The end of an era – a reflective MMP

Damn. I mean drat. It’s cold walking into the wind, and it’s a Holy Day of Obligation.
I’m not Catholic yet. Do I have to go? (Waits for dugbutler and gt to pounce)
Drat.

I’m really sorry, Drae. That sucks.

Enjoy dinner, rigs. Where are you going?

Of course you have to LiLi. It’s called sufferin’ for the saints. Even us Whiskypalians know about sufferin’ for the saints.

Actually, if I didn’t have to be at work, I’d be home all snug and warm and… well… all up in here.

I just got out of interviews with two really great people. Resume’s don’t always tell ya everything. I foresee one being in the position I desperately need and the other being in a position we’ve been working on because well, we need both of 'em. Da boss and I both agree we need to have both on staff some way some how.

I have chicken 'n dumplin’s for lunch. YUM!!! Perfect on a cold day too.

Or as the nuns used to tell us kids, “offer it up to the Baby Jebus.”

Real Cream of Wheat is yummy. Instant Cream of Wheat is nasty, and Cream of Wheat cooked with milk and brown sugar? Is an abomination before Og. On the other hand, I eat instant grits, so what do I know? I was fascinated to discover that there are all kinds of instant grits available: cheese, red-eye gravy, ham and something, etc; stores here in Cali only sell plain, if at all.

Knitty’s up! I particularly like Sheldon. Binary is cool, too.

Jahdra, when Mr. SCL and I lived in Hawaii, we always ended up taking an extra suitcase home with us when we visited Georgia - full of thing like grits, Duke’s mayo, boiled peanuts, and all the other dietary staples we just couldn’t find in Hawaii.

Real grits are much better than instant grits, but instant grits are better than no grits at all. If the only ones you can find are the plain ones, shave some cheddar cheese into them after you’ve heated them and heat a bit longer. Yummy!

I made a great find on FreeCycle last night - someone is giving away a hockey stick. I’m going to get it and give it to a friend, who will have it signed by the team for her son for Christmas. What? I already have three team signed sticks and really don’t need another one. I’m not greedy.

I have to go pick up the stick and go to the post office, and I don’t want to. Desktop weather says it’s 37 F out there. That is way too cold for us delicate Southern flowers. We had a very mild winter last year and I am not really enjoying the cold.

Guess I’d better go get dressed. It is definitely “break out the heavy coat” weather!

I was tricked! It’s not a Day of Obligation! I walked nine whole blocks each way and came home to find the cats sitting comfortably on the clean laundry!

I am going to sulk while tidying.

It was a nice service.

Maybe that means Less Time in Purgatory?

Delicate Southern flowers, forsooth. Would you like us to mail you some nice cold air masses?

Really? Newsradio Man said it was this morning. Maybe it used to be, but under the newfangled catholicism, it’s not?

Because I thought it was too.

Buck up LiLi a little extra sufferin’ for the saints never hurt anybody. Besides, the cats got to have a laundry party while you were gone.

BRRRRRRRRRR… it’s really bright and sunny outside but windy and cold. ACBG and I had planned to go to the good pizza buffet place but I’m startin’ to consider the idea of delivery pizza instead. Tonight’s gonna be a great night for some hot tubbin’.

Jahdra - cool website - at one point the headline read “Knitting with Balls”

Drae - I got no plans for that weekend - wanna come here? ou can stay the whole weekend

I had the weirdest dreams this morning in between snooze bar hits - but I’ll be “blessed” if I can remember any of them. Cable guy is fixing my DVR that doesn’t, so I’ll have to finish watching Rent later (I’ve only seen it about a dozen times or so already) Later the Appraiser is coming so I can get my ReFi

That’s all - I’ll be back later

LiLi I know you’re Canadian and all but here in the U.S. today is a holy day of obligation for Catholics… Immaculate Conception. So maybe you did do right after all.

I want you to know that I, in my religious ignorance, actually went to Wikipedia to look up the Immaculate Conception so I didn’t look like an idiot when I said “What? Mary was only pregnant for like TWO WEEKS???”

Consider my ignorance fought.

Taters the new lights will be featured in upcoming pictures. They look real purty, something like this. The one over the garage door is bigger than the two flanking the front door.

VBob and The Bear I apologize for that riddle, but you did ask, nay, demand, that I send it to y’all.

The GF is going to make the trip north this weekend without me. She feels better about leaving me behind now that I have a long honeydew list on the refridgerator. I think she was afraid that I’d spend my bachelor weekend out a-drinkin’ and a-whorin’. Yeah, like I want to sand an entire front porch and mailbox hung over. Sheesh.

Since I can’t read my personal e-mail at work, I have no clue of what you want to apologize for.

That will probably change after I assume my position of power at the VunderLair.

Know how sometimes you get what you asked for and then you wish you hadn’t ask? Well… Sean… wish I hadn’t asked. But I did. So I have to get over it. Thus, I say to myself… So There! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you already have! Where do you think all this cold air is coming from? We certainly don’t grow it down here! Everything in my front garden is frostbitten, so I’ll be pulling dead plants tomorrow.

It actually wasn’t that bad. Got my Secret Santa gift mailed - I think she’s going to like it - and picked up the hockey stick. Now I’m home until time for Thai House tonight. Thai House is worth almost getting drawn down on!

My car is ready, and it passed smog. Final damage: $1245.47. Ouch. Ouch. I’m so close to getting out of debt, and here’s some more. Best laid plans and all that.

On my conference call this morning, we were informed that we are significantly under budget for morale activities. We’ve spent $310 over the past 6 months, and our budget for FY07 is $5,000. We’re so used to cost cutting, and not being allowed to spend any money on ourselves, that we just don’t. So we have to spend the bulk of the money by March, or we won’t get much of a budget next year.

Dang Jah I say buy a hot tub and put it in the break room. That’ll boost morale.

Jah --I read that as underbudget for MORAL activities and I did wonder…
sean -I keep forgetting but I did look at the house and it’s looking great!
Lisslar -probably a local Italian place. I’m looking forward to it.

I am not feeling all that well–exhausted. So, I am off to lay down for a bit. I think I am reacting to the semester being over. Odd-I used to hit the bars when the semester ended…now I lay down with an afghan over my knees…

Rigs just think of all the semesters ahead. By the time you finish grad school you’ll be reduced to sitting in the corner with a blanket over your head and whimpering. Enjoy your dinner. And, let’s not be so stubborn about finishing our future papers young lady. Let that be a lesson learned. :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of which, Haze you got that other paper done yet, young lady? :dubious:

rosie, you are so photogenical! You always look so happy in pictures, so cheery and stuff.

I survived another week. One to go before my break. I mailed off some ceramics to some of my friends in FL - I think I’ve told them all that I’m doing pots now - I’m sure I’ve sent them links to the pics. Well, now they’ll all have **FCM ** originals, provided the post office doesn’t crush them or lose them.

Something remarkable happened at work today. Yesterday and this morning, one of the younger female-types was coughing and coughing and coughing. And she wasn’t covering her mouth - I could tell by the sound. I was so close to yelling at her… Well, this morning, the military guy who sits up by the door came to talk to her. I heard him saying stuff like “I don’t want to get sick. Bob doesn’t want to get sick. Sally doesn’t want to get sick.” Then he went on about germs on the keyboard and in the air. Minutes later, as I was heading out to get a sammich, I was following her down the hall - I recognized her by her hacking. She had her coat and her hat and all of her stuff - he sent her home. YAY! We get sick leave - there’s absolutely no reason to come in and share germs. She’s not working on a hot project that will ensure world peace or a cure for cancer or intelligent TV programming. So he sent her home. YAY!!

The afternoon was blissfully free of hacking.

As soon as I post this, I’m going to start a fire. In the wood stove. Make the room all toasty. I hate winter, but I love a cozy fire.

Oh yeah, and tomorrow is my 23rd anniversary. I’m gonna take my sweetie out to dinner. I just remembered there’s a Japanese steak house that we’ve never tried - I think we may dine there. Ya think? 23 years - not a bad track record after a whopping 4 weeks of dating. I think he’s a keeper.

And now, to heat things up. You know - the fire. My sweetie isn’t home yet… hehehe
