The Emmys are on!

Spoiler space?

I don’t know of people even care about spoilers for the Emmys but here we are.

Anyhow…

Jimmy Kimmel’s opening was pretty good. Great bit by Julia and Tony from “Veep” but then they were upstaged by…JEB BUSH??? Was that really him?

Louie Anderson won for supporting actor in a Comedy for playing the mom in “Baskets.” Great role! Louie sounds awful. He sounds like he looks :frowning: (wheezy)

Aziz Ansari and his writing partner won best comedy writing for their episode of “Master of None” about their parents.

Kate McKinnon won for best supporting actress in a comedy (SNL). She was all choked up during her speech very cute.

So far all my favorites have won! Usually it’s the shows I never watch like “Mom” that wins.

Oh, “Transparent” just won for best comedy directing. Meh, I prefer Chris Addison’s episode of “Veep.”

Julia Louis Dreyfus won best actress in a comedy. That field was pretty tough - Amy Schumer, Lilly Tomlin, Ellie Kemperer and Laurie Metcalf.

I’ve never seen “Getting On” (Laurie Metcalf and Necey Nash were nominated) but I think I will check it out.

Julia’s speech was cool. She apologized for the current state of politics lol But then she dedicated the award to her dad who just died like a week ago and sort of broke down. Bittersweet.

Now they’re doing a tribute to Garry Shandling. Cool.

Jeffrey Tambor won for best actor in a comedy. No surprise. The other people in the category were pretty much playing themselves (Aziz Ansari, Will Forte, Anthony Anderson, Thomas Middlesitch) except William H Macy.

Tambor is a gem tho. He just told the band that was signaling them to shush. Haha

I’ve been watching The Simpsons, but I’m glad to hear that my current celebrity crush Kate McKinnon won her first Emmy. She is brilliant and should get all the comedy awards as far as I’m concerned.

Rami Malek won for best actor in a drama (Mr. Robot)!! He gets up tho the mic and is like “please tell me you can see this too” Awwww

Tatiana Maslany finally won for best actress in a drama! (Orphan Black) I stopped watching the show this season but you can’t deny that she is doing some amazing acting.

Holy crap! Tatiana Maslany for best actress in a drama! Very well deserved.

Rami Malek and now Tatiana Maslany - it’s nice to see some fresh young faces getting these awards. She really carries Orphan Black, lots on her shoulders, so well deserved.

I liked Jimmy Kimmel’s “wait until next year’s In Memoriam” I always thought they should do them in strict chronological order, so there’s no best/most important person.

Maslany’s work Orphan Black is nothing short of amazing. I think the show has gotten so complicated that I have trouble keeping up with the story, but I challenge any actor to create so many characters all at once. She is amazing.

Veep won for best comedy series which is probably not that exciting of news. But I am happy that Transparent didn’t win - once again I think it’s an important show but I just think it falls short when it comes to comedy and shouldn’t win comedy awards cuz it’s too dramatic. Modern Family also didn’t win, cuz it’s played out. I love Kimmy Schmidt and Master of None but they’re not the best.

I love me some Veep! The director was like “this is for chubby Jews from the west side” hahaha

Love Rami Malek’s win.

Not a week ago - just two days ago (Friday). I don’t know how she got through that speech without completely falling apart.

I’m very disappointed that Kirsten Dunst didn’t win for her brilliant portrayal in Fargo. She was so deep in that role that I didn’t even recognize her until several episodes had gone by, and the role was so out of character for her. Granted, I didn’t watch the OJ series, so can’t speak to the other actor’s job.

As Kimmel said, it’s a drama that identifies as a comedy ;).

And about two or three years too late. It’s a shame she didn’t win back when the show itself was actually good. It’s been downhill since season 2, IMO. Her performances are still great, but they are in the service of a declining product.

Dunst was amazing, and i thought that Fargo should have won the category as well.

That was the funniest moment in the whole show.

I can’t believe The Leftovers didn’t receive any nominations. The first season I can understand, but the second was pretty much the best drama of the year.

One article I read pointed out the oddness that the Best Actor and the Best Supporting Actor winners were both men playing women. (Jeffrey Tambour in Transparent and Louie Anderson in Baskets, playing essentially his mother.)

Yeah my friend and I were talking about that, as those were his predictions (although he felt they were longshots). We thought that it might cause a stir. But Tambor said he would be happy if he was the last man to play a transwoman, Louie Anderson said something about not being able to get a part as a man (sweetly), Laverne Cox was there presenting and Transparent won for directing or writing or something.

So it seems like it was internally a trans-friendly and a trans-hopeful event, and externally people don’t care enough to be up in arms about it (re: Fox, et al)

Very interesting nonetheless!

Also, it went exactly 3 hours. Very nice.

Tatiana and Rami deserved their wins so much. They were incredible and often overlooked, so it’s nice when Emmy gets it right. They get in ruts.

I think ACS: OJ was one of the finest pieces of tv I’ve ever seen. I laughed when I heard about it and thought I would never watch it, but it was amazing. Especially taking something I knew so well and make it interesting again. Don’t get me wrong: Fargo was almost as good. Just not quite as good. In any other year I’d think Fargo was robbed.

And super yay to Aziz and Patton. Nice to see them get recognized as well. I love John Oliver and while I think his show deserved to win, I can see it winning every year and turning into one of those ruts. Key and Peele getting one too was excellent news.

Rami Malek and Tatiana Maslany and John Oliver winning made me very happy. Even though I have tried but struggled to get past episode 3 of Mr Robot (even though what I watched was brilliant) and I stopped watching Orphan Black when it turned into a convoluted mess. But both aren’t the fault of actors, who are brilliant.

And John Olivers after emmy press conference was absolutely nuts. The first two reporters: good grief.
