The Contents Of My Pantry... The MMP

Howdy! I’ve had a wonderful 4 day weekend!

Today, I got a full detail for my car for the bargain price of $18.99, including tax and tip. How did I do that? Well, it was a busy day at the Delta Queen car wash, and my car slid off of the rollers and got bumped by a Lexus’s license plate holder. So my rear bumper got a boo-boo. The manager’s first offer was to send my car in to the shop get the bumper replaced. I looked at him like he was nuts. You may recall that I drive a 97 Pontiac POS. Anyway, the other option was to have the paint touched up and a complete detailing done on my car. I chose option #2. Really, when he showed it to me, my initial response was pretty much “Oh, well.” The manager was very relieved that it didn’t happen to either of the Lexuses/Lexi/Lexipodes? that were in front of and behind my car on the rollers **and ** that I didn’t scream and pitch a fit. I’ve been accused of being too nice, but I really don’t think I could have gotten a better deal if I **had ** pitched a fit. I’ve never had a full detailing done, so I guess that the mud that splashed on the ceiling from when I was stuck in the mud in the flood of 98 will finally be gone. Ooh, and the blush stick, or was it lipstick? that melted on the back seat, along with the tahini sauce stains all over the front seat will be gone too. Cool! Once the detailing’s done, I think I’ll put covers on the front seats and replace the very worn floor mats. And here I thought my big car news was going to be that I replaced the wiper blades!

My pantry contains, on the food side:
cans of assorted beans
canned corn, both creamed and not
cans of diced tomatoes
can of sliced beets
jar of Carribean soup
dried shitaake mushrooms
bottle of rum
assorted vinegars, including a luscious fig balsalmic
corn meal
rolled oats
pearl barley
dried lentil
every spice you can think of
sugar: light brown, dark brown, confectioners and baking
baking soda
baking powder
caramel and strawberry ice cream syrups
vanilla powder
1 pint vanilla extract
1 pint orange extract
mint, almond and anise extracts
food coloring
sprinkles for Xmas and Valentines day
sweetened condensed milk
grenadine syrup
several gallons of bottled water
flour sifter
petit fours cups
various sized stock pots

On the non-food side:
vacuum cleaner
vacuum cleaner bags and accessories
assorted Swiffer items
cat grooming items: brushes, shampoo wipes, flea powder, etc
mops - just for swampy: string with a wooden handle and sponge with a plastic handle
Scotchguard and WD-40
wooden broom
windshield wiper fluid
cat leash that belonged to my flame point Siamese, Tanyse (sorry, no pictures, but she was a beautiful and very intelligent cat who could do all sorts of tricks on command, more dog-like than any other cat I’ve ever known) [PSA] We think she got into the neighbor’s un-embittered anti-freeze. She died within minutes. Never leave un-embittered anti-freeze where animals and children can reach it. Apparently, it tastes delicious.[/PSA] This is also why my cats are now indoor only.

I must do laundry sometime in the next 14 hours, or I will be going to work nekkid. I think I’d rather go to work nekkid. My co-workers are probably opposed to that option, though.

Dammit! I was almost done with my list! I hit the wrong button and lost my post. Suffice it to say that I have enough stuff in my pantry to feed a small nation.

Tonight I made a recipe I saw on the Food Network. Cajun Chicken Alfredo. Blackened chicken, sundried tomatoes and garlic in a white wine cream sauce. Awesome! And carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for dessert.

OK-one more post and I really am going to bed!

I just figured it out–it’s 77 shifts. :frowning:

spats --yay for you! I am so proud of you! Have you read any Bill Bryson? He lives in Hanover and writes humorous stuff about all manner of things. He’s great.

I adore carrot cake with proper cream cheese frosting - some bakeries just throw butter cream on their carrot cakes - BUT I have a new favorite - for coworker’s birthday Friday, we had Napoleon Cake - with proper filo dough layers and proper pastry cream, not vanilla pudding, inside - covered in whipped cream frosting, with toasted filo crumbs on the outside - I intend to tell the birthday club person to get that for my b-day at the end of the month

Bill Bryson is from Hanover, really?

He’s awesome, one of my favorites.

That’s all I got, just that.

Never heard of him. I’m sure the local bookstores will have his stuff. I’ll keep an eye out when I go perusing later.

I just re-read Bryson’s A Walk In The Woods.
A very funny book. I highly recommend it.

I have absolutely no idea what’s in my pantry (which is actually a cupboard), because I neither grocery shop nor cook. I think there are a few boxes of cereal, some noodle mixes, and splenda. And pop (is, too!).

We’re back, btw. A highly bowdlerized posting of the less sordid events is promised.

There’s too much junk in our pantry for me to look. So I won’t.

Shreveport, **gt, ** is one of the bigger towns in the state, and I believe it contains at least one Doper–**whiterabbit, ** if my magnificent brain fails me not. I don’t know a lot about it as I’ve only been there to shop and go to the airport, though. But like I said, I have some connections there so when I am able, I will see what I can do.

I have lately been thinking of forgiveness. I don’t exactly hold grudges, but I have what you might call a long memory. My memory for kindnesses, however, is just as long as my memory for offenses. I know grudges or similar aren’t the best things to keep in the world, so no one needs to remind me.

MagicEyes! Hi! Of course we’ve missed you. You’ve been mentioned several times when we’ve talked about people we haven’t seen lately. How are things going?

Any specific timing on the move to Shreveport, Tel? Or is it just a new idea you’re trying out?

Reading everyone else’s pantry contents reminded me that, although I have what I think of as a pantry (seven shelves in the corner of the kitchen), I actually have several other cabinets that contain food (somehow, these are not the pantry; why is that?). There are spices, herbs and flavorings in part of one cabinet; pasta, rice and crackers in another cabinet; tea, coffee, nuts, dried fruit, peanut butter and various meds/vitamins in yet another cabinet. I’m probably missing something, but I can’t remember what…

Faraway Best Friend and family are here! Yay! The restaurant where we wanted to have dinner was closed tonight. I think they were the only restaurant in town closed for Labor Day. So we went to Don Pablo’s instead, which was fun, but not really what I wanted.

We’ve done our usual talk and talk and talk and talk and talk. We’ll be doing that for the next two days or so. It’s fun to see the kids - they’re so big! - and to get to talk to her and her husband. We’re going to the movies tomorrow (Pirates of the Carribean 2, which I’ve already seen, but which they really want to see in English) and to a park and probably shopping; dunno what else.

It’s way past my bedtime - again. And now I’m actually getting sleepy. It’s a miracle!

It’s just an idea right now. I’m a little reluctant to make plans after what happened the last time, but ideas tend to bubble up in my head unbidden. I still have a lot of stuff to do before I can move there anyway.

true - but she’s the only one singing her part - and altho she’s singing it correctly, she’s afraid, because she’s never sang without several others around her singing the same part as her

“Light” olive oil? By color or by supposedly-less-fatty? What do the labels say, so I can try and match them to the kinds of oil I know?

Yesterday I got a call from the furniture store. My closet has arrived, yay! I must go today pay the remainder of the bill and then they’ll deliver it. It has to be late in the afternoon or on friday afternoon, I hope it can be done this week.

Once I have that in, I’ll be missing only one piece of furniture for the living room.

Nava -that tickled me because here, closets are built in features (and what do you call that?)–so I pictured part of a building being delivered.
OK-it struck me as funny at the time. Your closet=our wardrobe.

Off to work, after attempting to use an index for a paper. I wanted Norton Juster, I ended up in Norton Kansas. I hate online library searches.

Hi all. I have been very busy with work and pregnancy this last week, so very little time left over for MMP/Dope ( :frowning: ). Today is the first day when I have felt like I have time to draw breath!

So my boss mosied back into town last week after 6 weeks holiday. Turned up to the office on Wednesday and then had me working all day Saturday before the regular week started on Sunday, then jetted back out again on Sunday night, to go to some fancy 5-star ayurvedic treatment resort in Kovalam, Kerala in Southern India! Nice life if you can get it!

Anyhoo, my pantry is a mess and I refuse to speak of it, other than in hushed tones, for fear some of the stuff in the back wakes up and comes looking for me!

I had my first ultrasound this morning - saw the amorphous inch-long blob on the screen and heard its frantic little heartbeat (180bpm!). I have a pic (in .TIFF format) but Webshots won’t recognise the file format to upload it. Can anyone help - I would love to show you all sugarbaby’s first pic!

I want all the sordid events. In detail.

Dots how jake! Can’t wait to see sugarbaby’s first official portrait.

Hi everybody else. As soon as I figure out where I am (yes, I know it’s that place where I work but I don’t understand anything here at all!) I’ll post more.

I have a job interview later today for a second part-time job. My ‘real’ job is teaching preschool three days a week; this would be a paid EMT position.
As far as I know, it would be a few weekend shifts here and there - 12-hour shifts.
I’d like to get it, but it’s a long haul to the firehouse. The pay has to be good for it to be worth it.

Wish me luck!

If Dots breastfeeds, can we call her Sugartits?

I’m sore today. I went running yesterday morning, and did about 2 miles. The big event of the day was me declaring war on The Jungle. I spent 3 hours hacking vines, raking out crap, and pulling out metallic junk like old oil drums and roofing sheets. I burned 6 wheelbarrow loads of live and dead vegetation, and took a load of the metal stuff to the dump. Between the two, my thighs are screaming today.

All that work got me a 6’X15’ patch of bare ground. I have 6’X100’ to go. It’s going to be a long job…

Guess I blame my English teachers. Mind you, furniture wasn’t any kind of central topic. My English books had closets all over the house but mostly in kitchens (where they were also called ‘cupboards’). We were taught to translate “armario” as closet, “armario de la ropa” as wardrobe and “armario empotrado” as either built-in closet (if multi-purpose) or built-in wardrobe (as in, only for clothes). A “vestidor” is a walk-in closet. The “despensa” is a pantry. The ones I’m getting will contain books and linens and clothes and lots of other stuff, so according to the English I Was Taught In School, closets.

Never got a response as to what would “armario de la ropa blanca” be, but according to the floorplan of my Philadelphia apartment, it’s a linens closet. Aaaaaaah. The things you learn from renting!

OK; you’ve been hanging out here and you still don’t have IrfanView? Tch tch.

Glad to be of assistance
