Yes, it is true.
Went to the local casino (Green Valley Ranch) last night for dinner and played some video poker afterwards. I was winning a bit and my SO was losing, so he kept taking some of my winnings and dumping them in his losing machine. About fed up, he slapped the last bill in the machine and a few minutes later suddenly said, “look! I got a Royal Flush…$1,000!”
I looked and said, “no…you got a sequential Royal and that pays $12,500!!”
(For those who don’t know, some video poker machines have a huge payout if you are ridiculously lucky enough to get a Royal, and also get it in the exact sequence of 10,J,Q,K,A or A,K,Q,J,10.)
Sure enough, the casino floor workers came over (and freely admitted they didn’t see this happen very often) and next thing you know, we were led to the high rollers section and they paid us out in cash. They then took us back to our machines that had been “guarded” while we were gone, so we could play out the remaining money. MY SO had about $20 left in his machine and I had under $20. The floor workers left and about three minutes later, I got another Royal for “only” $1000! And about 5 minutes later, my SO won an additional $500. Total of $14,000 which we then deposited straight into our local branch office of the bank a mile away.
I celebrated and bought a new laptop computer (Fujitsu N6000) and a printer. The rest of the money will be used for some huge dental and medical bills that we have been paying off.
Still, just thought I would pass the word that every once in awhile, someone actually does win a nice chunk of change at a Las Vegas casino!
