Pretty sure once they leave the shore properly, they’re out on their own.
I once spent an afternoon playing with some adorably nosy baby NZ fur seal pups, about the same size. They were hanging around in a canal, and tried to steal my sandwiches. 
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a camera with me.

Honestly, one of the things that cheered me up when I was really down. Was watching episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
It’s like 22 minutes of happiness applied directly to the eyeballs. YMMV
What a stubborn little stowaway! Like the wildlife version of the pet that picks you at the shelter.
Otters are just as cute and don’t get nearly as big as sea lions. This video of otters holding hands nearly always makes me feel better, and if it doesn’t work I watch this one of otters chasing a butterfly.
