Check out the anime “Another” on Crunchyroll. Definitely the creepiest thing I’ve ever watched. WARNING: The anime gets really gory starting in the second episode.
jesus fucking h christ! Fuck you man! Fuck you right in the ass!
My wife and I have been on somewhat of a time crunch, nothing unusual for parents of growing children mind you, but still something we have not yet gotten used to. It’s gotten better in the last week or so however, previous to that the day would start in a rush to get our boys to school early for the clubs they attends at school. Then after work rushing to pick them up from after school care. Rushing to fix some sort of dinner before off to flag football practice, or tutoring or any number of things. Then a rush for bedtime, to start it all over again.
Then I had this dream last week. Ok, nightmare. Scariest nightmare I have ever had. It started quite suddenly and seemingly in the middle instead of a beginning.
My wife found a way to turn time back. It was quite simple really. It turns out her watch was somewhat haunted, maybe possessed is a better word. We discovered we could add two hours to our day any time we wanted by setting the watch back that amount of time. The trick was to then fall asleep for a nap. When we awoke the time would be two hours previous to the time we laid down. Now, these hours don't just appear out of nowhere. You can't really ADD time to the world as we know it and as such, the world was not as we know it. It was evil. It was dark. Everything during this time was in shades of brown and grey. The sky was full of shifting storm clouds moving at a high rate of speed by an un-felt wind. Shadows were everywhere but they were not empty, things (for lack of a better word) lurked in them. The feeling of evil was ever present and ominous. It was not our world created for us by God. It was more of an alternate world alike in many ways but inhabited by the evil that was meant to be separated from us. We were breaking that line of separation and entering into it quite voluntarily, though, at the time we didn't yet know it. The world we entered into seemed an abandoned place. Cities had no moving cars and there were no people. No dogs running down the streets. No birds in the sky. Buildings were decrepit and decaying. Darkness, as I mentioned, was everywhere.
We were, as it turns out, unintentioned invading guests of great interest. Evil, otherwise slumbering and disinterested in their world of purgatory, would wake on our arrival and follow us. Sometimes at a distance, sometimes bold and unafraid. Often swooping quickly from behind to mutter or laugh in our ear only to vanish. Sometimes with a cold caress on the cheek that would bring ice down the spine. We were followed everywhere by shadows and forms watching our every move. We would spend our two hours in the world devoid of time rushing to get accomplished what we didn't have time for in ours. Rushing, not only to get what we needed done, but to get away from the heavy weight of fright. Always looking over our shoulders to see things moving and disappearing. Always finding the moving shadows closer the next time we looked. We were very frightened by this world but still grateful for the time we had to get what needed to be done, done. We would retreat to... where, I don't know, whatever passed for our bedroom in this world I suppose. Set the watch back two hours again and then nap. We would wake up back in our everyday world at the exact time we had originally laid down, thus, not losing any additional time.
Our world after waking was bright and normal. OUR world. We went about our day satisfied with knowing we got accomplished what needed to be done. As it seems with many things in the occult however, we didn't come back completely alone. Some of the evil in the previous world was able to follow us back to ours. We didn't notice it at first. Then we would start to see some of the same things as before. Dark shadows in the corners that shouldn't be there. When you would look away from them you could see that they began to move in preparation of you not seeing them. Crouching. Watching. They followed us always, behind and aside, just in the periphery. At first we just thought it was our minds playing tricks on us and dismissed it as the heebie jeebies of the other world. The other world that we quickly started to believe never really happened as the memories faded like a dream.
We eventually needed more time in our day again and my wife pointed out that maybe it wasn't a dream, maybe it did happen and we should try it again. We noted that nothing REALLY bad had happened. So we did it again, set back the watch. Napped. Awoke in a world that was not ours. The evil in the "other" as we called it, became even stronger and bolder. Soon the darkness in the "other" would consume us leaving our paths darker then even the rest of the "other" as the evil and what I can only assume to be demonic forces surrounded us. Once again we returned to our own world. This time followed by more darkness attached to us. We became easy to anger and snapped at each other, our minds themselves were darker, angrier, cloudier. This cycled two more times, each time worse then the one previous to it. Each time I KNEW we should not return to the "other" but we HAD to get more time. Each time when returning we were making our world more and more like the "other" as we brought over more and more evil that always, ALWAYS attached itself to us and would not let go of us. Our lives in our own world were becoming hell and torment and we were constantly frightened and angry. It was tearing at our lives and it was SCARING us to death.
Our last time in the "other" we grasped each other by our arms and VOWED to each other NEVER to return no matter what the cost.
And then just like that I woke up from my dream. I was in my own bed on my stomach, turned toward my wife and... my wife was asleep. She was mumbling something I couldn't understand but she was getting louder. She was chanting. It was not her voice that was doing the chanting either. It was deep and gravely. She was chanting the same thing over and over but it was not in English, it sounded like Latin. I went to shake her but realized I couldn't move from the middle of my neck down but I strained to look around me. The only thing I could see was a dark TALL mass behind me looking down and it was slowly, SLOWLY coming near me, and it was reaching for me. I struggled to scream and thrash but I couldn't move and it was coming closer. It was mist, it was shadow, it was smoke, it was fog, it was EVIL stronger then I had ever felt and it was reaching for me. My wife's chanting was growing louder in her sleep and filling the room and it grew ever closer and closer. I wanted nothing but the panic to end. Pure unadulterated adrenalized panic and fear like nothing I have ever felt nor want to feel again. It glided closer and with one outstretched finger of fog touched me. It touched me right under my shoulder blade and I instantly felt a searing sharp electrical stab and SCREAMED out of my paralysis.
And awoke again sucking in air as though I had not breathed for hours. I awoke in my own bed, with my wife who was not chanting but sleeping beautifully. I was back in reality that was nighttime darkness but not the dark of enveloping evil. A real dark, an OK dark. I then prayed one of the most honest prayers of protection and love I have ever prayed in my life. Gently I tried to wake my wife but she was in her own dream world. I gathered up my strength and woke my dog to come walk with me through the house. I checked every child, every door and every window. I drank some water and took some advil for a crushing headache I was feeling. I crawled back into bed and woke up my wife to ask her that simple question. I asked, "are you ok". "Yes", she sleepily replied, "why?". "I had a bad dream" I said, "that's all".
One week later if you were to ask me where I was touched on my back, I can point out the exact spot to you. I can still feel it.
Damn Whammo, those are two (one?) awful dreams!
But, they were very interesting to read.
Yeah, no kidding! You should stretch that out into a short story and try to get it published somewhere!
And I thought the dream I had last night where my wife was pregnant again was bad . . .
Here is a nice dream story.
A few days after my beagle passed away I woke up to see her at the side of my bed, happy and healthy, waiting for me to pick her up. (She was too short to easily jump on the bed herself so I usually had to reach over the side and lift her up.) I KNEW she was gone, I KNEW it was a dream, and I *KNEW *I only had a few seconds with her and to make it count. I reached over, picked her up, placed her on the bed beside me and cuddled happily … until, of course, she faded away and I woke up.
(I know, not “creepy”, but I needed something nice after **Whammo72’**s nightmare.)
Just want to say I’ve been reading The Holders part of Serene Knowledge, which was originally linked by the OP and… I’m not sure who came up with this stuff, but I’ve never read anything like it. It’s… off-putting? Disturbing because I keep reading it.
When I first discovered this (linked, I think, from the Dope as well), I spent waaayyyy too much time reading through all of them. It was like a compulsion. Those things are creepy and disturbing and I love them!
I remember years ago there was a picture on the internet of an alleged kidnapping. It showed two young teens in the back of a van with their hands tied and duct tape over their mouths. The picture was just found somewhere, if I remember correctly (like, on the side of the road)…and it was even featured on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries back when that was on. It was part of a specific case, because they had thought it might be the same girl in the photo that was being featured.
I can’t remember the name of the girl or find the photo now, though…it was one of the most creepy pics I’ve ever seen.
I just read that from beginning to end. Wow. Fucking fantastic.
I see that it was turned into a full-fledged book which I am about to buy for kindle and read RIGHT NOW.
Seriously, anyone who hasn’t read this series of short stories needs to do so. Or just go buy the book on amazon, which has nearly all 5 star reviews.
DAMN THAT WAS GOOD. Seriously I can’t get over it. GO READ IT NOW.
Thank you SO much for sharing!!!
Found it
(Warning: pretty creepy and possibly disturbing photo)
The mysterious disappearance of Maura Murray has always creeped me out. But so do a lot of other unexplained disappearances. These people–what happened to them???
No offense, since you say it was ‘nice’, but that strikes me as kind of creepy. Did you feel your beagle in your arms as you picked her up?
That kind of wigs me out if you could.
I agree - it’s pretty good and I also agree that people should go out and buy it. The author clearly put effort and time into it and it shows.
I’ve seen that - I haven’t checked out the wiki, so I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that this was a fake photo.
Photos involving people in these sorts of violent crimes are profoundly disturbing to me.
It’s weird, I can watch some of the Mexican cartel violence and be disgusted by the gore, but I’m not disturbed, per say. But if I look at a significantly less gory picture (such as the one you posted or the earlier one in the thread) it creeps me out to no end. There is a Russian video (I think it was Russian) where two serial killers video taped themselves attacking/killing a random guy. I haven’t watched it - I just couldn’t (not because of the gore). I think it has to do with the capacity for evil that people have.
Another Creepy SDMB thread:
I just read it, the part that creeps me out:
That link also led to this link:
I don’t remember. I just remember the feeling that she came back to say goodbye and show me that she was alright and that I only had a few precious seconds with her. It was very comforting.
When I was young, I’d watch this show (with Robert Stack, IIRC) and it would give me nightmares.
There is a youtube video that freaks me right the hell out. I looked to see if there was a thread on it or if snopes covered and couldn’t find anything. The video is of a soccer player that is kicked in the side of the head and then spazzes out. He walks backward and does several back flips. The description of the video says his spinal cord was snapped and he died with his body continuing to live for a while. I found an article though, that says he just had a seizure and recovered. He played in a soccer match two weeks later.
Live or dead it still is very freaky to watch. Linky which is SFW but creepy as hell, especially with the music that they inserted into the video.
The Discovery accident? Say what?

When I was young, I’d watch this show (with Robert Stack, IIRC) and it would give me nightmares.
When I was a kid, this show had me so convinced that I would encounter something UNEXPLAINED (or, perhaps, even a MISSING PERSON) that I kept the show’s phone number in the back of my school assignment notebook.
