I’m not sure if this goes here or into MPSIMS, but I just wanted to say that I’ve never seen this smiley on any other board, but I think it is just the most awesome smiley every invented.
That’s all I had to say. Anyone else love this smiley?
(On a related note, I don’t get this smiley :o – why is the mouth open for embarrassment?)
(On another related note, is about perfect as well, as is , although I find the  to be a little too dismissive.)
Didn’t we take a vote on the dubious emoticon about 100 years ago? I don’t remember what the other options were, but I remember thinking the dubious fella looked rather constipated. I miss the Putz guy.
The first time I saw  was years ago in an IM and it cracked me up. I’m also partial to the smackie. And I too don’t really get how:o conveys emarassment. When I see it my first thought is of a kind of smug, breathe on one’s fingernails and polish them on one’s lapel gesture.
The dubious smiley is not the most awesome smiley ever invented. That honor goes to the “puke” smiley, in which a face turns to the side, the cheeks puff up, and it projectile vomits a little pyramid of puke–over and over and over until you finally hit the scroll bar.
Smashie is overrated. Once you wake up next to him the morning after, the first thing you ask yourself is “what was I thinking?” :smack: (You apparently had a three-way with Smashie and Smackie, in this scenario.)
I love dubious. Probably my most used smiley. (I’m generally a very dubious person.)
Hmm, I do believe I like the first dubious smiley better than what we currently have. And who do I have to bribe around here to get Hijack? He doesn’t even necessarily have to come around during thread overthrows. How useful would that guy have been during Somali pirate discussions? Or any discussion, really. When are pirate emoticons not appropriate?
Funny, I was going to start a thread about how much I hate the Dubious Guy. If I had a choice, I would much prefer the Hmmm Smiley from another message board I frequent (see the purple guy in the first post here).
Also, the :o. It looks more like “Yawn” than “Embarrassed” to me.
On the other hand, the :smack: is possibly my favorite smiley on the whole internet. And the probably conveys puzzlement better than any of the others I’ve seen.
My all-time favorite animated smiley came from the Internet Infidels message boards: A brick wall with a profile smiley banging his (its?) head against it. Repeatedly.
Of course, the bowing smiley (to indicate “I am not worthy”) was pretty cool, too.
While I don’t actually use smilies, I can appreciate them when the are used wisely.
The dubious one is great. Agreed.
The one with the question marks is awful when someone is feigning disbelief just because they disagree with someone’s post. But it is awesome when a funny poster with great timing uses it.
The embarrassed one is good when used perfectly; which to me means when somone is not only embarrassed, but trying to save face. You know that way people puff up and put their noses in the air when the are ashamed of a position that they have to explain.
