The days are getting longer in the MMP

They’re pretty much ex-people by that stage, but you do have a good point.

Well the storm hit for about an hour in a half and we had hail/ice and the 50 mph winds as promised but its supposed to be all night but I think it will just be windy and drizzle but its supposed to actually snow tomorrow …

there’s a cartoony video game where you hurl old-timey insults as an initiation to get in the pirate ship you need to invade and one of the insults was " your mother was such a low character had more gentlemen callers than a 1920s switchboard operator " I laughed but I declined to explain to the 8-year-old nephew who was playing the game with me

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Up early again, but then I have to be, since I’ve got the babby today. I got an email last night that my glasses are ready for pickup - a week sooner than I expected - so once I return the child to his mother this afternoon, I’ll go get my specs. That’s pretty much my plans for today.

It rained overnight and it’s nearly 60 out there right now, headed to near 70 today, before we get whomped with cold again. This weather roller coaster is annoying. Someone needs to do something about it, dammit! :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Wednesday anyway!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 59 Amurrkin out with fog, we are under a DENSE FOG ADVISORY this mornin’. Today we shall procure comestibles for the big activity. Sup shall be shrimpies 'n grits, and bacon wrapped spareguts.

shades I like that insult and must find a way to use it soonest.

doggio St. Arnold of Soissons would be a good name for a Luterun church as they do like their beer.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, woe and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire. How I do suffer!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning everyone.

It’s a very cold 20 degrees outside with an expected high of 40. It’s also dry and clear, so the temp will drop for a bit as the sun comes up, before the temps rise today. The director lives way north on Whidbey Island and will not be making the long trek down south today because they were slammed with snow, ice and winds. Down here, we received nothing but the winds.

So, the cable guy came and went and the problem is not my house. It’s the underground cable that goes to my house and they have now put in a ticket to get a new cable installed and buried.

I will be ridiculously busy at work and have another day filled with meetings. Fun times.

I hope you all have a terrific Wednesday.

Well, he spent the night. My legs are tired, and I already need a nap (though it’s not quite 8:30 a.m.)

That’s hilarious.

Morning all. Need to dress and get my lawn mower this morning, cloudy and cooler today but the rain has apparently moved on, so that is good. Garbage needs to go out tonight, probably won’t be picked up until Firday due to the holiday, but better safe than sorry. Swimming will get in there sometime.

shoe, suspect you’ll be napping with a smile on your face…

Taters, hope the cable can be replaced without too much digging. I’ve got lines on my property with gas and water lines marked, so I’m worried things are going to get dug up here.

OK, onward into the day. All y’all take care.

They’ll be sending out a crew to determine where the gas, water and power lines are before they do any digging.

Afternoon, mumpers! I am having a day full of pointless meetings. I managed to cancel one that I was meant to be running, on the grounds that it could easily be done by email. And it was. I emailed all my updates to the team, they have had nothing to say. Also had two other meetings this morning and attended a zoom session so I could hear our new VC pontificate about stuff. He is an excellent pontificator and would have a great future in politics as he managed to bleat a lot but not answer a single question.

In slightly more promising news, Shadow survived the vet visit! He suffered the indignity of a thermometer up his bum, got poked and prodded, and had some blood taken before he was allowed to go home again. They rang back a couple of hours later with the results which are very good, but don’t tell us much. All his bloodwork is within normal ranges for a cat of his age (he’s 18 at least), his major organs are functioning perfectly so there are no worries there. He has some redness in his mouth which they think is inflammation rather than infection so they have been able to rule out all the worst things that could be wrong with him. They’ve given us Metacam which is good, because he loves the stuff! That should help with the pain and inflammation, and that in turn should get him eating again.

We went grocery shopping so I took the chance to buy him some very expensive but very soft food which he should be able to eat without causing too much pain, and we’ll get as much medication into him as we can. The vet said if the Metacam doesn’t work, they will look at anti-biotics instead but hopefully this stuff will sort him out and we’ll have our lovely little boy back again. They are concerned that he’s lost 1.5kg in weight since September but can’t exactly say why. Fingers and paws crossed that he starts to pick up now.

I got up to urinate about 20 minutes ago. (Man, I hate it when I have to get up minutes before my 06:00 alarm!) Since it was close to time to get up, I thought I’d turn up the furnace. I turn it down to 60º before bed, since we don’t need to heat the whole house when we’re in bed. I turned it up to 65º. No matter what the setting, no matter if it’s blowing, Wifey will turn it up anyway. I’ve told her that turning up the thermostat doesn’t do anything when the heater’s already ‘kicked on’, and certainly not when it’s already blowing. There was no familiar ‘click’ of the thermostat. I turned it all the way on. Nothing. Uh-oh. I put ono some clothes and slippers, grabbed a flashlight, and walked over the frozen-solid lawn to the propane tank. Completely empty. We’re not on a schedule, but the propane company is pretty good about coming around before people run out.

It’s 50º in the house (more than twice as warm as outside!) and I’ve started a fire.

25F this morning, and the rest of the week isn’t looking much better. Normal temps for this time of year are around 50.

My new best friend leaves today. He took everything we could give him and asked for more, but all good things must end. Farewell, Skippy.

Today I go pick up my new glasses at Costco and get my nuts re-torqued.

Making some pecan sticky buns later.

Morning, all. Lots of rain overnight, and just a touch of snow. The BBQ had a white blanket on it when I got up to pee around 2am. Alas, 'twas all gone by the time I dragged my butt into the shower. At least at my place - looking up the mountain behind me I see nothing but white. that’s going to go quite a way towards keeping our wells pumping all summer. I hope.

In meaningless but fun news, our Girl’s Water Polo team won the CIF Southern Region Championships and yesterday dominated in their first State play-off game. This school is more known for baseball and softball, so a water polo championship would be awesome! We shall see how they do tonight.

Stay warm and dry, peeps. It’s still winter out there.

They totalled my car, and are offering $2,924 after my $500 deductible.

I declined. I had the hybrid battery refurbished three or four years ago ($1,500). In November I got four new tires ($350 or so). Last month I got two new headlamps for $160 each ($320).

So the irreg belt was backed up, and the Senior Shouting officers were really screaming. But it meant more hours for me. I love screw ups.

When the cable company did that here, they managed to blow up the power line, and the electric company had to bring in a 3 inch thick, 200 yard extension cord for a week. Hope your’s goes better

How do they keep the horse from drowning?

Flyboy, brrrrrrrrrr… And I’d just put in a new cat, and not move to California.

Yay for Shadow being mostly OK!

About patron saints, I think I would go for this guy, St. Honoratus of Amiens

Good for you. Your co-workers no doubt appreciated your effort.

That’s good news! :smiley_cat:

D’OH!

I … missed something? (Can’t tell if you were fostering a pet, perhaps?)

Bad planning on someone’s part or a leak? In any case - BRRRRR! Hope the fire keeps the house warm enough until you get a refill.

We had a dumpster out front for all the crap we’re getting rid of. I named it Skippy because the British call these things “skips”.
