The Democratic National Convention

I don’t know if it’s correlation or causation, but you’re right. He is nowhere near the dynamic speaker he was before the bypass. It’ll be interesting to see how he does tonight.

Then, during Warren’s speech, “Dad? I can go to bed now, right?” :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t get the chance to watch it last night due to work, but what’s the deal with the “no American flags present” thing that’s making the rounds? I’m engaged in a debate with a hard-core righty who doesn’t trust snopes.

You nailed it. 5 minutes into Warren’s speech I said “You ready for bed?” and he said “Yeah.” So I missed a good chunk of it also. Usually I’m a big fan but after Michelle, she was pretty flat.

It’s a lie. I wouldn’t waste time trying to convince anyone who believes otherwise.

Among other things, a flag was marched on stage for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Another product of the cottage industry that’s been working overtime for 8 years, spewing anti-liberal bullshit, and keeping Snopes in business.

Could always show them the Colbert Hungry for Power Games at the DNC clip- they show a flag at least briefly as part of the digital cycle on stage.

Better url I think:

8? Just how old are you? More like 24 if you are HRC.

Gawker reporter complaining about the dearth of good Pokemon to catch at the Democratic convention.

That’s better than “United Together”. Department of redundancy department.

Snopes almost always gives links to prove their claims. If there are links that prove that the no flags thing is bullshit, then show him those links and don’t tell him they come from Snopes.

There is talk that Bernie Sanders will nominate Hillary Clinton. Does this mean that Sanders will not be put into nomination himself? Somehow, I don’t see his supporters liking that.

I posted this in another thread:

Bernie’s speech convinced me to vote for Hillary last night. I love that man, and I want to give him a hug.

Hate “Bernie Bros” all you want… But Bernie is a great man IMHO.

We can’t let Trump win.

5% of the bathrooms at the Democratic convention are gender-neutral

And FOX news, which has unisex bathrooms in its studios, is, predictably, outraged.

I’ve said this before: I love the guy, and he did a great thing over the past year, but I never wanted him to be president and I’m glad he lost the primary. What he needs to do with his massive email database and devout following is drive people to run for local office as Democratic Socialists-- school board, city council, county commission, drain commissioner, hell even neighborhood association and appointments to city commissions.

You can’t fix this country from the top down, which is what everyone would’ve expected Bernie to do as president. And he would’ve failed, and it would’ve set the progressive movement back 30 years.

Watched some of Monday’s speech highlights with my class today. (I work in a school for incarcerated juveniles; they don’t get to watch the news, so we’ve been using convention clips for civics lessons on the parties and the election process.) The students’ responses:

  1. Very positive response to the 11-year-old daughter of undocumented parents: An 11-year-old on the fear of deportation - YouTube . A few cynics spotted that it was a total emotional appeal, led to good discussion about how fake or real these events are.
  2. Several asked if Michelle O was going to run for something. Impressed by her speaking.
  3. Booker’s call for love instead of mere tolerance stimulated a lot of discussion. One student asked if Booker would love Donald Trump, which blew my mind for a sec.
  4. The kids don’t really know a lot about Bernie (if they know anything, it’s that he wants to legalize it) - but I heard him described as “speaking from the heart” and “aggressive” (by which the student meant something like “passionate”).
  5. Eva Longoria is hot, apparently! But her zingers at Trump got a ton of “Oh, snap!” and “DAMN!” type reactions.
Overall, a bunch of teenage criminals (who are curious about politics but don’t know a lot about it) asked to compare the two conventions had no trouble identifying thematic differences like positive/negative, hope/fear, unity/division, and diversity/homogeneity. To me, that’s a sign that the DNC did a pretty good job at message discipline.

This morning, after Trump’s tweet criticizing him, Booker replied, “I love you, I just don’t want you to be my president.”

Wow. I’ll share that with the kids. Politico story and full quote here: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/cory-booker-trump-feud-226203

“Love Trumps Hate” sounds clever at first, but I can’t help thinking that Donald will see it as a sign that people love his hatred of things.

Has anyone pointed out Warren’s Heil Massachusetts at the start of her speech. I’m not trying to make anything out of it, but it sure looked funny. No fair getting out the stopwatch and comparing with Laura Ingraham.

“Stronger Together” works for me. Makes me think of that video where the Cape buffalo band together to rescue one of their calves from some lions.
