There was a live streaming option for $30. I considered it but I decided I’m not really that big of a heavy metal fan. And of course most of the show was/has been posted by youtubers. Some of the clips have surprisingly good sound quality. Tony Iommi’s guitar tone was pretty amazing in the videos I’ve seen.
IMO he was the greatest rock singer ever. His vocal performance on those old Black Sabbath songs has no equal.
Oh god yes. I’ve marveled about how Sabbath’s first album was the absolute last point you could argue whether Metal was happening, and they had the perfect Metal vocalist to set the genre rolling.
Plus, having Geezer. Bill and Tony backing him never hurts.
It’s interesting that Ozzy’s farewell concert took place on the same night as the first of Jeff Lynne’s farewell concerts with Electric Light Orchestra. And, as both bands (and both men) are from Birmingham, both concerts were held there, as well.
Truly the end of an era.
The Ozzy / Black Sabbath farewell gig has been almost frontline news, but I missed the Lynne farewell gigs happening.
Same city, same age, same era etc., but still, I don’t think there’s much overlap with Sabbath / Ozzy and Lynne / ELO fans in 2025.
I’ve never been a Black Sabbath fan, even though I acknowledge their huge importance and impact. ELO records I used to spin quite often.
Are you referring to Ronnie James Dio?
It wasn’t really an option for me anyway, I had a family event that night, but from what I’ve heard, for that money you really didn’t get the whole 10 hours concert in real time, but a delayed 2 hours synopsis. And there were technical glitches, buffering streams and stuff like that. I’m glad to not have paid the same amount of money for a streaming event as I have a few weeks ago for a real live Richard Thompson show.
Sadly enough, their real singer passed some 10 years ago
Disagree, though Dio is good - the real singer was and always has been, Ozzie.

Just like the Yardbirds had three of the greatest rock guitarists at different times in their line up, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, Black Sabbath had three of the greatest heavy metal singers, Ozzy, Dio and Ian Gillan.
I know I am in the minority of metal fans when I say this, but I never cared for the “operatic” singing styles exemplified by the likes of Geoff Tate and RJD - it is too formal and too serious for my tastes. My favorite metal singers are the ones who figured out how to add some “craziness” to the songs, and Ozzy perfected this. Another is Bon Scott.
Agree strongly. On the first three albums (Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality) Ozzy’s voice was utterly original, and perfect for the scary dark material. That’s the Sabbath I grew up with almost fifty years ago, and will always love best.
No shade on Dio, Gillian, et al. They were great at what they did.

Ozzy was in the band 25 years, Dio and Tony Martin were both in the band 10 years, so there really isn’t any doubt as to who was the main singer in Sabbath, good as Dio was (can’t comment on Martin). Gillan was Purples man filling in for 2 years so I’d say he barely counts.
What is the Over/Under on how long till the next “Final Show” is announced? ![]()
I’d need to know how Ozzy’s doctor is betting.
He has died.

‘Godfather of Metal’ bit the head of a dead bat, starred in his own reality TV show, and once tried to strangle his wife Sharon in a drug-fuelled episode in 1989. He leaves behind a legacy as one of the most colourful showmen in rock’n’roll
Don’t bother waiting around for an encore; he died today.
Damn ninja!
Sail on, Ozzy. You did a hell of a job at it, I gotta give it to you.
