The CW's Riverdale (open spoilers)

I have staff for shows like this.

Thing 2: “I watched a few minutes and it ruined Archie comics for me.”

I will forward that to my superior, Wife, who considers “Betty and Veronica” comics sickness brain(less) food.

The COC must be followed.

Riverdale s1s6 “Faster Pussycats kill kill”

Best title ever.

Nice ploy at breakfast with Jughead. Good thing Alice could be counted on to insist on escorting him to the bathroom and Dad could be counted on to… be elsewhere. They finally took my advice to follow the paper trail. Does Betty never check the mail, or does the institution send evoices?

I am though, legit liking the Bughead team regardless of Jugs comic-self asexuality. Not sure how invested I am in that controversy. At this juncture tho it’s moot.

Wow Archie really croaked. I thought it was a dream sequence. Then all the teen wolves showed up and I was sure. But nope no dream.

“Scooby gang” FTW.

Sisters of Quiet Mercy couldn’t sound any creepier.

Diva time. Of course the pussy cats need to get into a cat fight lol.

And once again Veronica is drawn like a magnet to every occasion of her Mom acting naughty.

Archie was insensitive but it still comes off somehow as manufactured drama. Hey, Veronica and Valerie switch places.

LOL at “Ginger Judas”.

Why does Betty make some sort of micro adjustment to her pony tail to prep herself for the psych ward? Is that the female non-brute version of the neck crack?

LOL at “Garden of Deliverance”.

Creepy nuns are creepy.

“You found us”? Is Polly MPD too? Oh “us”, like pregnant lol. You called it, folks. Stash Polly away until the baby can be quietly adopted. Pretend she is on a mental health vacation. Hope the Blossoms don’t find out.

She seems normal at first but then its hard to tell if she is normal grieving upset, or slightly unhinged.

Creepy guards are creepy.

Josie’s Dad seemed intimidating by description and meeting him doesn’t help. Bad Myles! Calling her out on the “integrity of music” and Fred as “gentrified”. Daaaamnn…

I guess Veronica counts as a woman of color.

Finally, Betty calls out her Dad as a suspect. Psych out as Alice sobs…nope… mock laughs. Hah. Well played. We know the Dad did the break in, but why if he and his wife are innocent?

LOL at “electric Dylan at a film concert”.

Hey Bughead gets to kissing. But what is a “yellow wallpaper moment”? Where is my pop culture glossary? Is gaslighting next?

The Cats make up. But Ronnie isn’t out of the band! Interesting. Love “I Feel Love”.

Of course the car is behind a Blossom billboard. Slight BTTF vibe. Wow, lots of drugs. Maybe that got him killed. But wait, how is his letter jacket in the car when Archie gave it to Jason’s mom at the funeral? Or was that his uniform. I’m confused. In any case why weren’t the jacket and car reported missing? And who is watching and how did they know to follow Bughead?

Wow, Myles is a major twatwaffle. Walking out halfway through his daughter’s song. Cold. If I were the mayor I would divorce him on the spot.

Another ship starting kiss with… Valerchie? Archery? Ooh I like when they make real words lol. I do like this ship tho. Now we just have to hook up Ronnie and Kevin. Just not with each other. Or Reggie. Recommendations?

Wow Veronica found out about multiple bad things her Mom did this episode. And with “you won” sound like she’s gearing up for war…Will she take it out on Archie?

Devastated Josie :frowning: At least her Mom is comforting her.

Car fire! Rescue attempt! Missing Polly! A lot to work with narratively.

Next week: Jughead and Dad, likely lawyer fakeout. Stay tuned…

Did the writers just put all names in a hat and draw to see who they would pair together like the lamest key party ever?

Kevin: Moose
Betty: Jughead
Archie: Josie
Archie: Fake!Grundy
Mr Andrews: Mrs Lodge

I full expect Lil Jinx to show up next week paired with Dilton.

The Yellow Wallpaper” is a short story about a man who gaslights his wife by forcing her to go on “the rest cure” in a room with yellow wallpaper. She didn’t start out crazy, but she ended up that way.

I was really impressed that they’d drop a reference like that without explaining it.

When Jughead’s narration said something about “what is Polly doing now?,” my comment to the spouse, based on the lingering shot of the bloody window shards, was “Bleeding out somewhere, apparently.”

Loved that they used the cheesy Pussycat outfits and logo from the comics, BTW!

It’s actually Archie: Valerie…and that’s canon in the comics. He did/does have a relationship with her.

I agree with the others, though.

This episode established once and for all that Josie and the Pussycats play their own songs exclusively, with the only exception of everywhere all the time.

did they show the actual singer wasn’t Josie it was the black chick? even tho in the cartoon Josie was the lead?

What do you mean? All three members of the Pussycats in the show are black (plus Veronica). In the comics, Josie was white.

Points, Borborygmi.

I made the same mistake above, which you corrected. In the comics, the Val was the only black Pusseycat and also the only black person in the extended Pusseycat gang. In the show the Pusseycats are all Black, and that’s part of their image; moreover Val is confusingly played by a very fair skinned actress with auburn hair and blue eyes, so I can see where people can mix them up.

This has been an ongoing frustration with Josie for me…they could have at least performed an original song, or at least a cover that addressed issues of being a woman of colour, before having her say that. (Candy Girl might possibly have been intended to be a Josie and the Pussycats original in-universe (it’s actually an Inner Circle song), since Sugar Sugar’s existence in universe becomes hard to explain, but unless Josie’s a wlw, it doesn’t address issues that she faces at all, and even then in only a very basic ‘hey, look, I like girls and am not ashamed of it’ way.)

 Where are you getting that any of the kids are 15? Certainly not from the comics, or the show, both of which are unclear about the ages, but are necessarily 16+, since driving is a big thing, or the actors, the youngest of whom is 19 year old KJ Apa (at least among those I could get an age for - not sure about Camila Mendes or Ashleigh Murray). 17 and 18 year old seniors much better fit the facts of the show than anything younger.

Responding only to the show itself - Josie’s attitude is explained, but still annoying…but I put more blame on her dad than on her. Her mom comes out looking better than she has before, and Fred and Hermione, while still the best parents who have any focus, look a little worse (Unless Hiram is OK with Hermione stepping out). (Sheriff Keller is quickly gaining on them.)

I’m getting more convinced that Hal and Alice Cooper were behind what happened to Jason. Probably mostly Alice, with Hal just trailing behind cleaning up after her.

I believe they’re supposed to be 16-year-old sophomores. Which seems weird to me, since if that’s so and Polly is 2 years older than Betty and therefore an adult, how are her parents keeping her shut up with the Creepy Sisters of Mercy? Can you do that with an adult?

In the first episode, it’s stated a couple of times that they’re juniors. Which doesn’t help explain the Polly thing, but I wanted to clear up their ages.

It’s been renewed for a 2nd season. I was surprised at how quickly Polly’s pregnancy came out into the open. Is it just me or are Mmes. Blossom & Cooper a lot creepier when they’re playing nice? And how exactly does the latter think they can put the baby up for adoption without the Blossoms getting custody now that they know? :dubious: They’re the biological grandparents and they have more money than the coopers.

Archie, Jughead, Polly, Veronica, & Kevin are all in the same grade and that’s 10th grade. Cheryl is a junior & Jason would’ve been one. Polly’s a junior too, and she can’t be any older than 17 or her being “in the care of the Sisters” doesn’t make any sense. Archie was specifically said to be a sophomore; which is why him being put on the varsity squad instead of junior varsity was a big deal. Sixteen year-old sophomores aren’t usual, but at the start of the school year most would still only be 15. Archie and/or Jughead would defiantly have to have turned 16 before July given that they were going on a road trip. Regardless a 16 year old Veronica being a corporate officer isn’t any less weird that a 15 year old Veronica.

Riverdale S1E7 In a Lonely Place

Interesting title - “In a Lonely Place is a 1950 film noir directed by Nicholas Ray, and starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame[…].Bogart stars as Dixon Steele, a troubled screenwriter suspected of murder and Grahame co-stars as Laurel Gray, a neighbor who falls under his spell.”

Craazy ass dream sequence! I like the nods to the comic book fashion especially the creepy whoopee cap (except for Betty’s hair), and how Jughead got a modern take on his infamous S shirt when awake. Love the bowtie and plaid pants…

Finally we see where he is crashing, in a little closet ala Harry Potter, and finally his friends figure out his situation. Cool that Archie is cool with him being with Betty.

Jughead’s Dad looks a lot like him. Good casting.

LOL @ “Honestly, guys, we should just move.”

I thought for sure there was no way in hell they would ever tell the Blossoms about the baby. Of course they would try anything to take the baby!

Polly seems less crazy in this episode.

That was some pretty slim ass reasoning to bring Jughead in for questioning. He has an alibi for both the car fire and the murder board.

All the nods and parallels to when the parents hung out together were nice. But I don’t quite get the timeline. J & A’s dads started a business together but then Fred took over…but J’s dad was still working for him despite? But then later was fired for real? Don’t quite get it…

And how does Fred not already know that J’s dad is in the gang?

LOL @ “FredHeads”

Nice also to hear about mom and JellyBean… no mention of Hot Dog tho.

Holy press conference Batman!

I expected the scene where the Coopers and Blossoms meet in the woods to go a bit more like Needful Things…

Cool that Cheryl stuck up for Polly over her parents. I’m surprised they didn’t have authorities swoop in the they saw her the first time.

Club night is fun. I guess everyone has fake IDs now. Where is Kevin’s gang boy bf/fb? I keep confusing Moose and Reggie for some reason.

Classic shoo the dog scene where dad tells Jughead to stay with Archie.

Why did Jughead not notice Jason’s jacket in his closet?

Next week… hmmm

Oh, and it’s renewed for season 2~!

I hear episode 10 is a zinger, getting close!

Sure hope the series is on hiatus for this week and next week. Because it wasn’t on tonight in my area nor do I see it next week’s listings.

It is. They said that at the end of last week’s show. I think they said it would be back at the end of the month.

BTW, it was renewed for season 2!

so… if I’m not mistaken they gang said they were sophomores in high school? You generally start 9th grade when you’re 15. Over the summer break Archie sleeps with Ms Grundy? How scandalous that a 15 y/o is sleeping with her teacher. It makes me wonder if Riverdale is in Florida or Texas.
Also I’m not wowed bye Camila Mendes as the casting choice for Veronica Lodge.

Sophomore = 10th grade, and most sophomores are 15 yrs old at the start of the year with the odd 16 yr old (& occasionally a 14 yr old).

The Blossoms came off as less screwed up than the Coopers this week. Next week, the Blossoms’ creepy family holiday in honor of their bloodline. Bit of a shame about Kevin’s boyfriend though.
