My sense is that personal insults are once again getting out of hand in Great Debates. I wouldn’t be pitting this except for the attacks on a guest in this thread and the participation of a mod which appears to sanction the negative behavior.

My sense is that the jackass in question deserves much worse than the mild jabs you quoted. He’s an obvious troll. A “guest” enrolled this month, started two threads in GD with one line OPs that do nothing but attempt to start a flamefest. Fuck him.
And, since we’re in the pit, fuck you for such a weak assed pitting on a non-issue.
If you’re gonna quote the Moderator MEBuckner, why not quote the whole thing, not just what makes your position sound good?
In both cases the Moderator correctly suggested to the OP that he/she learn the rules of debate before posting stupid one-liners.

Which actually works quite well. I used it either last night or the night before, and Skipmagic took care of the problem in about 15 minutes or so.

That comment was not aimed at the OP, and was in the context of an attempt to seriously adress the “issue” raised by the OP. Although I guess you just added it to explain this one:

I suppose “wierdo” is a bit insulting, but it’s pretty tame. The implication that the OP wants to have sex with fourteen year olds could be insulting under other circumstances, but is not entirely unwarranted given the nature of the thread.
As long as I can remember, the rule in GD has been, “You can insult the post, not the poster.” MEBuckner didn’t call TyCobb silly, he called his threads silly. And I’d argue that “silly” is not really much of an insult in the first place.
I’ll give you this one, mostly out of charity, but note that it was posted after MEBuckner’s comment, and no mod has posted since then, so it’s not clear that it received “sanction” from a mod. If you really think it (or any of the other posts) crossed a line, report it and see what happens. I don’t think you’ll get much of a response, though. Were I a mod, I would not consider any of those posts to be in violation of GD rules.
I’ll also add, since this is the pit, that Ty Cobb is about the single most incompetent troll I’ve ever seen.

The Flying Dutchman, I can only mildly agree that **bump ** is not doing the correctly thing, the rest really are not worthy even to grant a comment in MPSIMS, but it is hard to be reasonable with a poster that does not bother to come back and explain what he meant, leaving the door open to speculate after an OP that leaves open a big hole that implies that 14 year old girls can ignore the law.
Silliness is the least of the troubles **TyCobb ** is getting into.
And I’ll point out that TyCobb has a grand total of three posts. One was his GD thread that got locked, one was his other one line OP in his pedo-creepy thread about 14 year old girls, and the last was a borderline troll in the thread about whether a decapitated head retains conciousness.
He’s a serious contender for the Asshole de tutti Assholes award, at least for today.
That would make a nice award, but some of us wouldn’t have enough room on our mantels.

Sure, but I was appealing to a wider audience and wanted some discussion. Furthermore, do you see any sense in reporting half a dozen posts including a moderator’s to a moderator? I admit that none of the posts were offensive enough to merit a report but they were borderline and I would love to see GD free of personal digs. Thats my feeling.

In my defense, may I just say the thread was pretty dumb anyway? It really was. And when you look at both of them together, it is a bit funny. But it was still against the rules, and I apologise.
