Of course we missed you MagicEyes!! I’ve been asking if anyone knew where you were! Glad you’re ok and still posting.
Can’t read any more. Gotta do work!

I saw sugarbaby. Looks more like a big lima bean that a peanut to me. Still it’s our sugarbaby! YAY!
Yup. Don’t know why. I didn’t really even watch him all that much. But yeah, I’m more sad than I usually get when a celebrity dies.
Anyway, pantry… this is tough 'cause I’m at work and the pantry’s at home. It’s actually a pantry/laundry room so the major things in there are the washer and dryer along with the laundry supplies. And the two cat boxes. And a 20 lb bag of kitty litter. And a 20 lb bag of cat food. 'Cause what goes in must come out or something like that so the amount of food must equal the amount of litter. It always seems to work out that way.
As far as food stuffs go, there’s pasta, baking supplies, some cookies, some chips - tortilla and Sun Chips, crackers, and who knows what else. The cabinets in the kitchen have the spices, oils, canned veggies/fruits, canned tuna, etc. The PB is natural so it’s in the fridge (doesn’t separate that way). The ketchup and mustard are in the fridge too 'cause there’s more room there than in the cabinets. Goodness only knows what else is in the cabinets.
There are some chocolate chip cookies on the counter though. I made them over the weekend. And pancakes yesterday morning. I made bacon with the pancakes for breakfast so I cooked the pancakes in the bacon fat instead of in butter. Ooooh, they were good.
KeithT’s parents came up Saturday and we went to a wool mill with them to get blankets and stuff at outlet-type prices. We got two throws for $5 each with barely discernable irregularities. Nice deal.
Then we hit the zoo, which was good timing because it’d been raining earlier which scared off the crowds. So a good time there.
And we had really good pizza at our fav Neapolitan pizza place for dinner.
The parents left Sunday morning so after church we just relaxed. Yesterday we hit the outlet mall and got all kinds of good clothes.
That pretty much sums up the weekend. Now I’m at work trying to do things but all the processes are running really slowly this morning. Argh!
Beats me. I had a hell of a time getting up at 0430 to get to the Y to swim. I came to the office just so’s I can rest.
Still waiting for my first fire call, so I can sweat heavily while standing around in my turnout gear, looking all important. I won’t be able to play for a while…
That was exciting. Bailey puked on the sheets, down the side of the bed, and in a four-foot line towards my closet. Explosive and exciting, and not in a good way.
Laundry’s done.
Time for breakfast/lunch.
Not much until I get all the derelicts torn down. The jungle is on the back side…
I want to get that cleared so I know what is out there before I hire the bulldozer to go dozing. I’m sure there’ll be something really scary back there, like the skeletons of Judge Crater and Jimmy Hoffa getting freaky…
When I’m done with it all, the entire area will be my vegetable garden and peach grove.
I s’pose you keep your opened jar of Duke’s Mayonnaise back there, too. :dubious:
Off to Swampy’s for tuna salad!
We don’t have a pantry. Just a bunch of cupboards and some kind of washstand-like piece of furniture that holds spices and cookies.
I purged the house of all crappy wrenches and sockets. Sunday, when reattaching the blase to the lawn mower, I snapped the socket wrench I was using. That made me annoyed beyond belief. Since it was Labor Day weekend, I knew that Sears would be having a sale of some type or another, so I went and got me the 263-piece socket and wrench set. When I got it home, that’s when I threw out all the crappy bargain-brand tools.
Oh, and the storm (Ernesto) didn’t bother me too much, although parts of the neighboring cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Portsmouth were under water. I just had a bunch of tree debris to round up and stack on the curb.
Nah. I keep that in the cabinet over the stove so it’ll get extra warm everytime I use the oven.
Just a quick driveby as work is quite busy today. I got here at noon (on a reduced schedule right now so I can finish my undergrad this semester) and there were 50 new emails in my inbox! This is a government office, none of these people were here over the weekend, that means all of these came in this morning! Anyone who read the irrational fears thread that was around here not too long ago may recall that I have an irrational fear of email (says the computer science major), so this is going to be a rough day.
Pantry-wise I can’t say much as we don’t have one, but our cupboards are packed with noodles of all shapes and sizes put there by our Canadian roommate, we refer to it as his ‘noodle museum’.
RE: Steve Irwin
Count me amongst those who are really affected by his death. It’s strange, I have only rarely seen his show as I don’t have cable (though I really enjoyed it when I did see it) but it was always nice to know that he was out there both passionately working on conservation and getting others excited about it. It just seems like there is something wrong with a world that doesn’t have him in it. I haven’t had a chance to talk to her yet but I am sure that my youngest sister is devestated, he was one of her biggest heros and a good chunk of the reason that she is going into zoology.
The only other celebrity death that has really affected me at all, let alone this much, would be that of Douglas Adams in 2001. Others have mentioned Jim Henson, and I imagine if I had been old enough at the time to really grasp what was happening I would have been, but being six at the time I was more shocked that this guy who had entertained my parents back before I was born had still been alive at all.
Eww, warm mayonnaise. Ick. Ick ick ick. Even cold, properly refrigerated mayonnaise is a little on the ick side. Weird white gloppy stuff. Pfeh.
In less icky news, I went over to the physics department building. I was very excited to find I have a mailbox and a desk there! YAY! I met with a few people, including some of the other grad students. You know Dartmouth is an Ivy League school because they have afternoon tea twice a week. :dubious:
Bad pictures, no particular order, I’m the girl without glasses.
I’m working on a narrative of the whole trip, but it’ll be a while.
Hello, all! There is no way I am going to inventory my pantry for you people. (or panty either, for that matter) Gah. Talk about work. I went to the grocery yesterday and it is chock full. Chock. I have a closet-type pantry, a cupboard and a lazy susan, all devoted to the various foods (along with the fridge, of course) that it takes to run two adults and three children. (Plus the other children who happen over, as was the case this weekend. I was operating an elementary school cafeteria, there for a while! :smack:
The lazy susan does contain other stuff, such as the ice cream maker. Which reminds me: when it comes to making ice cream, you all may wish to know, I AM A GOD. Well, goddess, I suppose, would be more correct. I scrupulously followed the recipe for the first three or four times I made it … then I was low on an ingredient or two, winged it and BINGO, discovered that you can make ice cream out of pretty much anything, provided you’ve got mainly milkish type substances in there.
Here is my latest wing-it recipe.
Fabu Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
Makes 1 quart
Two eggs
Half a can sweetened condensed milk – “Eagle Brand Milk”
Splash o’ vanilla extract
Half can evaporated milk – “Pet Milk”
Soy milk (I use unsweetened Silk)
Mix first four ingredients thoroughly. Place in ice-cream maker. Fill to 3/4 full with soy milk. Follow manufactuer’s directions to process.
Voila
I also make an absolutely smashing hummus, too, totally ad lib. Oil, beans, garlic, salt. Yum.
So anyway, I did some cooking over the weekend, as you may have noticed. Furthermore, I intend to continue the Cooking Trend, making one of my famous marinated pork loins for the big family party coming up on Sunday, in which my darling boy turns 2. TWO YEARS OLD.
glances at well-padded hips Didn’t I just give birth???
EC I coddle the eggs before adding 'em to the mixture. Just have to make sure the eggs are cooled down before adding. An ice water bath will do that. Raw eggs skeeve me out these days.
I also have a recipe that calls for heating all the ingredients before freezing. That makes a more custardy type ice cream which is tres yum.
The Pepsi guys are here. They sure are noisy! We’re getting a new Pepsi machine. Woohoo! I just want 'em to hurry up and get out cause I wanna go home soon.
There! Caught up, well except for seeing all 104 of drae’s pictures which will have to wait until I get some work done.
rifty, I am also saddened by Steve’s death. I’ve liked him from Day One and even read a small autobiography he did a couple years back. How could you not miss that very bright beacon?
Okay, why my weekend was bittersweet: Well, as y’all know, it was my birthday and the celebration dinner was very very nice. And my sister and BIL came in from Dallas which was also nice. The sad thing is that they came because they know Grampy is failing fast and it would probably be the last time they would be able to talk with him. He knows, too. He is very frail and only got out of bed to socialize with the greatest effort. The last thing he said to my sister was a phrase she said as a toddler that he had always thought was very cute.
Hope you don’t mind if I just say yay, boo, awww, tsk, tsk as appropriate. Carry on.
That’s what I wanted to work out with you–I know you’ve got a much longer drive than we do, so I thought I’d see what time you planned on getting there. I can get there any time from opening to closing. I figured we could meet at the stocks right by the entrance, because it’s easy to find. I don’t know if my cell phone gets service up there, but later in the week, I’ll drop you an e-mail with my number.
Don’t forget, I have a passenger. Spats, what do you say? And Twinkie’s coming, right? Anyone else?
Great pix Drae! Looks like an awesome trip.
I’m sorry I can’t join you guys at the Ren Faire. Wish we’d done it last year!
My car is truly idiot-proof. I have those idiot lights (no need to ever actually turn them on and off - the car does it for you), it dings when you get really low on gas, plus it has an idiot strap on the gas cap so you don’t lose it when filling up.
I was taking my daughter to work and had the radio on a wee bit too loud (good song, you know). I merged left onto another route, using my turn signal like a Good Driver. I didn’t actually turn, just merged over. After a few minutes, I heard that ‘ping-ping-ping’ sound it usually makes when the gas is low. I knew I had nearly a full tank and looked down. Ah, the turn signal was still on! Some idiot forgot to turn it off after merging!
Of course, now I feel like a fool.
OK, somebody explain this to me. I can pay every single bill I have on line except for one - the cable/internet bill. Please, 'splain that. It does not compute…
In other news, there was something I wanted to share - I thought about it at work, and made a mental note. Then I promptly forgot it. And it was wonderfully entertaining and provocative, too, and scintillating, and stuff like that there! No, really, it was. Too bad I forgot it. <sigh>
Bad night last night. I had a horrible time falling asleep, and I kept waking up. Between the rain, a noisy dog, a cat that smacked me in the face, a snoring husband, and a bizarre dream that involved me and Penn Jilette graduating from college together, I didn’t get much rest. I’m thinking tonight’s bedtime will be chemically induced.
Hi, scout!!
When my sweetie gets home, we’re going to go check on the boat, since it poured all day. Then he’s going to take me out to dinner. So at least there won’t be dishes to wash tonight.
That’s all I’ve got, till I remember whatever the heck it was I wanted to post…
