The corresponding "Welcome OpalCat to Atlanta" party!

Hmph yourself, mister. We are perfectly willing to venture ITP. Unless you’re really dying to see Scooter, then you have to come out here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Geobabe, I sent you an e-mail about this…

Whoo hoo, I’m all in for the weekend of the 15th! If it gets changed, that is.

And Opal, we’ll be neighbors

I’m in - and since I think this is the first gathering since I moved here in September, we could welcome me, too!
(This living alone, not knowing hardly anyone, not socializing hardly at all stuff is getting kind of old) Not that I’m complaining. Nope.

I’m in! Either weekend would work for me as things stand now. Dear Robert will be working till late afternoon, though, so depending on the time, he might or might not be able to come.

jugglerdan has informed me that there is a possibility he’ll have a schedule conflict on the 8th, so I’m going to make an executive decision that the party will be on the 15th. I’m also going to make an executive decision that the party will take place at 6 PM, unless someone presents me with a compelling reason to choose a different time.

He also sent me links to a couple of possible locations, The Vortex and Brewhouse Cafe, both of which have a good selection of vegetarian options for Opal. Opinions on either of these, or other suggestions? Any place we choose needs to have veggie menu options, and be easily accessible from one of the many major highways we have around here.

Well, since you’re talking about two places just down the street from my house, how can I say no?

(I assume you’re talking about the Vortex in Little 5 Points. There’s another in Midtown.)

The 15th works for me. Though if we’d chosen the 8th, we could have had some real fun at the Star Community Bar (across the street from the Vortex and ground zero for celebration of Elvis’s Birthday in Atlanta).

I’m very fond of the Vortex in Little Five Points, but if we expect a big turnout we’ll want the Brewhouse; it’s much bigger. The Brewhouse also has more vegetarian options (I’m also a vegetarian), including a soy sausage that is pert-near to die for.

On the other hand, there’s also a Vortex in Midtown, as spoke- notes, and it’s both bigger even than the Brewhouse, and probably easier to find, as it’s right on Peachtree Street.

I vote for the Vortex because it looks fun  Plus it won an award for best veggie burger…

The Vortex in Midtown has a larger beer on tap selection than the one in Little 5 Points. I would suggest the Midtown location of the Vortex, and second Opal’s vote for the Vortex…

Can I come? I would love to finally meet some fellow Dopers. I grew up in Atlanta, so I can find my way around, too.

Ok, since the event has been moved, I’m in. I haven’t been to either of these places, so I’m ok with either choice. 6PM sounds great!

Of course you can come! All Dopers are welcome! We love meeting new folks.

I’m definitely down with the Midtown Vortex, so let’s say that’s the place. It’s at 878 Peachtree Street, Atlanta Georgia, 30309 for anyone who needs to map it. 6 PM. Be there.

Who else? C’mon! It’ll be fun!

I may be able to make it. I’m a house captain for Martin Luther King weekend service projects. (We repair houses for seniors on limited incomes). Saturday is the first day of the project, but by 6:00 it will be dark, and we may have knocked off for the day. Pencil me in, OK?

And I love the Vortex!

A couple of other suggestions: The Brick Store in Decatur. Very cool new upstairs room, fabulous beer and pub grub, and easily accessible by MARTA (right near the Decatur station).

Manuel’s Tavern (North Avenue and Highland) - many rooms for gatherings.

Oops! Missed the part about “definitely down with the Vortex!” Never mind the other suggestions.

And anyway, the Brick Store is too small, unless that “new room” you mention is really spacious.

It is really spacious! They took the entire upstairs of Sweet Melissa’s next door and turned it into a “Belgian Beer Bar!”

You should see it - it can easily accomodate 20-30 people.

Wow, cool!

There’s definitely a visit to the Brick Store looming in my very near future.

I can’t believe I’m moving in FOUR DAYS!!! EEEEEK!

How time flies, huh? Best of luck with all the packing and the move, Opal!
