Oh My Fucking God…it finally happened!!!
Oh wow. Talk about timing. I woke up to get ready for work tonight and turned on the TV just in time to see the last pitch. I called my mom, but all I could hear was screaming.
28 years is finally?!
Good job Phillies, they certainly were the better team.
What’s the over/under on the property damage tonight?
For a city that has had to listen to that stupid curse of Billy Penn for so long…yes…FINALLY!!!
There was a small bit of me that began to believe it. Silly I know.
Oh, my god, it actually happened. The Phillies won the World Series. This is such a strange feeling.
A strange, wonderful, magnificent, splendid, all-around awesome, stupendously grand feeling.
Congratulations, Phillies!
you do know they put tiny little penn statues on the top floor of the tallest bldg. to help offset the curse, right?
airman doors, i’m not sure… but from the pictures on channel 17 news the streets of the northeast are flooded with humans. south philly must be a mad house as well.
AWESOME!
YAY PHILLIES! Even my Mom’s small street was pandemonium! Cars beeping. Pots banged on. Lots of PHILLIES #1 Chants! FUN FUN FUN! Yay
Great Series Rays!
Terrific Games for the Phils. AWESOME. Yay! SO SUPER Glad circumstances made it so I could be in Philly for it! LUCKY!
World Series Champs! 80 - 08!!!
i couldn’t say it any better. GO PHILLY’S!
Posh. I root for a team that hasn’t SEEN the Series for 63 years! Which hasn’t WON the Series in 100 years.
Philly is a batch of damn recent repeaters by comparison.
Congrats, Phillies.
Yeah, but your city hasn’t gone for 98 (I think?) pros ports seasons without a championship, have they? Anyway, there is nothing in the world that can bring Phillies fans down tonight! Seriously - I literally have not stopped grinning since that final pitch. I’ve waited my whole damn life for this, no joke.
The PHilly Fox affiiliate had a webcam aimed at Broad St. (now at the sky or something), and it was just wall-to-wall people.
I’m the only Phillies fan out here, so I’m celebrating by drinking. And eating TastyKakes my parents sent me!
I’m very happy for Jamie Moyer
Congrats, Phillies!
I am so thrilled to see all the interviews with Jamie Moyer! How awesome for him to come back to his home town and get a WS ring. He gives a great interviews. Seems like an excellent human off the field. And, to top it all off he kicked ass in his start.
I am still walking on air. Thinking about heading to the parade on Friday. What a great night.
Tasty Kakes are a perfect way to celebrate Ninja Chick Great Choice!
It’s still real, right? That actually happened last night? There are no mulligans or suddenly remembered rule changes that are going to allow Bud Selig to steal this one back? Because I am telling you right now: if I have to, I will cash in my 401(k) to send Jamie Moyer, his family, and the World Series trophy to some banana republic with no extradition treaty, just to keep it out of enemy hands.
Ah, nobody was talking about that stat before this year. No one I heard, at least. But by many historical measures the Phillies have been worse than the Cubs - the Cubs have won the Series more times, for one thing. The Cubs were just smart enough to make winlessness part of their sales pitch.
Congrats to the Phillies. This wasn’t how I saw this series going down but they earned it.
To the above: the Phillies won the Series in 1980 and the Sixers won in 1983, so it’s not like no Philadelphia team has won anything in living memory. And this second Series win now ties them with the Cubs (and, um, the Marlins).
But anyway, I was rooting for the cold-weather hard-luck NL team all the way, glad to see they made it.
Congrats Phillies!!
It’s still totally real. Apparently both the Inquirer and Daily News are printing a second run of today’s paper, because they were entirely sold out.
And yeah, if anyone in all of baseball deserves that ring, it’s gotta be Moyer.
Broad Street was a madhouse last night. Cars overturned; people climbing on poles, streetlights, even moving van; huge mass of people celebrating in the streets etc. It was almost impossible to have a normal conversation anywhere because of all the noise of the celebration. Also not many people were injured last night, and none seriously, thankfully.
I was born a few months after the Sixers won in 1983, so I’ve literally been waiting my entire life for this. Go Phils!
I was 12 the last time the Phillies won the World Series. I have not had a championship my entire adult life. What a great night, and o you know what? This might not be their last!
