The Democratic National Convention

Very interesting, snoe!

So am I the only one who thought Sarah Silverman and Al Franken were great? And Sarah was looking fly. Rrowrr.

That’s not really what I meant, although I could sort of see that point. I think if he were capable of singing that song well, it could appeal to young people even if they had never heard it before. I just meant that they should feature performers who are performing at a top-notch level now, not just jogging our memories of how great they used to be.

Additionally, I find it surprising that elderly musicians want to tarnish their legacy this way. I remember years ago hearing Trey Anastasio from Phish talk about a famous opera singer who retired and would not sing from that point on, not even “Happy Birthday” at a small family party. I really respect that.

Exactly. If he were to win this election, that would be a serious indictment of the American people. Although I should be more specific, since it would be unlikely for him to get significant support from racial minorities. So if he were to win, that would mean an extremely high level of support from non-Hispanic whites, who are still the majority even if a shrinking one. As a white guy by all outward appearances, I think I would probably need to wear a shirt or button everywhere indicating that I did not vote for him.

I saw a GIF that appeared to be what you are talking about, but it looked like someone else, not Fudge.

NM - closing, not opening.

Er, no, Iowa, Hillary is not the first to nominate a woman to be President. Um, Green Party, anybody?

Just setting the record straight.

Long before the Green Party existed, actually.

There have been a bunch if you look here.

Ha, the Democratic delegation from Nevada casting shade at the Republican delegation for getting the state’s capital wrong.

*Real *parties, not hobbyists.

Northern Marianas wins best costume.
Indiana has best rap.

That lady from Oklahoma sounded like Donald Duck. She wins the voice Emmy.

Victoria Woodhull, 1872.

I don’t think Governor Cuomo really meant that Bill Clinton brought the country to “new limits”.

I’m shocked, though, that they didn’t manipulate the vote so that New York put Hillary over the top.

Man “Do The Most Good” has to be one of the worst campaign slogans I’ve ever seen.

Wyoming delegation wearing 'BLACK LIVES MATTER IN THE EQUALITY STATE"

I wonder why Bernie was sitting down at the state delegation. Good for Bernie for the call for acclimation and unity.

Sanders took a horrible amount of time to come around to it, but he ended it with class and grace. Good for him.

Vote Clinton!

Someone on the Republican side, now that Trump is the actual nominee, has indoctrinated him properly into the party. I heard the proof myself. While decrying the lack of anyone having spoken the name “ISIS” at the convention last night, Trump called it the “Democrat convention”. Now it’s really official. And a bit more petty.

Here ya go…

King pointed at the mountaintop! Kennedy pointed at the Moon! Trump pointed at Jorge Ramos and said, “Get him outta here!!”

Acclamation. Not at all the same thing.

A couple of mundane observations about Bernie’s motion:

  1. Doesn’t a suspension of the rules require unanimous consent?

  2. Even if only a majority was required, couldn’t a die hard Bernie supporter have requested a division and forced the chair to take a roll call vote on the question?

I think they made it happen so fast that there was no time for dissent.

The chair asked all in favor to say “aye.” An overwhelming majority voted “aye” but a substantial minority voted “nay.”

I’m not sure, but I think the Bernie-or-Bust delegates would have to control a majority of a delegation to do this.
