The daffodils are blooming!

It’s been a cold winter here in northern Mississippi. Usually we have a couple of cold spells where it gets cold for a few days, and then it warms back up. This year it got cold (20s) before Christmas, and it’s stayed cold (30s). I noticed in mid-January that the daffodil shoots were up – every year I’m surprised at how early they come up, but this year was the earliest I remember, and it made no sense at all.

Two weeks ago the crocuses, hyacinths and quince bloomed. WTF? It’s cold! It may very well freeze again.

This morning I saw the first daffodil bloom, and a lot of yellow buds are ready to unfurl.

Either spring is here or the spring flowers have lost their minds.

Yay! Daffodils!

I woke up sunday morning to bird song, first time I recalled hearing a bird sing since before winter. It was cool.

I have decided to leave you forever
I have decided to start things from here
Thunder and lightning won’t change
What I’m feeling

And the daffodils look lovely today

Denver, CO: My tulips, Irises, Daffodils & Crocussessess are all sprouting already. Don’t the silly things know March & April are the snow months around here?

That’s beautiful, Inigo Montoya. Did you write it?

Also, "crocussessess "! That’s like banana and queue – I know how to spell them, I just don’t always know when to stop.

You kidding? For spite & irony like that you gotta import it from The Emerald Isle.

My peeps are from Byhalia. Where is your house parked?

What would spring be like withoutThe Imbeciles.

Close enough that I often have a hard time getting the jingle for Byhalia Tire and Battery (honk honk) out of my head.

I thought these things came up based on light, not heat.

There’s a chruch near my house that has a zillion very early crocuses on it’s front lawn. I drive by it frequently at this time of year for a lift of the spirits.
