The Crimson Glyph (Werewolf/Mafia/Psychopath)

Pedescribe, sorry…where do I turn that on? My first go on this board.

NM, I found it, they’re turned on now, thanks and sorry for the trouble.

Click on User CP (top left of the page), click on List Options on the left side and it’s about half way down “Enable Private Messaging” I believe.

DON’T DO IT!

If we allow Town to edit posts, for whatever reason “clarity” “a typo” etc, then we are allowing Scum to edit their posts as well.

And they might not be so nice as to not change things that might make them look Scummy.

S, OTO,OH [Still. on the other, other hand] Your Joke wooshed me.

So uhm. Uh. We basically wait for someone to “say” or ““do”” something and base our vote on those actions. Correct?

That is meant to anyone who wants to answer, not strictly for the Mod. I bet his hands are busy.

His hands are busy?

PEDE! STOP THAT!!! gross
OK, yeah, hello, Meeko, you’re pretty new, eh? Has anyone turned you on to any information about mafia yet?

Yes, I highly suggest we all agree to not edit.

If a scum of either kind goofs up, we don’t want to allow them to edit it out. We should really be careful about that.

Meeko, we publicly vote right here in the thread. It’s definitely an asset to know how people voted.

By the way, anyone given any thought to my questions on the previous page? I asked:

** So what is the primary disadvantage to ostracization? I want to make sure I understand the options.

I’m still figuring these distinctions out. Why would we not ostracize? What does it do? What doesn’t it do? **

I think it’s a pretty good starting point for conversation. Thoughts?

Hey, just checking in.

Confirming receipt of role PM. This is my first game playing, but I’ve watched several others with interest.

A lynch prevents a night action, while an ostracization does not. So if we suspect a person of being a Scum power role, we should lynch, and hope that the hangman decides to pray it off. But if we just suspect someone of being generic Scum, then we should ostracize. I suspect that means that we’ll be mostly just ostracizing, until and unless we get some hard information relatively late in the game.

Depending, of course, on the number of power roles on each side. These literary-themed games usually have named characters for the power roles, right? I’m guessing we have someone on the Sinner side with the role “Hester Prynne”, and someone on the Blackheart side with the role “Roger Chillingworth”, at least. Can anyone who’s read The Scarlet Letter speculate on other roles?

Hello everyone. This is my 4th game, and I am excited at all the interest in Mafia on this board…I recognize very few of you!

Basically, it appears that the disadvantage of ostracizing is that it allows the ostracized party to do a night action that night. Based on the games I have played in and read, it seems relatively rare for scum to have useful individual night actions.

That would imply that the disadvantage of ostracizing is relatively small, and that that should probably be our first choice (unless we have some reason to believe that a particular person is not only scum, but a scum power role). On the other hand, the above might also imply that this is a game where there are more scum power roles than usual.

Ped, am I correct in assuming that ostracized players may use their night action the night after being ostracized, but are then totally out of the game?

Oh yeah, and I totally agree that we should view any editing of posts with extreme suspicion. I will almost certainly vote for any player caught editing a post, the presumption being that he may have done so in order to cover up a scum slip.

Depending.

I am going to put my Noob hat on again here.

But, don’t forget that one option, the last person to vote for it, gets the seed of sin impanted in them, correct?

As I understand it, that’s pretty much -1 for the town. Automatic.

Granted, there are ways to remove it. But if those ways to remove it are also removed in turn…

Hey all, AllWalker here, this is my second Mafia game. But I did pretty well in the last one. Hooray for luck!

Anyway, killing is preferable is we are sure the target is Scum, as it denies them their Night action powers. This comes with the price of Sin, though, but since we don’t know what the Scum Night powers are it may be worth it.

Ostracising is preferable if we are not too sure on a player’s alignment, as ostracised Good Guys can still use their Night powers.

Of course, we will never be certain that any player is Scum, not unless they play badly.

Um…why did you add me to the list? I didn’t want to play unless I got an answer to my question first (which you just answered earlier today).

I wasn’t saying I wanted to play, though.

Whatever, I’ll play, I guess.
Haha, just is so weird how I always seem to be thrown into these games. : p

I’ll also point out that he can look through old games at Idle’s offboard Mafia site here: http://psychopathgame.proboards.com/index.cgi

…to get a feel for mafia as well. The offboard site games are generally more complex than the Dope games.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t plug the “Dope and its tangential communities Mafia Wiki”: http://wiki.flyingcowofdoom.com/mafiaWiki/Main_Page

Oh, and I’m not in the game, so voting for me will accomplish nothing. Really.

ETA: Huh. I was unaware that FCOD had registered another domain for our Wiki. I was thinking that Ed linked to the MafiaScum wiki (another nice source for information, and the community from which the guy who made the sitesled came from, I believe).

Yes, it definitely carries consequence for us townies to kill instead of ostracize. Only if we kill does someone get infected with the Seed of Sin. At least if I’m understanding it, this is the only way to get “sinified”.

I tend to think that ostracization is better early on, because a lot of our decisions will not have confidence early on…unless a scum makes a serious error.

No, the sinners can ‘sinify’ someone as well. I assume that’s their version of a night kill.

Ah, sorry for the error. I think once we play through Day One and Night One, we’ll get a better idea of the game.

So two people can get the Seed of Sin a Day/Night? One from a kill and one from the standard night-time action of the sinners.

Yeesh, so one of us gets killed by the blackheart scums and another one of us gets sinified every night.

Tough game.

Meeko, don’t worry about asking questions. I’ve played before and see how many misunderstandings I have/had about the game?
