The "Dr" in Dr Abdullah Abdullah

I had the opportunity to see a speech delivered by the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Dr Abdullah Abdullah.

Strangely, enough, I’d always wondered what he’s a “Dr” in. That is, until he spoke.

Although he’s active in political stuff, his (earned) doctorate isn’t in any of the normal fields. Not Political Science, or anything like that.

As it turns out, he has his doctorate in opthalmology. That is to say, he’s an eye doctor!

I can’t believe that this guy could be the one behind the obnoxiously big lenses, saying “Which is better? One…or two?”

It blows my mind.

How’s that for Mundane and Pointless!

As far as educated people necessary for rebuilding the country go, I don’t think Afghanistan is in a position to be particularly choosy at this point.

Hmmmmm and the Mullah had one eye. That has nothing to do with anything, but it popped into my head.

I hate eye doctors.

DOWN WITH AFGHANISTAN!

(Just kidding. A really good opthamologist surgeon gave me close to 20/20 vision when I was almost legally blind. But I hate those goddam pupil dilation drops! Arghgh!)
