The Dog Watch MMP

I had a variety of engineering jobs for 26 years - they haven’t beaten me yet! Besides, genetics are on my side - my dad had hardly any gray when he died at 72, so I figure I have 10 more years. Mom, on the other hand, started graying about 10 minutes after she turned forty…

Well, back to work. Lunch is over.

Roasted corn and red pepper soup (from Trader Joe’s) with chorizo. Mmmm…

Afternoon. I need lunch but I really don’t know what I want to have. I will probably end up with soup. I do have an apple for later but I really don’t know what I want for lunch.

I’m lucky ---- I grew up long before kids or even dumb teens vanished or got abused. Unless it was by their parents. It wasn’t even a consideration back then. When I was like 8 or so a bunch of us built this shabby raft/boat/accident looking for a place to happen and Huck Finned down the Susque from Forty Fort to below Harrisburg. Three days. Without telling anyone what we had planned because we really didn’t have any plan. And then called home rather sheepishly to get one of our dads to come pick us up ------- going against the current to return hadn’t really occurred to us. We got paddled (with a left over paddle as I remember) and grounded for a week and that was about it. If some kids tried that today the Staties would be in the manhunt and the assumption after the first night would be that someone kidnapped them.

I miss the old days but I miss the adults it produced even more. The current crop are so ------ dull? ------- next to us. If they miss drugs and college they have almost no personality at all.

Dad is doing so much better now. He talked a blue streak while I was over yesterday. He’s having phantom leg issues–itchy nonexistent knees, that sort of thing. He had a bit of physical therapy and did pretty well with getting out of bed and hopping a little, especially considering it’s just his second day of getting out of bed. By this time next year he’ll most likely be strolling around on a prosthesis. He doesn’t like not being able to get around–just as fiercely independent as Grandma was.

My uncle came by yesterday as well and visited for a bit. They reminisced about visiting their grandparents and butchering hogs and the time my uncle tried to set his grandparents’ bedroom on fire (speaking of trouble we used to get into…).

Here’s a funny story for you that Dad told me yesterday. Now when Grandma Spaz’s foot turned gangrenous (take care of your diabetes, kids) she refused to have it taken off. She would not, would not, would not hear of it because then she’d be crippled for life. So my uncle wielded his power of attorney and had them amputate her foot. She came back to the nursing home saying, “Well, at least they didn’t take my foot off!”

“Mother, they did take your foot off.”

“No they didn’t!”

“Yes they did.” lifts blanket “See?”

Grandma stared at it for a minute and then harrumphed mightily. “WELL! I **hope **they’re happy now!”

As I’ve said before, Grandma made mules look wishy-washy.

You win. To do $120k worth of damage in Edwardsville I would have had to destroy the entire town. Or at least enough of it to catch the medias attention - like destroying the brewery. The worst I ever did was a lemon of a 1960 Caddy worth about $200. But that’s 1967 dollars.

You got them and will add to the intentions of the congregation.

Not only that but I have it on reliable sources that he’s homo------- ------- Oh, you meant that kind of “gay”.

Naaaah. Now the one I have planned for my funeral --------------

Huck and Jim had the same problem, as I recall.

Just so you know, phouka makes me smile.

I have an appointment at an art gallery on Friday to talk to them about selling my stuff there! Yet another completely happening place just like the main gallery where my stuff is sold. And, they’re also both in different major cities so there wouldn’t be too much overlap in traffic.

Sticky!!! That’s so cool!

Yay, irk. Tomorrow, auto repair. Thursday, shopping.

StickyBuns that is so ! YAY!!!

Howdy from da cave. Chikin pot pie in the oven that I need to go check on. BBL to catch up.

We found out what we are having today

A baby?

Mind you, you have to be careful with these scans, a friend of my mothers was told she was definitely having a boy, no question, yep, boy… went to hospital to deliver him, and she had…

TWINS! Yup, they missed a whole baby on all the scans! :smack:

Congratulations!

Yay, Apes!!!

Spaz, glad your dad is in good spirits - sounds like your family tree is full of characters!

Congrats, Sticky!!

I’ve got a big pot of almost-sketty sauce simmering. I didn’t have any mushrooms. You can’t have sketty sauce without mushrooms - that’s just so wrong!! So after we feed Higgs, we’re going out for a quick bite followed by a stop for mushrooms, and the sauce shall be ingested tomorrow, and several other tomorrows, 'cause it’s a big batch! Yum!

Higgs has lost a tooth - puppehs do that, right? Like babbehs? Hope so…

Yes, they do.

I don’t think April would mind having twins again. After all, how hard can it be?
***running away, laughing maniacally! You can’t catch me! (actually you probably could…)

Oh noes! We didn’t find out we were having twins until I was 5 mo pregggers. :smack:We had to return our one fancy expensive crib for two cheaper ones.

I am hoping this Ultrasound is right because I can’t have a house full of pink girly stuff and no one to wear it.

evil eyes shooting your way

LOL:D
