Rosie, I meant to add you to my well wishes. I really hope you get to feeling better.

**Taters ** - I heard the flu has hit early this year . . . go see your doctor

Ya got me there. Hump away Mika.

kai prayers and good thoughts headed to your friend and family from south Jawja. I’ve been there with the taking somebody (dad) of life support thing. Like Taters said, it’s one of the hardest decisions ever to make. Good thoughts and prayers for your daughter too. Sounds like she’s maybe starting to get over it.

Taters and Rosie hope y’all feel better soon.

Puggy Mr. Anachi might not mind the Johnny Depp statue if he gets to dress him funny. That’d be fun!

Sean middle aged straight white guys should never do tummy accents. It would cause a rip in the space-time continuum.

Or ripped abs?

Ya know, I completely missed that it was Sean asking about the tummy accents. Hee.

So sorry to hear about your friend, kai. Hugs, prayers and good thoughts to you, your family, and your friends.

Hugs to all of you who have been affected by Steve Irwin’s death. I’ve barely ever seen him, so I’m not hit as hard, but I’ve been impressed by the number of people who are mourning him.

Hope you feel better quickly, Taters.

Ummmm…swampy…Johnny Depp in Drae’s picture was already dressed rather oddly. Gotta agree that his statue seemed like the most authentic of the bunch, though.

Faraway Best Friend and family have left (they left around 11 or so) and now it seems really quiet here. Her daughter was really upset because I was their last stop and that meant that all the people she was so excited about seeing have been seen and now there’s just a couple of days in Florida and then they go home. She gets really upset about good-byes.

I’ve been to Target where they were apparently having a special on the entry fee because I only spent $5.

I think I’m gonna take a nap and then I need to do a bunch of work stuff.

Need to go to the grocery eventually as well. I’m also doing laundry, running sheets and towels through the wash so that everything in the house is clean clean clean.

GT

I’ve been wonderin’ about sump’n. I hear speak of an entry fee for Tarjay. Would’t it be more like an exit fee? Why yes, I do have better things to do, I just choose to do this right now.

How about shoulder shimmies?

Fold your arms across your chest, in the “I’m in my coffin” position. Sit up straight. Rotate your torso to the right, and then to the left. You should be moving like a washing machine- horizontally, not vertically. Your spine is the central axis. Extend your arms and keep doing the back-and-forth rotation. Speed it up… Don’t use your shoulders, and try not to move your arms.

If you’re a girl, you will be able to achieve very interesting chestal shaking. I have seen men do it too, though.
I’ve just made a big pot of something yummy. I browned a lot of crumbled up sausage, and cooked it with white wine (leftover), canned tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, and zuchinni. I think I will bake a cake with dried berries, yogurt, and ricotta. I have to use up some yogurt and ricotta. Maybe with lemon zest. I got a package of mixed dried berries at Costco, and I’m not crazy about them. They added too much sugar. I wish we had a Trader Joe’s! Anyway, they’ll be good in cake.
kai, I’m sorry. Prayers headed out.

kaiwik, I’m so sorry to hear about your friend, and also that your daughter is having a hard time regarding Steve Irwin. I was not a loyal fan, but when I heard the news, it was distressing because he’s such an energetic, positive person! It’s sad to lose someone like that, someone who has influenced so many people, and made such a mark in the world.

Speaking of eggplant, I have some in the fridge. It’s Chinese eggplant and it’s green, not purple. it has a milder flavor and is delish fried up. I’m usually not a fryer (friar? ha! ) but with banana peppers in the house, I’m frying a lot this summer.

Hey, I’ve seen those Boflex commercials on television:

  • the 41-year-old beach volleyball player (guy) who ends up with two hotties half his age walking on the beach
  • the stacked 50-year old grandmother who gets it on at poolside

Those are targeted to my demographic - middle-aged straight white guys with a disposal income.

Rosie, you can’t be sick. Your cheeks are so pink…

Insider humor for those with lupus…

VWife has been having trouble with back pain the last few days, feeling yucky, and her legs are swollen. She thinks that maybe she’s having a flare, and it’s going after her one functional kidney…

I know you know from whence you speak, bobbio
pink polka dots just ain’t the same thing

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: *Bite me, bear!!! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: *

You say this as if from experience… :dubious:

:stuck_out_tongue:

Man, the MMP sure got sad here. Hugs all around - you know who you are.

Except **swampy ** - you deserve a swat with a rolled-up newspaper, just because I care!

**MBG ** - here’s one up your alley - how should this be handled?
Co-worker just spent 45 minutes on the phone with the company whose bus route her 6 yo son is on - they were late picking him up, very late, so her neighbor picked the boy up. From her end of the conversation, the bus co people a) could not give a satisfactory explanation for the lateness, b) tho she repeatedly asked to speak to a human being transferred her to a flunkie’s voice mail, c) got angry at her for attempting to find out why they didn’t do their job nor did they notify her (or 2 other parents affected) that they would be unable to do it. Based on cw’s end of the conversation, busco stated that when driver finally did show up (over an hour late) there were no kids to pick up to which cw replied (politely but firmly) to the effect of “of course no kids were there you moron! we made alternate arrangements because it’s not safe for young children to stand around a deserted school!” I have to hand it to cw - she kept her cool and maintained an even vocal tone even tho she was clearly upset, and my jawed dropped when she said “I don’t appreciate you raising your voice to me” How could busco blame parent? She left it with “I’ll take your word that this was an isolated incident, but I promise you, if my son is not picked up on time tomorrow, we will be speaking again”

Erm, you mean after I undressed it???

The MMP really is sad this week, isn’t it? Indescriminate hugs and good thoughts all around (is that redundant?). Luckily my sad news is more frusterating than sad. After two days of jumping through as many hoops as I could locate I hear that my paperwork did not get in fast enough for the school to approve my job for the internship program. You know how hard it is to meet with 5 different people in 3 different departments, all of whom get to work after me and leave work before me, and all of whom need to meet with me personally (phone conversations and faxed signitures will not suffice), within a one week period? It’s really hard.

sigh This means I can’t graduate until next May, and I have no clue how that effects my ability to get into grad school in January. I’ve known people who have been able to duel enroll undergrad/grad in similar situations, but I have to talk to more people who will be difficult to track down before I can determine if that is an option for me.

I’m sorry about your friend, kai; I can’t even imagine how tough it must be for his family. I’m glad they have good friends like you to be there with them; sometimes friends are the most important people in the world.

And I’m sorry your daughter took Steve Irwin’s death so hard. I think what so many people are having difficulty coping with is that he was so full of life. Losing someone like that leaves a real hole in the world. I lost a dear friend a few years ago who had that same ability to just radiate life and energy, and the world still seems like there’s something important missing; it’s been five years since her death now and I still am frequently startled to remember that she’s no longer here. But those are the best kind of people, too, so it’s good that we should miss them; we’re honoring their lives by doing so. If any of this makes any sense to you; it does to me, anyway.

{{{taters}}} – feel better soon! And like anyflower said, go to your doctor – these days they have things that can make the flu go away faster, if that’s what it is.

I love competition in things like TV cable. Verizon is about to start offering broadcast TV (via fiber optic lines we just had strung into our house) in our area, so today Comcast called and offered us digital cable for an extra $1 a month. No catch that I could determine up front, although we’re going to quiz the young lady about it more when she calls back later. We couldn’t be bothered to pay $35 a month for digital cable, but $1? Yeah, I think that’s in the budget. Supply and demand, it’s a thing of beauty.

You guys have been having too much fun while I was off nose to the grindstone today. :dubious: That’s no fair! You’re supposed to wait till I get back to have fun!

In the Good News department, yay! for us – whiterabbit is coming to visit next weekend! (Not this one, FCM, or she could come to your craft show with us; but I’m sure I’ll have an FCM Original™ to show her.) I haven’t seen her in a year now, so I’m very pleased. And she’s never seen the idiots in fur coats go to the beach, so a great time should be had by all. We’re already looking forward to her Doggie Boyfriend’s reaction to seeing her again – Isaac the idiot yellow lab took one look at her the first time he ever saw her and fell hopelessly head over heels in love with her. She loves everything about it – except when he gets so excited just sitting there looking at her that he gets a doggie boner. But he WUVS her!

matriarchal feline - the $1/month is very likely a promotional price to get you to take cable over DSL (or whatever verizon is offering) and will likely be for only a year (or maybe 6 months - depends on your cable company) Which bay’s dock are you on?
btw - “anyflower”??? :dubious:

oh, and I forgot to mention - if we’re taking up a collection to get the Johnny Depp figure from Mme Trousaud’s to the US, to share on a rotating basis, I am SO in!
