Why am I awake? I even did the work stuff I was going to do yesterday. You’d think I’d be sleepy since I stayed up late every night this weekend, but no. Very awake.
Ah, yes, closets, always a fun concept to translate. Is it a closet that looks like it’s built in? (I’ve seen those in German homes. You think they’re built in, but they’re really fitted to the wall.) Or is it really a piece of furniture? If it’s furniture, but not being used as a wardrobe, it can also be called an armoire, although a lot of armoires these days are hidden computer desks. I guess it could be a cabinet too. Can’t think of any other words for closet-like things, but I’m sure someone will be along to add more. I would think an armario empotrado would just be a generic closet in the U.S., unless it had a special purpose.
Probably a good to bubble up all the ideas you can, Tel, and think out the concrete possibilities for each one. If nothing else, you’ll feel like you have more options. Best case: one of them will turn into a viable option that you’re actually happy with.
Hope the tiff -> jpg works out quickly so we can admire sugarbaby’s first pic.
Can I fall asleep again now? Please? I’m guessing the visiting crew will be asleep for another hour at least. ::Envies visiting crew::
Okay, I’m here. We got home Sunday night with nary a hitch (except we decided that next time we go somewhere, we’re not packing so much.
I’m still tired. Stupid jet lag. And Photobucket is arguing with me, so the pictures are still not up. Not all of them, anyway. Anybody know how to make Photobucket keep your pictures in the order you want them?
I’ve got a doctor appointment this morning to test for carpal tunnel, so that should be loads of fun. Then I get to go into work, hand out presents, and find out how badly my job was done in my absence. Then I get to move to IT, which means I may be computerless for a good part of the day.
Mika, are we still planning on Ren Faire this weekend?
Oh, and I don’t have a pantry. I have cupboards, most of which contain staples and/or cookies we bought upon moving in and never ate.
Back at work today. As I survey the vast expanse of my desk, it is mostly empty. Yay! That means that most of my stuff got approved last Friday, and we just might meet our deadline!
I wanna see the baby, too! Somebody tell Dots how to upload the pic.
Morning, everyone. rigs, I’m sorry about your marital blowup/problems. Vent all you like.
Dotty, we did kaleegy (caleegy?) in dance class last week. Thobes are fun.
MagicEyes, of course we missed you! Welcome back!
Today I have a doctor’s appointment, wherein I detail the five-year problems with my knee, and try to come up with a good rationale for getting sleeping pills. I have been sleeping okay for the last few weeks, with only two seriously bad days, but I really would like a limited supply of something so that I know at 3, if I haven’t fallen asleep, I can take something and not spend the next several days fried from stress and sleeping for 1 hour a night.
Does that sound reasonable?
Also I should do laundry and go to two dance classes. Whee!
Here he/she is! I’m already thinking of my bubby as a “she”, but I don’t want to pre-empt anything!
Lili, I’m glad you like khaleeji dance - my husband is a great dancer (being a Khaleeji, which means “Gulf” in Arabic, BTW) and he looks so sexy when he moves, but even though I took belly dance lessons for ages, hubby is a natural shaker, so he just laughs at me!
We keep rice stick in our pantry, and probably some other weird stuff. Like fish sauce and all of our other cooking sauces that don’t refrigerating. (Sorry to be on the last page’s topic still, I know how we like our ADD around these parts, but it’s still Monday to me. The traffic even sucked. And I had to vote.)
Happy Tuesday! Today I have to run errands. Welcome back Drae! I insist you tell us all about what you did and get those pictures up! Chop chop!
I’m excited because the new season of HOUSE starts tonight! YAY!
On a less happy note, I’m sure you’ve all heard the news about Steve Irwin. For some reason his death is really affecting me. Does anyone else have that? I don’t understand it, but there it is. Anyway, in honor of the adventuring animalist, I have two puns for you today.
Oh yeah, yesterday somebody asked me why I keep opened condiments in my pantry. I don’t remember who asked and since I’m lazy I ain’t lookin’ back. Anyways, I keep opened ketchup in my pantry cause it does not have to be refrigerated. It is technically a pickled substance and those don’t need to be refrigerated if one does not wish to. So that’s why.
I think there are lots of condiments that people typically keep in the fridge that would be fine outside. (My grandma used to keep all kinds of stuff out: jams, ketchup, can’t remember what else.) I can’t do it any more, though. Dunno why.
Shibb, mirin is rice wine. I have some of that too, now that you mention it. Oh, and voting tells you it’s really Tuesday. (In the U.S., at any rate.)
Missed telling rigs that I’m sorry to hear of the reappeared marital issues. We’re here to listen when you need to vent.
Good morning, everyone! I haven’t posted for awhile (you could say I listen more than I talk, I guess.) But I had to let you know that this weekend, I used Lissla recipe & made chocolate cinnamon rolls. WOW! They are incredible! I had a few logistical problems, so mine weren’t very shapely (more like big lumps), but they tasted great.
I wish I had read the MMP yesterday. As I look at my pantry now, I notice that I already have some things I went out and bought yesterday (like more flour for more cinnamon rolls!). I can see my pantry shelves (not an actual pantry – just space commandeered for this purpose) from where I sit at my computer. Top shelf is all pasta. Then comes pasta’s partners – tomatoes, cans of beans, that kind of thing, and other canned goods. Then baking stuff, peanut butter, & snacks. Last shelf is for my slow cooker, big tupperware containers, fondue pot, other kitchen related items.
Now that you know how close my pantry is to my computer, does anyone care to guess how I picked my user name? If Twinkie wasn’t available, you’d probably be calling me “Box o’ Pasta.”
I haven’t read the MMP yet because I wanted to write down what I had to say before I forgot it. Because my attention span is so short, y’know.
Before I forget this, rigs sorry to hear about your daughter’s car getting broken into.
So…I’m back. I mean, I still don’t have DSL at home, although it should be any day now. But at least I have Internet access at work. It hurts not to have it at home, though.
The apartment is probably 85 % put away. There’s a bunch of stuff that I will be taking to Goodwill tomorrow that is loitering. We even have slowly started putting pictures up; I have some very nice pictures that look great on the walls.
I started hemming the curtains as they are all 84" long and my windows are the very odd length of 68 inches. So they all drag, and don’t look good. I still need to get curtains for the bedroom, right now we have a sheet hung.
And the bedroom is almost put together. A bunch of stuff is leaving this weekend, as some of it is going to his brother.
My pantry currently has all kinds of stuff stuffed into it to get it out of the way. Eventually, once the house is organized, and the SO takes the stuff to his brother, I will clear it out and possibly install shelves and then I can let you know what’s in there.
Oh, and Drae- where/when are we meeting you on Saturday?
Ciao, everyone. Just a quick drive-by cause work is craaaaaaaazy! Many, many thanks for the loverly birthday wishes. You guys are all just Jake!! The weekend was bittersweet…I’ll tell ya later…but I did get a booful amber necklace from Mr. Anachi complete with bug.
My pantry is a black hole. Suffice it to say it’s full of sundries.
Bobbio, are you havin’ some kind of contest with FCM to see who is the hardest worker? Sheesh, your chore lists are wearing me out, and I’m just reading them? Where do you find the energy?
eleanor, I’m sorry to read about your marital woes. I hope things work out.
Drae! Welcome home! I’m glad you didn’t eat too much of that brownie and fall in a canal or something.
I really don’t want to be here at work today. Tonight, I need to pick up the the school supplies for the kids. School starts tomorrow, so I can’t put it off any longer.
Good morning! We had a little fun last night, the cat turned on the Roomba again. It’s hard to get to sleep when a little plastic robot is going “bump” in the night, and the pets are stampedeing from room to room in terror.
Hi Mika!
Twinks, when I was at my parents house, mom made me inventory the cleaning supplies. Does anyone actually * need* six bottles of bleach gel?
Tel, you are correct – whiterabbit is indeed in Shreveport. Not that she’s crazy about the place, but she lives there. (But the same can be said for many of us, can’t it?) So if you do end up there, I’m sure she’d be glad to have Doper company.
gt, you forgot that other word for closet that we’ve been discussing this whole thread: pantry.
Dotty, that’s a lovely little sugarbaby you have there – looks just like a little peanut!
Rigs, sorry you’re having problems. Good thoughts headed your way.
I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the happy pictures Drae posts. If you know what I mean. *wink wink nudge nudge
Okay, chocolate cinnamon rolls? How did I miss the recipe? And where can I find it? :::drool:::
Today’s TMI, delicately phrased: I found out why I’ve been feeling like crap and headachy and miserable for the last two days. I’m 52 freaking years old and freakind Aunt Flo came for a visit this morning. After a year and a half of staying away like she should. I am seriously PO’d. I seriously thought I was beyond all this. So I’m going to go back to working and sulking now.
