That’s what you get for typing with one hand.
Women are obviously less adept at science. Men have 78 more genes than women; more genetic information = more complex = more evolved.
This thread is really fun, but let’s try to get serious for a moment. We all know about the physical differences between men and women, and the different roles they play in the reproductive cycles, and what effect these differences have on the roles they play in society. But, what else is there? Specifically, what transcultural, psychological differences exist between men and women? Differences for which there is some hard, scientific proof? Differences that still apply regardless of whether the culture they grow up in is “patriarchal” or (to use Riane Eisler’s term) “gylanic”?
Some differences seem obvious but I don’t know if they have been scientifically investigated.

The male sex drive might not really be any more powerful than the female, but it is undoubtedly more urgent. The “sexual revolution” in the U.S. and Europe has not changed that, though some thinkers back in the '60s and '70s assumed it would. It’s still men who provide most of the market for prostitutes, for instance. There are male prostitutes but they mostly service gay male clients. Men want sex badly enough to pay money to do it with a total stranger, at risk of disease and arrest. Women almost never buy it – almost never have to buy it. Even an ugly woman can probably find a man willing to bed her. Some men sometimes commit rape. Women almost never do. Women might buy pornography, but, again, it’s men who provide most of the market for it. Same with strip clubs and other forms of “adult entertainment.” Why is that? Why are we guys still the ones doing the chasing, etc.?

Women are more naturally inclined to take care of children. What is more, they seem to be drawn to “caring” occupations in general. When I went to law school in Baltimore, our graduate campus also included a school of social work – and practically all of its students were female.

Men are more aggressive than women. This remains true even though modern American popular culture is full of brave, aggressive heroines.

Women have different esthetic sensibilities than men. What’s more, homosexual men seem to have different esthetic sensibilities both from those of women and from those of straight men. This one is DEFINITELY a personal observation with no scientific support, and I will not be offended if anyone cares to vigorously contradict it.

It might be sexist to say this – but in my experience, I feel more secure getting directions from a man than a woman. Women tend to confuse north and south, east and west. Perhaps this is because among our primitive ancestors, men were hunters and women were gatherers, and hunting requires a better sense of direction.
Does anyone know of any scientific research relating to these points? Does anybody have their own theories about transcultural psychological gender-differences? Which ones are real, and why do they exist?

Men: Minimum time needed to produce a child: approx 2 minites. Woman: 9 months.

Unlcear that this is genetic and not cultural.

Studies have suggested (not proven) that women think differently than men in terms of spatial perception. Women tend to think in terms of landmarks, while men think in terms of distances and directions. For example: Go down this street until you see the big church, vs Go down this street about 1 mile. Of course there has to be a big overlap, so I hate to even bring this sort of thing up as someone will then go off and say “Women always think this way” and “Men always think this other way”.
ahh bollocks… at least we got different tubes to do different jobs!
It was only a matter of time…
Hey does that mean we women don’t need you men any more?!?!?
