My fledgling quartet sang together tonight (first time with new lead) - we sound pretty damned good!
Yay for Pie’s new space!
Other than that, blurf.
All others (and Pie), please refer to my sig
I am going to try to get to sleep early (like before midnight)
I bought a new dryer today, delivered Sunday. The Canes fired their coach, and replaced him with the guy he replaced. :dubious:
W00T!!! Pie
Yay for Pie, how exciting! Pics as soon as it’s all set up, of course…
Well, Himself is starting his training tomorrow and he just finally figured out today that he’s totally unprepared–we’ve been out getting hardware and swapping data around on hard drives in order to get him the most reliable 250GB SATA drive for his boot drive–he’s going to partition it for an XP and a Vista dual boot, but his current Vista install is circling the drain badly and can’t be trusted for shit. I also had to go all over hell’s half acre to find a VGA cable since the new employee packet says he needs to have at least a 17" monitor and he was running with a dinky little 15" so we needed the cable to get another old inherited monitor up and usable. They’ve also had a delay in delivering his VOIP box so he might need to call in for the beginning of training with his cell phone–I checked our minutes and we had like 6 left, with four days left on our bill cycle! So I just sweettalked a rep into giving his line a bunch of bonus minutes so we don’t get the big old surprise bill…
Is it Friday yet? :D:smack:
Ooh, I scored a nice little 10 megapixel camera for Grandboy’s Solstice present–I don’t do Christmas and generally bypass any and all gifting, but this year he’s going on a cruise with some other grandparents to Catalina and Mexico so he’s going to need a good camera to take lots of pictures. And it was an incredibly good price for a decent point/shoot–3x optical, 4x digital zoom, smart flash and pretty flexible, for eighty bucks. Score! Fry’s rulez…
Yr welcome, Herbs, and yeah that sounds like WAY too much fat for the amounts of sugar and flour. I don’t measure much, but with 4 T of butter I’d probably be using 1/4-1/2 C sugars and 1/2-2/3 C roughly of flour. It’s like pie crust, a very little butter goes a LOOOOONG way, it’s all about getting it properly combined so it will work correctly.
I’m tired… Oh yeah, one more tidbit on the doggie front–both pups have successfully caught an in-flight frisbee, yay! Now we’re working on trying to keep them from tug-of-warring it to death on the “bring it back” part…
Yay Pie!
Okay. This is getting ridiculous. We still have no snow. The long-range (as in a week ahead) forecasts look good, but those are also entirely unreliable. At least it’s getting cold, finally. Tonight? They’re saying it’s going to get down to something like 9F. Thanks, Canada! Now send some snow, please?
I had a lengthy post bitching about my job – well, not my job, but the company is hurting and it’s starting to affect us – but I think I’ll leave the details out. Except that raises are totally disallowed for the foreseeable future, and I was due for my review in a week or two. At least I have a job, and my Totally Awesome Boss will take care of it ASAP. And I’m glad I have a job, and also that I’m in what would be one of the last department to get hit by cuts, and that I have a bit of seniority there.
Otherwise everything’s fine. Ooh, doggio, a new dryer? I’m jealous! WANT!
Assorted hugs, yays, boos as appropriate. I think I’m going to head to bed soonish.
Yay for new dryers! We love our new dryer. And washer. Well, I love the washer – Papa Tigs claims he can’t add enough bleach to get his whites properly white. Does anybody know how to put a whole bunch more bleach into a front-loader than the little cup thingy will hold? Because it holds about 2 tsp and he likes to use a lot more. (Me, I don’t do bleach, ever, so I’m no help.)
And yay, Pie! Although I was apparently absent when you described whatever it is you’re going to be doing, so if someone could clue me in, it would be nice to know what I’m cheering for.
I’m beginning to worry about this hat I’m knitting for my SIL for Christmas – it’s exactly on gauge, but it just seems so BIG. At this point I’m far enough along in it that I might as well finish it and then see; if it’s truly too big, I might keep it myself (since I have an annoyingly huge head) and knit another one for her since I have enough time. Although it would take downsizing on needles at least 2 sizes, which could make knitting interesting. And create a virtually bulletproof fabric. (Which isn’t all bad for a warm winter hat for someone who lives out in the country on the plains there in southern Idaho, right next to a reservoir, so that the wind not only sweeps across the plains but has that nice water to get even colder blowing over – frankly, I don’t know how she does it!) We shall see. I’m hoping to get it done this weekend, as long as that annoying thing called work doesn’t interfere too much.
Anyway, off to do a bit more and then give up for the night. It’s all yours, night shift!
Cool beans, Pie! Actually I tend to prefer my beans warm, but for some reason the expression has them cold, oh well.
Mama Tigs, Pie is going to set up an outlet where she’s going to sell semi-cooked stuff (like cookie dough mixes) and cooked stuff and, well, apparently fish-shaped earrings too :D. Who knows, sometime we may be seeing Pie Outlets in New York and Barcelona…
Mork, MathGirl does 0-to-infinity-indignation in minus-time seconds quite well, specially now that we’re all used to each other. As NoWeddingGirl said, “she can do non-euclidean speeds cos she’s a mathematician” (the rest of us are engineers, except for Heboss who is a physicist). Her response to Sheboss was “well, I’m sorry but it happens to be to check up my tits after I had a bump taken out last year, which turned out to be nothing but I have a family history of cancer, and I realize they aren’t particularly great tits but they’re the ones I have and I’m kind’a attached to them. And if you’re not going to pay me for a given day’s work, please let me know in advance and I’ll directly skip coming. Thank you! :D” A shark would have cowered, begged and tried to put his tail between his fins: Sheboss claimed it was a joke and we informed her that it was not fun and therefore no joke.
One of the advantages of the setup we have for the next few months is that she’ll be half the time in each location and that means we’ll have her off our backs half the time. Plus Heboss (who outranks her because his paycheck is signed directly by the client) has told her to please only check up on people once a day and preferably by email, rather than calling every single person and freaking out if someone doesn’t answer (we leave our phones on our desks, when we have meetings).
Morning all. Just spent my morning alternating between entertaining HRH and baking a Sticky Date Pudding with Caramel Sauce. Why, you ask, would I be baking first thing on a Friday morning? Well, to begin at the beginning, hubby mentioned to me on Monday that his sister (let’s call her S) and her new husband were inviting all the family over for lunch on Friday. Fast forward to 4pm on Thursday afternoon, when I get a phone call from S, telling me that I had been allocated dessert as a course. So, we aren’t actually invited to lunch, we are invited to a lunchtime pot-luck, of sorts, with less than 24 hours notice that I need to cook something! Grrrrr! And as the one person expected to cook (S has also roped in her own mother and her MIL) who actually works full-time and doesn’t have a live-in housemaid, I am doubly pissed off, especially as our gracious hostess has decided all she will do is provide salads and soft drinks!
Pie, congrats on the booth! It seems I could have used your services this morning!
Very awake. Why???
Also - forgot earlier: Yay, Pie!!!
My MIL is nasty, lazy, selfish beeyotch, whose only redeeming feature is the fact that she gave birth to my husband. Full story later in the news at 9.
Dotty I await the full details on pins and needles. You should get a job writin’ those little teaser things for newscasts. The whole world would tune in to get the full story.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Also, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide awake! Apparently I slept good last night. Plus it’s Firday!!!
Since I left work as systems slowly met their demise yesterday should I expect to arrive at work and find a smoulderin’ heap of ruins this mornin’ y’all reckon?
Ok, off in search of more caffiene and brekkie foragin’ prior to purtification.
Later Y’all!
So sorry about MIL, Dotty. But, yes, we await the story on pins and needles. Is it possible that this will top previous stories of her behavior? Hard to imagine.
Up. Semi-awake. Would happily stay home, but…need to go in. Maybe I’ll get to leave early.
Happy Firday everyone!!!
GT
:dubious:
I presume it works…
Damn. Scooped again.

Blurf. That is all.
Dotty-!
I have what will probably be a horrible (work-related) meeting today with someone who can be very difficult.
I have a plan, but it won’t be pleasant.
Maybe I’ll be surprised… hah.
Good morning and thank goodness, it is finally FIRDAY!!!
Aw, Dotty, sorry about your MIL.
At least you’ll be on vacation soon and away from her for a while, right?
I need to get tea today–it’s that Irish Breakfast tea, so lots of caffeine.
Hope your meeting goes well, Soapy! time to get to that tea me thinks. Happy Firday all.
Yup works out quite well. I rarely have cocoa powder on hand so I did yellow cake. Nommy
Happy Firday!!!
I’m up and caffeinating also. I have to go in for my annual poke-around-my-girly-bits. Sounds a lot more fun than it is.
I’m so dumb! I get a Depo shot every three months. Since I have my exam today, I thought I needed to order the medication, like I always do. Walgreen’s told me that insurance wouldn’t pay for it, so first thing this morning I get on the phone with the insurance company. “You ordered it in October!” I forgot I got my shot last month - this month is for a well-woman exam. :smack:
After that, I shall go clothes shopping. Then I have to get my oil changed and tires rotated. Fun times in the world of Rebo, lemme tell ya!
Dinner tonight will be grilled jerk shrimp, wild rice, and steamed broccoli.
Dotty, I’m so glad I don’t have a MIL. You poor baby!
Yay Pie! You deserve some good news!
PaleBunny - I’m still thinking snow, but it seems all that’s accomplishing is to make it cold in Houston. 37° this morning! Brrr!
Ok - gotta find some sort of foodstuff for breakfast, and surf the rest of the Dope. My appt isn’t until 10:00.
Happy Firday everyone! We are having the first of four “food festivals” at work. The theme was Babes in Toyland and we decorated and made brekkie type foods. Oh, and played the movie original with Annette and Tommy Sands. (Yes, I am that old.) :dubious:
Okay, so Yay for pie and {{{dotty}}}. I await the full story.
Tupug
Yay Pie!
Boo for MIL, Dotty. My inlaws are nice, laid-back people, but I’m still glad I live 5+ hours away. And I think KT is glad we live a plane trip away from my parents. They’re no where near as bad as you MIL, but we’ve found that small doses of family are generally best.
I never use flour in with the apples for pie. Unless they’re super juicy, which apples usually aren’t (as opposed to, say, peaches or something with a lot of juices like that), it’s not necessary. I don’t like to add extra flour when the crust and the crumb topping are full of flour.
It’s a coworker/teammate’s last day today so we’ll have a goodbye lunch for her. Between that and some meetings, I’m not going to have to work too hard trying to look busy today. Which is good, 'cause who wants to do actual work on a Firday?!
It is Friday!!!
Woot for Pie
I can’t even imagine what your MIL has done this time Dotty. At least you will be hundreds of miles from her soon.
Thanks for the app info, Mork
I have made OK pudding in a mug, but I’ll have to try a cake one of these days. A few days ago, I made some goooood pumpkin cupcakes. The best part was that it was a small recipe and only made 6 cupcakes. That’s awesome because Hawkeye and I always have a hard time eating a regular batch. I think that I will manipulate this batch into being many different flavors.
