Feel free to use this thread to ask your own does this thing exist questions.
Mine: Does there exist software that allows you to draw on your windows desktop background and have that doodling/drawing remain in place?
I sometimes get the urge to doodle with my tablet. This means I have to load up PS or something and create a new document. I invariably close it without saving, and go back to whatever else I was doing.
But If I could just doodle straight away, onto the desktop background and have it save automatically, that would be better.
It should have an easy ability to erase, so you can create fresh ‘canvas’ (white area) to draw on, without losing the whole thing every time you’ve got bored.
So basically: An evolving picture. An electronic version of your school folder that you doodle on. (I never did that, but I’m aware of the fact that people doodle on their permanent stuff to such an extent that after the passage of a few years you end up with a super-complex ultra-doodle.
IMO the most convenient software for handwriting notes and “doodles” is Microsoft OneNote. (Included in some versions of the Office suite.) You still have to open the application, but then you click on the “Unfiled Notes” icon (bottom left), then click on New Page (upper right). You don’t have to save it explicitly, it’ll be there in the Unfiled Notes section next time you open OneNote. I know, that doesn’t sound all that convenient, but it really is a nice program.
I know this exists but I’m not really sure what to look up to find it-
I’m looking for something that will change my desktop wallpaper. Either at timed intervals, randomly, or that will let me press a key to change it to a random one.
What I REALLY would like would be something that would automatically change my desktop to the National Geographic photo of the day every day, but I’m reasonably certain that doesn’t exist.
I think you should be able to write some macro script which goes to the NG website and saves the daily pic to the same name and location on your disk, and then whenever you restart the new photo will be your background.
We did develop a software that turned your desktop into a calendar - with automatically changing (pre loaded) pix / days etc as time passed. It was for an automotive client - really cool
thank you, I’m encouraged to hear that it might be possible. I think waking up to a different cool background every day would be fun.
perhaps a better question would be… where might I find somebody who could either do this for me or explain to me step by step how to? “Macro script” is something I have no idea how to do and when I google, it all looks like it’s way over my head as far as the computer skills required.
eta: thank you, superwombat! that one looks really cool
Incidentally, the phones might allow it anyway. My last phone in the states a couple years ago (which was a couple years old at that point) had no kind of internet access (browser or the like). However, I was able to type in email addresses instead of numbers as my text recipient address. My address showed up (this was Verizon) as [mynumber]@vtext.com. People could then just use that address from a computer and emails would come as texts.
There was a character limit, so it was kind of a pain, but it worked.
If you’re on a Mac, you can send SMS messages directly from iChat.
As for the OP: Does this exist? A ceramic, open-top coffee mug that is self-heated. I’m a sipper. And sometimes it takes me an hour to go through one cup of coffee. I hate having to constantly reheat it in the mike, and I loathe thermos mugs.
Just give me a typical ceramic mug, with some kind of heating element embedded in the bottom. Using electromagnetic induction, allow me to set this mug on an electric coaster, that keeps my coffee (or tea) hot.
I have a widget on my Windows Vista computer that does that. Pretty much the only reason I like Vista. There may be other widgets out there for other OSes.
Here’s a post from a while back that has various email addresses you can use to text from email. I’ve only ever used it to text from gmail to a Verizon phone so I’m not sure how well they each work.
Right, see… it’s just a little hot plate. Why not put the heating element in the mug? And let the coaster power the heating element through EM induction (like how electric toothbrushes recharge). This way, the coaster stays cool, and the mug/beverage hot. Alas, I haven’t found such a product.
To keep it piping hot, it’s gotta be at least ~150ºF, doesn’t it? It just makes more sense to me to keep the heating element close to the inside of the mug, that way it’s more efficient, and you keep a cool coaster/charging surface. Plus it’s cool.
Step 1: Set up a bitmap (BACKGRND.BMP file) to doodle on.
Step 2: Set BACKGRND.BMP as your background.
Step 3: make an icon that runs “Paint.exe BACKGRND.BMP” (With appropriate file paths, of course).
Step 4: to doodle, double-click the icon. You’ll have to save manually or on exit. Changes will appear on your background at next boot.
It’s not precisely what you asked for, but on the upside it removes the risk of clicking on desktop icons accidentally while drawing. Win some, lose some.
