The end of an era – a reflective MMP

Like one big elephant walk eh?

Oh, and yes -** rosie** - see The Fifth Element.

"Yes, she knows it’s a multipass. Anyway, we’re in love. "

Hello. I didn’t get much sleep, the dog was whining, and some party kept calling the house. I need to go Krogering, but at least I am well stocked on TP and beerverages.

FCM, when you share input and out put, be sure to use a cover sheet to protect your self.

rigs, I got the humor. Are you done with that paper yet?

Jahdra, three spider bites? Have you developed any super powers yet?

Haze, don’t think of it as -14C, think of it as 259K, that sounds much warmer. It’s 56 Amurikin here, but getting cooler tomorrow.

I’ve read the first four Harry Potter books. I didn’t much like them. They weren’t bad, but IMO they don’t stack up against Ursula K. Le Guin, Diana Wynne Jones, Garth Nix, Robin McKinley, and Philip Pullman. I like lots of YA fantasy, just not Potter.

I am preparing to go out into -19 after windchill.

li-li, I didn’t get hooked until I listened to them on tape. There’s something about that English accent.

The Harry Potter stuff I’ve seen on tv left much to be desired. My nine year old great niece says the books are boring. I have managed to leave my genetic impring without reproducing.

I’m considering a nice sit in my hot tub whilst sipping on either a cold beerverage or a glass of wine. Decisions… decisions…

Well, a YA librarian SHOULD be up to speed on the largest book phenomonon in our time-seeing as how it is a YA (and also kid’s) book…no, they don’t HAVE to read everything, they just do. Nature of the beast and all. Plus, she’s 23, so one would think that she had come across them sometime in the recent past.

this is for swampy :

I AM DONE WITH MY PAPER AND HAVE EMAILED THE FILE TO MY PROFESSOR

and now I need to go lay down. Class in 2 hours-JOY. (not).

Well, I have had my cardiovascular workout for the week. I went over to feed my librarian friend’s house, and she had left the alarm on. I called her to get the code, and it took several tries to get the stupid howling shrieking alarm to go off. She called the alarm company, but they had already called the police and refused to cancel the call because she couldn’t remember her password.

I see the police officer walking around the side of the house, and I go out the back door to meet him. I guess I startled him as he came around the corner, because he damn near drew down on me. The gun didn’t clear the holster, but I almost had a heart attack anyway. He was very nice after that - I think he was afraid he was going to have to CPR on me. My friend has promised me dinner at Thai House tomorrow night to make up for it.

I rather liked Harry Potter, but then I’m going into my second, or third, childhood.
Rosie, The Fifth Element is one of my guilty pleasures. Every time it comes on the TV I’ll watch it to the end. I have no idea why.

The African Queen is another, and I own a copy of that one.

Hey Rigs, how’s that paper coming?

:d&r:

Back to work, or whatever it is I’m doing.

We all need a good near-death encounter every now and then. Yikes!

[sarcasm] Serves you right for trying to do something nice. [/sarcasm]

Actually, I was going to feed her cats, not her house. I guess she has someone else feed the house, because she’s never asked me to do it. It’s also never begged for anything while I was over there.

My hands are still shaking.

Yet another reason I hate home alarms.

Deep cleansing breaths…

SCL, yikes! My heart would still be racing, too.

No super powers yet, unless you count itching. Call me Itchy Girl!

I ordered a hummus sandwich for lunch. The sandwich maker was new, so she added mayonnaise. Lots of mayonnaise. To hummus. Ick. That’s like ::gag:: chai with whipped cream. Hey, where did the Valley Girl come from? Like, totally, gag me with a spoon.

Me too. I just finished putting pizza bread in the oven, and I hear emergency tones on my pager. The first is the EMS service, and I recognize the next as one of the other fire departments. The third set is mine, and the pager goes off… and the tones keep coming. All six departments, plus the ambulances.

Oh. Shit. Something must have blown up.

I’m looking for my keys and my wallet. I lost my keys in my left hand once again. :smack: Kiss the wife, and just as I hit the back door on the way to the VunderCar, the dispatcher starts in with the message.

The time published in the paper for the county Christmas Parade on Saturday is wrong. It’s really at 3 PM, not 2.

It took me half an hour to settle down. Loki and I went out into the back yard to bounce away the adrenaline rush

There’s not enough :mad:s to cover my attitude right now…

Benadryl. Mainline it if you have to.

So what you’re saying is, you have to start from scratch.

:d&r:

Spats! I read that!

I have a good alarm story. Faraway Best Friend, her family and I stayed at her sister’s the night sis got married. FBF was leaving for home the next morning and sis lived fairly close to the airport, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Can’t remember what time the reception ended, but we got home and opened the door and…the alarm went off. Do we have the code? Heck no! It’s really late and it’s sis’s wedding night and the phone is ringing (the alarm company) and they can’t cut us any slack of course and the nice men in blue arrive while we’re trying to call the honeymoon suite. We had to try both cell phones and the room before anyone picked up a phone. (Imagine that!)

And, as if that weren’t enough, the alarm went off again around 6:30 the next morning. Groom’s brother considerately stopped by to walk the dog. Apparently, wedding jitters kept groom from actually communicating with brother.

Gotta say, it made for a memorable experience.

Sorry for all the unplanned cardio workouts. I’m guessing it was your favorite dispatcher, Bobbio?

Great to hear the treatment is going well, Rebo.

I’ve been fretting all day because I’m going to a brunch and wasn’t sure what to bring. Wandered through the frozen appetizer section of the grocery store and wasn’t fascinated. Decided not to buy anything yet, pending inspiration (I had other stuff to get, so the trip wasn’t a total waste. )

And then it dawned on me: I was planning to make FCM’s baked French toast! :smack: Don’t know how I managed to completely forget. I’ll blame the stress (cuz it couldn’t possibly the age  ).

Gotta make some calls and do some more decorating.

Back later.

No, this was one of the wimmin dispatchers. They speak coherent English…

I often get a few laughs reading the editioral section of the local newspaper, but today was the weird letter to end all weird letters. The letter started off by saying that “Jesus is Lord” and ended by praying for mercy for this city. The reason we need mercy (in this dingbat’s view)? Since his perferred candidate didn’t win the mayoral election, the voters used witchcraft to defeat him.

Poke me with a fork - I’m done. I don’t think anything will ever top that for sheer religious insanity.

Hey all, I haven’t read a bit of this week’s MMP, I have been stressed out of my mind and I really did not want to come in and dump another load of whine on you all. To sum it up, my mom is in liver failure and is going to be put on the organ donor list. She lives in Washington, and I really want to be there, but for right now that isn’t an option. If she gets sicker, or when she has the surgery I will go down, but I am very worried about her. Then my #3 daughter, who has been complaining of muscle weakness and joint pain in her hips and knees had a significantly swollen and red knee, plus she had called from school saying she was hurting and wanted to come home. This is the child I have to practically sit on to keep home when she runs a fever. So we went to the doctor who was quite concerned and sent blood special on the last plane out to Anchorage on Tuesday, and she told me that her thought was juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Yesterday we went and #3 had x-rays taken. Since my kid is Native she is seen by Native Medical Services, and they have an orthopedic clinic every month, and that was scheduled for today. It was fully booked, but the doctor felt that it was urgent for my daughter to be seen, so she had one of the patients bumped, and that’s where we were today. The labs were back, except for the rheumatoid factor, but her ANA and sed rate, along with the rest of her labs, were all normal. The ortho doctor did a thorough exam, explained everything, showed us the x-rays, and said that she seems to be a completely healthy 15 year old girl. His thought is that she is not recognizing when she has exerted herself to the point of needing to rest, and that is what is causing her symptoms. I don’t know how to express just how stressful this has been, or how utterly relieved I am…I am limp emotionally right now.

Other breaking news, I ordered a new digital camera so I will soon be able to share photos of kitties, pommies, and bamboo flooring!

Now for a nice cup of cocoa with a slug of Captain Morgan!
