The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

I don’t know why. It’s clearly not going to happen. Even if the Democrats take every seat in 2026, I don’t see them impeaching Trump.

Clear to you? Not to me.

The Democrats can’t take every seat in the Senate in 2026. Even if they win every seat that’s being elected in that cycle.

A House impeachment that fails in the Senate will simply make him more powerful in the eyes of his supporters; more grist for the legendary Invincibility of their Mighty Champion.

Ha ha ha ha! That is SO cute! (pinches PhillyGuy’s cheek)

You have such a vivid imagination. Future Elections! Imagine that!

Jokes aside, I do think that the ineptitude of the extreme conservative ones running the elections while trying “to change results” is a good sign that we should not despair.

Democrats Overperform in Florida as They Cruise to Victory in Two Elections - Newsweek

On Tuesday night, RaShon Young and LaVon Bracy Davis won their elections for Florida’s House of Representatives and Senate, respectively. The proportion of the vote they both received was more than what former vice president and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris won in those seats in the November 2024 election.

“Although I wouldn’t pop the champagne corks just yet if I were the Democrats, I would feel a bracing electoral wind at my back,” said Thomas Whalen, an associate professor who teaches U.S. politics at Boston University, about the two Florida elections.

Why do you need to mess with elections when you can challenge their validity to an audience of millions who don’t understand about evidence or analysis, but are very practised in being angry?

What I fear is that the Democrats win, but the Republican mob chooses to believe their preferred reality instead, and mobilizes accordingly.

All the more reason to expect that Trump will do whatever it takes to ensure the elections result in the outcome he wants, regardless of how the electorate voted.

Insurrection II. I didn’t like the first one and don’t want to see pt. II.

Again, you are thinking he will do a lot, he will try, but looking at the idiocy of demanding no mail-in ballots (when a lot of Trump supporters use it) it is clear to me that Trump is cruel and a tyrant, but (paraphrasing Stephen Hawkins) the greatest enemy of Trump is not his ignorance; it is his illusion of knowledge.

Yes. Recognizing that said mob will have been being professionally and continuously lied to about the election for about 4 years prior to it occurring. They’ll be very, very conditioned to believe whatever details they’re ordered to believe.

And that takes one to what we should be fighting for: be ready to organize and counter that before and if it happens.

Of course, LaVon Bracy Davis winning her seat with a 70% margin of victory is not a good ground for the opposition to get a Republican mob going, I haven’t heard about any movements into denying the recent Democratic victories in Florida.

F you DeSantis meathead!

Not now, no. But you are thinking about this whole thing as if evidence and argument matter, as if people will say, “hey, a person I’ve never heard of is reported to have won a seat with a 70% margin of victory in an election I couldn’t be bothered to vote in: well, that is persuasive evidence that this larger, more important election went the way the experts and evidence said it did.”

That post would be more impressive, if it was not Florida. We are talking here about the states more capable of changing results and calling mobs.

IIRC, in special low voter elections, conservatives usually have the edge in Red States.
While the county of LaVon Bracy Davis had the Democrats holding a 12-point voter registration lead, the results mean that they got not only most of the democrats, but most of the independents and a good number of Republicans that are fed up too.

Round One victory or kicking the can down the road…

Trump Administration Live Updates: Judge Rules Fired Fed Member Can Remain in Seat

A federal judge late Tuesday temporarily blocked President Trump from removing Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, allowing her to continue serving as she contests her recent dismissal.

Last month, Mr. Trump tried to fire Ms. Cook over allegations that she falsified documents related to her mortgages.

The decision from Judge Jia M. Cobb of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dealt the Trump administration its first blow in what is likely to be a lengthy legal battle over the president’s ability to remove a Fed official “for cause,” a term generally understood to mean professional neglect or wrongdoing.

The Trump administration is likely to appeal the ruling. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The judge’s order means that Ms. Cook will be able to cast a vote when the Fed gathers for its next two-day meeting, which begins on Sept. 16. The central bank is expected to restart interest rate cuts that have been on hold since January, most likely reducing borrowing costs a quarter point.

I just happened to read about that attempt to stack the votes. It was in the Chicago Tribune which, I must admit, I don’t normally view.

What struck me was the phrasing from tRump’s lawyers, who are suggesting Cook’s action prior to taking office “indisputably calls into question Cook’s trustworthiness and whether she can be a responsible steward…”

How can they manage to write that without snickering over their own hypocrisy? They think tRump was a responsible steward by bankrupting every company he’s led, by dodging his presidential responsibility to at least learn basic biology when a globally widespread disease was rampaging through his constituency, by (okay, maybe not directly inciting) encouraging rioting in Washington DC?!?

–G!!!

Let me die in the smoke and flames.

Or wake me when it’s over.

$10 Million in Contraceptives Have Been Destroyed on Orders From Trump Officials

The birth control pills, IUDs and hormonal implants were purchased by U.S.A.I.D. for women in low-income countries. They had been in limbo in a Belgian warehouse after the U.S. cut much of its foreign aid.

Millions of dollars’ worth of birth control pills and other contraceptives destined for people in low-income countries have been destroyed at the direction of the Trump administration, the United States Agency for International Development said on Thursday.

The pills, intrauterine devices and hormonal implants, valued at about $9.7 million, had been purchased by the agency before it was largely dismantled earlier this year. They had been stuck in a warehouse in Belgium for months, since the State Department said that contraception was not “lifesaving” and that the United States would no longer fund the purchase of birth control products for low-income nations.

Internal State Department and U.S.A.I.D. documents and correspondence obtained by The New York Times show that several international organizations, including the Gates Foundation and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, had offered to buy or accept a donation of the contraceptives. The government would have incurred no costs or might have even been able to recoup taxpayer funds under those scenarios.

Instead the administration decided to proceed with destroying the products, an operation that was estimated to cost $167,000.

My bold.

I’m shocked we didn’t see a curiously limited run of Trump™ Brand Contraceptives.

Hearing today that most workers at a nearby mushroom farm were coming down with COVID, I went to this web site to see if I could order free test kits, as in the past:

www.COVIDtests.gov

It redirected me to a President Donald J. Trump web page titled, in giant letters, LAB LEAK (that being the least plausible COVID origin hypothesis) and filled with attacks on Anthony Fauci and Andrew Cuomo (the latter of whom I would have thought Trump would go easy on due to liking him for the NYC mayor’s race)..

Not long ago, the administration destroyed products that were lifesaving - high-energy biscuits intended to feed severely malnourished children in third-world countries - rather than distribute them or even allow other countries to distribute them.

The Trump administration doesn’t give a damn about saving lives.

Those little babies were going to grow up to be illegal immigrants, so best to nip that problem in the bud. /s

Anyway:
