a plain gold band just to have something to wear. But jewelry shopping isn’t very high on our to-do list. And it’s not like I’ve got guys hitting on me because I’m not wearing a ring…

Taters, the closer they get to graduation, the more you’ll get nickeled-and-dimed for stuff they gotta have. I feel for low income folks and families with bunches of kids. I only had one to deal with, and I felt like we needed a second mortgage to keep up with $10-for-this-and-$27.42-for-that-and-the-optional-but-highly-desirable-crap… blah blah blah. I’ll give my kid props, tho - she paid for her own optional crap while we picked up the tab for the academic stuff.

For the record, I do not want to be at work. Just in case anyone asks you…
