The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

You can quite clearly see in the video that the driver reverses back, swinging the front wheels left, as you would do if you then intended to drive off to the right. The driver then swings the front wheels to the right and moves forward, again being consistent with driving off to the right. This clearly shows there was no intent to endanger the ICE ‘agents’, in fact the opposite surely as they were clearly intending to drive away from them. For one of the ICE agents to interpret this as an immediate threat to life is mind boggling. At the most generous it shows a complete failure of training (if they get any at all), at worst it’s cold blooded murder.

Yes. And, Ms. Good was surely preoccupied with dealing with the other ICE Nazi who was trying to open her door. She may not have seen the murderer In front of the corner of her car. In any case, he needed only to take one step to the right to avoid the car touching him — which he did indeed do, which is why he was obviously uninjured as he walked around after killing her.

Plus, three shots? The last two while she was clearly driving away? I’m reminded of those who opine that Hiroshima was necessary, but Nagasaki was a war crime.

Perhaps not the thread to ask this, but what is with LEOs standing in front of cars, and shooting the drivers when they try to drive off. IIRC, this happened somewhat recently in the shooting of a suspected shoplifter. IIalsoRC, that shooter was not found criminally accountable.

The persons protesting and standing up against ICE are true heroes, placing themselves at considerable risk.

“It will look cool like it does on television”

They interviewed a retired cop… an expert, in any case… on the morning news today (KING5, Seattle). He said that if you don’t want to get run over, then don’t stand in front of a vehicle. ‘It’s the police equivalent of “Don’t run with scissors.”’

Seems like common sense. Unfortunately, that cannot be expected of many LEOs - and especially ICE.

Heard another commentator observing that DHS policy was to not shoot at moving vehicles - again, for the many commonsensical reasons.

What an ugly country we have become. I admit that I wondered exactly how much one administration - however venal and lawless - could harm our country. Perhaps I lacked imagination, but this administration has greatly exceeded my worst fears.

A side note - I’m a federal employee and was just notified that I will be receiving a 1% pay raise this year. No big deal, tho it is the smallest in some time and does not cover inflation. But the explanation somewhat grated - (paraphrase) it was low reflecting spending priorities. Oh yeah - and certain LEOs got a larger raise.

Yes, several experts have noted that many jurisdictions explicitly tell officers NOT to stand in front of a vehicle. Note that in this case, the vehicle was not moving when the shooter apparently walked in front of it.

And as has also been noted, many jurisdictions have explicit rules against shooting into a car (presumably there’s an exception for ‘someone in the car is actively shooting bystanders from inside the car’).

Noem continued to lie in a press conference today. She is still asserting things such as that the woman was actively using her vehicle to hit officers, and that she is definitely, no investigation needed, a “domestic terrorist.”

JD Vance has continued to make similar noises:

It’s reasonable to assume that this ICE agent received virtually no training.

I agree that it’s reasonable, but today the claim was made by Liar Noem that the guy has ten years of experience. Whether that’s ten years in ICE or ten years in law enforcement, she didn’t say.

They will never admit how irresponsible they are being (in recruiting questionable people and failing to vet or train them).

(The quote comes from about half-way down this page of results.)

They shot two more people in Portland today. Have they just been instructed to shoot anybody what doesn’t immediately obey them?

Or it could be as boring as ten years of pushing paper in a government office. You’re right; she didn’t say.

Ten years of being a violent, racist arsehole, perhaps? Actually no, silly me, that’s unlikely to be true. Ten years is nowhere near long enough.

Ten years of getting paid for it.

I doubt they had to be instructed to do that. It’s why they joined ICE in the first place.

To be fair, I believe the Portland shooting was CPB, not ICE. Pretty much the same crowd, though CPB is not normally quite as lawless and militaristic.

Enforcing the border with…Washington state?

I don’t know what the scope of their jurisdiction is, but I’ve seen several different news reports all saying it was CPB. For example:

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol shot and injured two people in Portland late Thursday, police said, spurring protests that sent hundreds into the streets even as local authorities scrambled to get answers themselves.
Portland awaits answers after Border Patrol wounds two people in shooting - OPB

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent shot and wounded two people in the city of Portland on Thursday afternoon.
US Border agent shoots, wounds two people in Portland that DHS says are gang members

Sorry – I didn’t intend to dispute the facts, which you stated perfectly well. I was rolling my eyes at the overextended power (geographically and otherwise) that this government (and previous ones) has afforded the CBP.

It’s never reasonable to assume.

In theory, the Pacific Ocean being nearby authorizes Border Patrol activity.
