The Democratic National Convention

His anecdote about his (White rural small town Scots-Irish) grandparents and their values is a reach for that White rural demographic even as it a frame of this election about who we are.

Tech question: I can read the speech along with Politico’s live blog… does that indicate my Uverse signal is about 1-2 minutes behind the actual action in Philly?

And dang that reach works well.

They generally release the text of the speeches ahead of its delivery.

He’s amazing as a speaker… Our President…

“…and even Home Grown Demagogues… will always fail in the end.”

Joe Louis never landed a punch that hard on Max Schmeling.

Still… who the Hell are these Hecklers?
Whats with the asshole wolf whistling & why hasn’t he been escorted out? Screaming “thats right” during important pauses… wtf?

The NYT “live feed” is behind what the comments are on 538 anyway … they mentioned Kaine’s going into the audience before it showed on screen.

Very solid. When he went into preacher mode, it was more effective than professor mode.

Well, that went well. I’m going to miss Obama and Biden.

Heh, started slow but got warmed up and then (signed, sealed) delivered

And yes, when he goes into preacher mode he brings it.

Amen. Good people. A great POTUS. History will hold high regard for these gentlemen.

Unfortunately, it will be tough for Hillary to match Michelle, Barrack, or Biden’s speeches. All three were strong with Michelle and Biden really delivering.

I’ve seen her deliver. She can do it. It might not be the greatest, but it will be good.

… yes … I am too. :frowning:

These are people I’ll never get to see or meet… not even at book signings.
President Obama has no real need to come to NJ again… except maybe as a get-in, get-out meeting somewhere. Maybe.
Joe Biden? Not NJ, no. PA… maybe. Its silly, he hasn’t lived in Scranton in years… but still…

Every time I’m in that area, I try to eat at Coopers. And every time… I’m going to look around in the hopes that I might see him there.

But I know he never will be…

This is the first administration in my whole 61 years that I’ve wished could run for a third term.

Not exactly an original thought, but there really have been some king-hell examples of the art of the political speech these past couple nights. Maybe it’s best that Hillary’s turn at bat is offset by a day, as the contrast in delivery when compared to the Obamas, Cory Booker, Biden, and her own husband is unlikely to do her any favors.

Other thing I noticed, it’s going to be pretty hard for the Republicans to claim lack of ra-ra patriotism on the Dems’ part this time around. Whatever one may think of Chris Matthews, he totally nailed it when he said this convention had clearly decided to embrace the cornball.

Going to miss Obama & Biden as well. Watching them tonight made me proud to have volunteered for them and got a volunteer’s ticket to the 2008 election night celebration/speech in Grant Park.

It also occurred to me that we haven’t had an election where the sitting president could be fully mobilized to campaign for the nominee in ages. Bush was toxic and largely left out of 2008 (& 2012 for that matter). Before that, Gore didn’t want Clinton anywhere near him in 2000. God, the last time an incumbent president was especially useful for advocating for the next guy would have been Reagan in 1988.

Tim Kaine started dorky, slow and stiff, but he warmed up. The Trump impersonations got the crowd going, which in turn, loosened him up too.

Barack, dang I’m gonna miss him. He seemed to tear up a little at the end (or was that me?). This was really his political swan song, which came 14 years after his political introduction to the nation; talk about a meteoric career. Oh sure he’ll stump for Hillary, and he’s still got a country to lead for the next five months, and he’ll be at future conventions, but this was his last speech as the leader of his party. Kinda sad. But on the other hand, he’s about to land the best job in the world: Ex-President of the United States.

The liberal Dopers loved the DNC today. Be interesting to see how the general public took it.

I remember thinking in 2007, no way the Dems are going to put a black man on the ticket. It’ll be hopeless for us to think of beating a repub. SOOOO glad I was completely wrong. I voted for Barack twice and I’m happy, but the constipation brought against him from the putrid GOP/tea party just showed me they weren’t ever working for the people, or ever cared to.

Trump, and the lethargy of the GOP will cause the GOP to split up. I won’t be surprised to see the new Conservative party, the Evengelical party, the nut-job rich kids party-- We’re in for a lot of change 'round these parts.

So, Hillary, I’m a supporter. PLEASE… don’t fuck up this election.

So, tell us how you feel. Not saying you are middle of the road, but I’m due you have an opinion, let’s hear it.

Or not. Some of us are sympathetic too.
