The Contents Of My Pantry... The MMP

Thanks, Lissla! After years of small pantries or deep pantries or no pantries, I knew what I wanted, and when we did our kitchen design, I had just the place to put it! The only problem I’ve found is that with the top shelf full, as it is now, the light isn’t too effective. Other than that, it’s great.

I just finished packing up all of my pots - 4 boxes full. Now I’m going to use some plain white paper to wrap empty boxes that will be used to display said pots. I figure for the show, I’ll let **FCD ** set up the display - he’s got a better eye for that sort of thing than I do. And I’ll unwrap everything and smooth out the tissue for reuse. Because that’s the ecologically smart thing to do. And because I’m frugal.

I need to clean and pack my tools, and get the wheel and stuff ready to go. We’ll load the car Friday night, and we can check it at the festival at 7 on Saturday. It’s not supposed to start till 10, so we’ll have time to set up without rushing… theoretically…

And lemme go ahead and volunteer to do next week’s MMP, since I’ll obviously have stuff to share, and pics, too, I hope!

Back to work with me.

I miss, miss, miss my mother’s pantry. When I was a kid, we lived in a huge house (there were 7 people total) that we had built. In the kitchen was a huge walk in pantry-3 walls of shelves, well lit, everything at a glance. Nice.

My kitchen has no pantry, but I can tell you (roughly) what is in my two cabinets that serve as a pantry, as well as what is down in the basement, on shelves I put together myself.

Kitchen:
white rice
brown rice
pasta of various sorts
mac n’ cheese (for kids)
various and sundry soups
jar of salted peanuts (roasted)
I keep peanut butter in the fridge
Nuttella
microwave popcorn (light)
corn oil
olive oil
spice racks
coffee
coffee filters
rice a roni-shut up, I love the stuff
pizza sauce
cocoa
spray on oil
walnuts
marshmallows
dried bread crumbs
potatoes
pasta sauce
bkfst cereal
In the Basement:

surplus flour
surplus sugar
surplus brown sugar
surplus vanilla (baking season is coming!)
choc chips
bkfst cereal-extra (got tired of typing surplus)
pop
water bottle for school
school lunch snacks
paper goods
extra cleaning supplies
canned goods-not veggies, hate canned veggies
surplus pasta
tuna in cans
Ramen noodles
pasta sauce
one stick of Velveeta-?
pop tarts
And I don’t know what all else. This is from memory.

In other breaking news: #2 has lost his right front tooth! Strategies are already in place for acquiring funds from dentition sprite aka tooth fairy.

Strategies? Like losing an extra tooth on the same day? Hope not.

Break from cleaning. Kitchen torn apart.

Nice pantry, FCM!

Pronouns missing again. Suspect dogbutler.

Back later.

GT

Strategies ala ziploc baggie vs 35 mm film container to put said tooth.

Speculation as to amount is strangely missing.

I 'spect dogbutler as well.

Or possession by Western Union person!

Gads. Which cabinet? Let’s see what’s in this one…

canned:
mushrooms
diced green chilis
whole green chilis
corn, both niblet and creamed
green beans
chili con carne, sans beans, Wolf and Denison brands
pickled beets
turnip greens
Spam
tomato sauce
tomato paste
tomatoes, stewed
tomatoes, crushed
tomatoes, whole
Ro-tel tomatoes and peppers, diced
pineapple, both crush and rings
beans, baked and porked
olives, whole and sliced
bottle of French dressing
bottle of chipotle finishing sauce

That’s just the bottom shelf. The upper one has syrup, olive oil, both regular and light, canola oil, container of rice, container of pancake mix, and a container of grits.

There are three other cabinets with food in them. I’m too lazy to look, but they are filled with pasta, sauces, staples and spices.

This post has been depronouned by the Depronouner!

I took Maggie to the dogpark, she had a Lab drool on her head. I also got to see a four pound Chihuahua pick a fight with a 170lbs Great Dane. I wen shopping ad picked up beer and dinner(hamburgers, salad, fried **N.O.T.**s) I think I’ll watch a little more of Taken, then dinner and Dope.

Quiet, dull day. Just back from grocery/pharmacy/dollar store run. Got a bag of** N.O.T.** on sale, and some baby portobellos, and some wrapping tissue, and my BP meds. Took Bernie for a walk. Dishes are washed. I need to go downstairs to sort the laundry and toss in a load.

Yep, boring day. Thus ends my long weekend. <sigh>

Our pantry contains whatever I bought as Costco last time. Our emergency kit is in the utility shed with two weeks worth of food, clothing, bedding and other essentials for two weeks of “camping.”
There are 6 gallons of water in the freezer, along with whatever freezables I bought at Costco last.
I read much of the weekend. I’m reading two books, neither of which is that good. One is * The Traveler* the other isn’t in front of me, but I think it’s called Mr Norris and Johnathan Strange but I’m not sure.

Lots of stuff in lots of pantries. Us cool kids will not go hungry for sure. I’ve been at the pool most of the day. Right now I’m all showered and clean. I had a bit too much sun and I can feel it. I’m wearing a very loose tank top right now but I’m thinkin’ Ima off the shirt cause, while I’m not burnt to a crisp, there’s definitely some heat goin’ on. So I’m a little owie.

doggy we had salad, burgers and fried N.O.T. for lunch today. I’m thinkin’ either a pbj or a grilled cheese sammich for supper. ACBG left to go do some laundry and stuff. Tomorrow is back to work. Le Sigh.

rigs out of curiousity how much does the tooth fairy pay out per tooth these days. Back in the day it was a quarter but what with inflation, the rising price of tooth enamel and such I’m sure it’s much more now.

Have you ever tried a grilled peanut butter sammich? It’s my sweetie’s favorite - especially with a thick slathering of pb. I like it too - not as much as grilled cheese, but still, it’s good. Give it a try!

Tonight’s dinner is leftover chicken, boiled N.O.T. and broccoli. We need brownies, too, but like a dummy, I neglected to get any when I stopped at the grocery store. Bummer.

Oh I like grilled pb sammiches a lot! I think ima have a grilled cheese cause I got a hankerin’ for a grilled cheese and dill pickle chips sammich. They’re nummy!

Happy non-laboring Day!

The Bus pantry includes: Rubbermaid containers of white rice, briwn rice, tater (N.O.T.) chips, Fritos, tortilla chips and sometimes pretzels; croutons, pancake mix, assorted cookies, 2 cans of chili beans, one can of evaporated milk, one BEEEG can of pumpkin, 2 cans of green beans, one can of corn, parmesan cheese, Wife’s instand oatmeal, microwave popcorn, paper towels, napkins, two 2-liter bottles of Diet Sprite, bottles of unopened salad dressing, and half a box of Triscuits.

I feel cheated out of m 3-day weekend. I worked Saturday and part of Sunday. I got to do some outdoor type house work before dinner, so that was all well and good, but now it’s going to be the workweek again. Bleh.

The Kid came home for the weekend. “came home” being kind of relative, as she’s only 35 minutes away at school. We sent her off with a big dinner, some giant ribeyes, baked N.O.T., salad and grilled 'shrooms.

I really could stand to help the Wife finish housecleaning, but I’m too pooped. She’s actually napping, so my motivation to “help” is sliding down the chute anyway. She’s on a kick to clean the place for the impending Visit From My Mom.

She flies in from Tucson for a week this Wednesday. So I get to keep sane during the first full week of school and keep my mom entertained for a full week. We’ll see how that goes.

Seems that is NOT the way to stay sane to me…
I am posting here in some(emotional) distress. I’ve rewritten this post about 5 times. Suffice it to say that just when you think that marital things are better, they aren’t. Perhaps I have a chip on my shoulder. I don’t know–I am so tired of overthinking this crap. I will just keep on going, I suppose.

If I have done the math correctly,(which is doubtful), I have 72 shifts left of hell.* One of them is tomorrow.

*my pts aren’t hell. It’s the lack of respect and other poor treatment by admin that I deplore.

I forgot.

Swampus: around these here parts (meaning this house), the Tooth Fairy gives either 50 cents or $1, depending on the tooth. Molars are $1. He lost one of his front teeth–and the other one is hanging there, so his tooth looks sideways and kinda gross, actually–so he’ll get 1/2 dollar.

What?

I haven’t MMP’d for a long time–did anyone miss me? I didn’t have internet access at home for a while, so I’ve been mostly lurking.

Pantries are fun! I like to look at other people’s pantries (gotta make sure that “r” is in there!). I’m so nosy.

What’s in my pantry…
Light and dark brown sugar, superfine sugar, confectioners sugar, sugar
Rice, lentils, beans, pasta
A few boxes of macaroni and cheese
Lots of different kinds of tea (green tea, black tea, big bags of tea for iced tea, jasmine tea) and hot chocolate mix
Honey, molasses, corn syrup
The usual spices, vanilla and a few other extracts
Canned veggies (mostly tomato-type things, maybe a little corn for corn fritters)
Spaghetti sauce
Canned pumpkin
A few cans of soup (cream of tomato, for when I’m in the mood for grilled cheese)
Cake mix, pudding mix, brownie mix, canned frosting (for emergencies only), a few other dessert random mixes
White flour, bread flour, cake flour, whole wheat flour, corn meal, one jar of some kind of bran (wheat bran? oat bran? who can tell?)
Yeast, baking powder, baking soda
Crisco, olive oil, canola oil, several kinds of vinegar
Baking chocolate, cocoa powder (Hershey’s and dutch-processed), chocolate chips
Bird’s custard mix
Some Indian mixes and jars of sauce (butter chicken, Tikka Masala)
A few boxes of noodles
Condensed milk, coconut milk, coconut, cream of coconut
Risotto mix (it’s really not bad)
Food coloring (just because it’s fun)

I have a small kitchen and not much room to store stuff, so it’s pretty basic. I think I’ll make coconut macaroons tomorrow–I have all the stuff, but it’s too late for baking tonight, and I need to put away some laundry.

I rock! Unlike the last time I fried something, I made my [del]french[/del] freedom fried **N.O.T.**s with nary a splatter.

MBG, I was a Pigpen style slob as a child, so if Mom visited and could see my floor, she would sing for joy. Or slug me for not doing it at her house.

{{{rigs}}} Hang in there! I’m sorry your admins suck.

Not Our Taters” lest someone thinkall the potato dishes we ate were really signs that we’re cannibals
My quartet actually rehearsed today - and considering one member has an intense fear of ‘soloing’ (when you think about, a quartet is really just 4 soloist who sound good together) we did pretty good - the “performance” is this Thursday. We’re as ready as we’ll ever be. And the director has set aside 20 minutes for each quartet to practice after we all warm up. I’m going to record it - if it sounds any good, I’ll post a link.

:dubious:

How can that be? Y’all sing together. Her voice is not distinguishable (by me at least) from the other 3–it all blends together to make a harmonic presence, no?
Tell her that if she continues with this, y’all be Pips and she’s Gladys.

off to bed soon. Night, all. See ya Wednesday (oh-no you wont’! I’ll be at the library!).

OH MAN. I’m so moved in it hurts. My apartment is unabashedly, unflinchingly awesome. I got the biggest room of the four here, the kitchen is clean and includes a dishwasher, there’s lots of space in the living room, my apartment-mate brought a tv and a gamecube, and this is so much better than a dorm room. Whooo!

Just to set the record straight - Hanover, NH is a small town. The “business district” is two blocks on one street. That’s the center of town. No, wait. The school is the town. Yeah. It’s small.

Tomorrow I will run errands. Get an ID card, open a bank account, drop by the physics dept. That sort of thing. Should be fun.

The contents of my pantry? A lot of microwaveable or boilable meals.

No pun today. With all the fuss and kerfluffle of the double move, I didn’t have a chance to get to it. Two tomorrow.

Rigs, my partner in grad school! Hang in there! I know you can make it through those 72 shi(f)ts.
