The "counting one's blessings" MMP

A lovely autumn late afternoon, so I’m having a peaceful moment out on the steps with the cats, plus First Dinner: I baked a storebought loaf of crusty Italian bread, and am stuffing my face with hot slices slathered alternately with butter & brie, and listening to the honking geese hurrying south in their flying “V” formations.

I have a small hunk o’cow I’m planning to prep for Second Dinner, but that can wait. For now, I want to enjoy the fading sunlight.

It was good. I’m now home and FCD is snarfing down his wings. I’m about to get into comfy lounging clothes for an evening of chillage.

Toby has flipped into proper birth position, so chances are they’ll just induce my daughter on or about Nov 15. So less than a month to new babby!!! :confetti_ball:

shoe That does sound like a lovely evening. Enjoy! Fading sunlight a 6:30? Been dark for half an hour here.

I’m debating between a pizza and a burger. The pizza would mean I’d have to leave the house, as the good pizza place doesn’t deliver. Hmm, I’ve had an adult beverage, so I guess the pizza is out. Maybe I’ll have the less good place bring me lasagna.

Howdy Y’all! I survived the doc and vampire this mornin’. I got flu and pneumonia shots. BP is lookin’ good (the new med is wunnerful!), and I have lost ten pounds in the last three months. I have done nuttin’ special except cuttin’ way back on the snacks. Still good to know. Sup got et and we worked on our sloth skills. Thus was the day in swampland.

It just dawned on me as I unpacked an Amazon box and checked in on eBay orders in transit that there are legal adults who do not remember a world that did not have Amazon (founded 1994) or eBay (founded 1995).

Feeling just a little elderly at the moment, that’s all.

Evening all. Picked up my prescriptions at the pharmacy after soccer practice so that job is done. Also picked up my driver’s license at the bank where I left it after cashing a check yesterday…somedays I wonder…

FCM, good news on Toby assuming the position, hope birth-date is relatively easy and uncomplicated.

shoe, that sounds like a wonderful evening.

obi, been in a lot of those meetings with a customer (foreign military in my case) and yeah, let the folks who have the responsibility and knowledge do the talking.

OK, mac-n-cheese is quietly (for now) digesting so best be about internettin’, readin’ and TV-in’ for the balance of the evening. All y’all take care.

I wisely went with the burger option, and not leaving the house after booze. Now am settled watching the Sox playing the 'Stros. I’ve had good luck staying in my office chair. To stay in the less comfy spot? Just hit a triple, may stay here for a bit.

I just tried to cook one. The chicken was delicious, but I need to work on my crisping skills.

I had my neurologist visit. Changes to 2 medicines, and adding another new one. Also, I’m supposed to schedule 2 minor surgical procedures. Unfortunately, the consensus is that I’m too allergic to the new medicine that seems to be working to repeat the infusion any time soon.

I’m having a G&T and thinking about life.

@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat Do you know if they have announced a cause for the Amtrak derailment?

There’s a stunning full moon out tonight. Y’all should step outside and see it!

Small Hunk O’Cow was quite yum. Gonna hit the bed shortly, as Mr. Sandman has made a visit.

While looking for something on Google Maps tonight, in my old home town of Green Bay, I decided to see if the house where I grew up, and where my parents and sister still live, was now in Google Street View.

Answer: yes, it is, and there’s my dad, about to get in the car.

: waves at Dad :

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure groceries today and I have the usual church janitor Junior Warden stuff to attend to today. Sup shall be shrimpies 'n grits and steamed spareguts. Haven’t had shrimpies 'n grits in a while so it will be a treat.

shoe the moon was beautiful last night and this mornin’. I walked out on the back porch a few minutes ago to look.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life is full of bother!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I could NOT fall asleep last night till after midnight. ugh. And FCD had a bad night, so I didn’t sleep a whole lot after that. He just left for a meeting and I’m going to have my morning computer time before hitting the shower.

Today’s only plan is slapping some paint on the bare spots on the deck where I knocked the old flaked paint off. I want to get enough on there to protect the planks over the winter, then come spring, the whole deck will get a new coat. It shouldn’t take more than an hour or so to get that little chore done.

The basement bathroom so far seems to be maintaining low 70s with mid-50%s humidity. I may consider having a tray of water to maintain a bit more moisture in the air - we shall see. I’ll feed everything and give it all a good drink before we leave next Tues so SIL won’t have to deal with it.

Meanwhile, the new babby is suddenly looming large - less than a month to go. I have a bunch of stuff I need to take from my house to theirs - like the onesies and the diapers. And we need to finish fixing the crib - FCD needs to make a few shims, then we’ll screw it all together. Apparently, TPTB have deemed that cribs with sides that lower are deathtraps… or something… so we’re going to make the sliding side fixed. We kinda have to anyway - some of the slide parts have disappeared.

Roxy still insists she wants a sister, not a brother. Drama ahead!

Caffeination continues. Happy Wednesday!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s is POURING rain outside at the moment. I have the window open listening to it because it’s darn hot in the den. I should just turn off the heat, but I need to double-check the weather report first.

Another restless night and when I did fall asleep I had terrible dreams. In the last dream I remember, I was in a home that was mine (but not mine) and my Aunt Judie called and said she was on her way. She called on my husband’s cell phone number, which she doesn’t have. Anyway, she visited my teeny dream house and stated she liked it. The next thing I knew, I was standing in a line and I was getting ready to be executed; only I had to execute myself. I talked the guy in front of me into tripping the switch that would set me to hanging. It was a long, deep conversation and in the end, I wanted to give him a hug, but he wouldn’t let me. The next thing I knew, I was dead, and my obituary was on a wall. Then I woke up. It was a disturbing dream.

It’ll be another busy workday, filled with meetings and must-do nows, but I have only one more wake-up and then the weekend begins for me.

In the things to be thankful for, I neglected to mention you all. I’ve been “talking” to some of you for over 20 years! I am thankful to come to a place that’s pleasant, lets me ramble about my rather mundane life, and gives me a lift or smile when I’m feeling down. You are all terrific!

Well, time for another cup of coffee. I should clean up the kitchen too.

Um, duh!!! :open_mouth: That dream achieved a new level of creepy!! You have a weird sleeping brain!

I think the RoxStar infected me. My throat feels weird. Rotten kid… :stuck_out_tongue:

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 13C/55F and cloudy, in fact the rain has been quite biblical this morning. It was heaving down when I left for irk in the dark so I caught a bus instead of the half-hour walk. The bus was not pleasant. The trains weren’t much better either but I got here without too much delay. Been a busy morning with meetings about stuff I don’t want to do

Obi how fab seeing your dad on the interwebz! I looked at the house where I grew up, just a few months ago before taking a trip down to that part of the country. The street is almost unrecognisable in some ways, mainly because I remember it having very few cars as hardly anyone had a car at that point, but now it’s solid parking on both sides of the street. The house has had quite a bit of work on it too, and the aerial view of the back garden shows that it’s changed considerably from my youth. Still fun to see it, and even more fun to drive past it.

Mooooom good to hear that the Tobester has assumed the correct position and is ready to make an entrance. 15th November is a good date, it’s almost exactly in between my parents’ birthdays as they were born at opposite ends of November, and five years apart.

Taters that sounds like a horrible dream, I hope it’s not one of those that lingers with you for very long. Perhaps the coffee will banish it!

Sunny I have to confess that I’ve had an IP for a couple of years and have definitely not used it at all in the last 18 months. I don’t dislike it, but I also haven’t been particularly inspired by it either. I had a recipe book that was almost all soups and stews which I don’t really bother with. I either need to be inspired, or sell it

Seanette I feel the same way, I remember the early days of eBay and amazon, and wondering if they were genuine businesses or just a massive scam!

Last day on campus for the week, I am looking forward to not getting up in the dark tomorrow!

Morning all. Got about 7 hours sleep and no dark dreams like Taters, so should be good for the day. Pilled myself and rescued the newspaper from the driveway so those morning necessities are done. 71F in the house so the insulation is working good, due to get up to 78F today but rain is predicted for tonight and tomorrow.

Sunny, nothing official yet on the Montana Amtrak, the Natl. Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Railroad Administration both have investigators working on it, so we’ll see a report…sometime. Hope the new meds help.

obi, good Google picture and catching Dad out was a nice bonus. I think all the places I’ve lived in previously (4 houses and three apartment complexes) were still standing last time I looked.

OK, need to check my usual morning sites and get around to things. All y’all take care on Hump Day.

Gargle with warm salt water, posthaste!

Mix as much salt into the water as can possibly dissolve, then gargle, gargle, gargle. If I catch something in the very earliest “throat feels weird” phase, and do this right away, I have often been able to get rid of whatever infection was getting started before it can really take hold.

The moon was indeed lovely last night. Glad you enjoyed your moo, shoe! Now I really want a burger.

I’m struggling this morning. Not in a bad way. I’ve got the day off - sort of. I still have a work call I’ll sit in on in a few hours. But for the moment I’m struggling to convince myself to get out of my PJs and go for my walk. The sun is shining and it’s still relatively cool, so I should go, but oh, boy, is lounging wonderful or what?

Still, my podcast awaits! I’ve got a rule (that I often break) that I can’t listen to my favorite podcast unless I’m somehow ambulating or cleaning. And I want to know what happens next. Guess I’d better get going.

Edited to add: I don’t know why I’m bothering to say this, but days off are extra exciting when they’re accidental. I originally took the day off because mom had an appointment in the morning and late afternoon. The morning appointment was moved to two weeks ago, and I refuse to correct my PTO.

I did that to my mother in grade school quite a few times. Small children are excellent germ factories. Her revenge? She took to writing excuse notes for “Typhoid Mary”. (It was a small town and she has VERY distinctive handwriting. School staff knew who she meant, especially since I was an only child.)

Walmart delivery arrived a little early, but not enough so to be a problem (I was up by the time it arrived). Everything was present, but it was delivered in those thin single-use grocery bags, with no printing at all. Very generic, compared to the usual thicker ones proclaiming their store of origin. Not that I object, since I do have reuses for those thinner ones, such as scooping the royal litterbox.
