What is a brother for if not to torment? looking innocent
I’m surprised that fireworks are legal here, but at least some types are. I’d think what with the potential for fires they wouldn’t be. But I saw people buying today, so apparently I’m the weirdo. I’m not taking the chance, though from a few things I heard last night I think some of my neighbors will!
spaz I’m pretty sure my fried okra recipe is in the recipe blog thingy. I’ve been thinkin’ about you cause Dear Abby has had some ummm… interesting letters the past couple of days.
rigs I justified it because they do go good with beer and tomorrow encompasses much drinkage of beerverages. Besides we gotta much on sump’n while waitin’ on the ribs to get done.
So, you missed me, right? They moved where the fireworks are launched from, so the primo viewing real estate moved too. I HAD TO WALK AN EXTRA 50 FEET OR SO for what turned out to be a much better view than the old spot. You could even see the fireworks that were way low!!! (Also had to zag a bit where I used to zig!)
So, we had a soundtrack that included the traditional: 1812 overture, Ohio State fight song (with scarlet and gray buckeyes, of course; or maybe they were supposed to be Block Os?), Hang on Sloopy, Stars and Stripes Forever, and, of course, Carmina Burana. Yep, that was the finale for the second year in a row. Rather cool, I must admit. And I got a pretty good, brisk walk in as well. Go me!
It started to rain on the first one, abruptly stopped and started up again on the walk back to the car- perfect timing!
Only downside- son had a bit of a quasi-asthmatic reaction to all the smoke in the air and needed his albuterol inhaler when we got home. First time he’s ever needed it in summer or unrelated to getting a bad cold.
so they let us out early, after telling us we couldn’t because the boss’s boss’s boss was going to drop by for a surprise visit, but he left as surreptitiously as he arrived, so we got to leave early anyway.
I got to the rehearsal site and felt like all I wanted to do was come home and sleep, but I’m glad I went in because we started learning a new arrangement (get this - Celebrate by KC and the Sunshine Band - first It’s Raining men, now this! too fun!) and my fledging quartet actually got a chance to rehearse.
Only now, I’m too wound up to go to sleep. Good thing I don;t have to get up early tomorrow.
oh, while I think of it, have any of you ever tried that “5 Hour Energy Shot”? Please review it for me.
Well, all I know is that I have unsubsidized Stafford loans currently, and that I had to go to the Financial Aid office and fill out a little form that had my name and how much I wanted to borrow on it. No big application or anything, but certainly… something.
Also, we’re having a Dependence day party at our house, get it? Day before Independence day? The house is decorated with British-themed signs, such as “Loo ----->” and “Mind the Gap” near a step (we don’t have any subways to put it on, of course.)
The original plan was to have fish ‘n’ chips and Guinness, but it’s going to be Coors Light and screw you if you need food.
We plan to have a nice, quiet day tomorrow. I’ve bought some ribeye steaks, the fixin’s for potato salad, and some white corn on the cob.
You know Swampy, I was raised to never show up at someone’s home empty handed; be it wine, flowers, or contributions to the meal. Even if I’m told not bring anything, I’ll at least bring wine or flowers. My mother is from Germany and it’s verboten to show up empty handed. I think you need to bring your cheese straws to my house.
My daughter is now in possession of a food handler’s card. We arrived about 4:50, but they didn’t open the doors until 5:30, so I sat outside waiting with her. Thank goodness it wasn’t raining. While she endured the class and ridiculously easy test, I drove to Borders, bought a couple of books, and had a coffee treat of some kind. My daughter called me about 7:15 to come pick her up. I picked her up, we drove to Safeway, and then we threw some burgers on the grill.
Happy 4th everyone if I don’t get a chance to pop in tomorrow.
And happy Firday to the rest of us. I’m tired, didn’t get much sleep last night 'cos 'im indoors was snoring so loudly. Eventually decamped to the spare room and the airbed at 4am, the Ophie decided to come and see what all the fuss was about.
I am tired and I want to go home already. Time to carry on breaking that database!
Happy 4th of July!
Would someone explain to my child that 4 a.m. is not morning, and time to get up?
The doctor says she doesn’t think Nat’s teething quite yet, since she can’t feel any teeth at all. She thinks he got a bit of a tummy bug, and that I should start solids immediately in hopes of him being less hungry at night, and because he’s huge, dammit. She also thinks he’s adorable and the picture of health.
Well, except that yesterday he developed a harsh, seal-bark cough.
Yawn. Today we’re going to meet my parents’ new dog, and we’ve got someone coming for dinner. Quick simple vegetarian recipes?
Just popping in to say hi and that I’m still getting BSOD. My geek friend at work couldn’t duplicate it. I’m at a loss - I suppose I could just reinstall xP, but I don’t really want to go that route.
Stoopit 'puter.
I’m gonna try to get caught up before I crash again…
Anywho happy Fourth of July to all my fellow/ess Amurkin Mumpers and Happy Firday to everybody else.
I’m up and caffienatin’. Soon I need to go purtify and get ol’ y’all know who up for purtification so’s we can hit the road. It ain’t far but I did say we’d try to be there around nineish so’s we can stick beer in the big cooler and get it out of their spare fridge which I’m told is full of nuttin’ but beer. Not like that’s a bad thing mind you.
Ok, need some foodstuff in tummy and purtification.
Tortilla juliana is easy and fast, it doesn’t take a lot longer than a regular omelette. It’s just omelette aux fines herbes, south of the border
For something more filling and warmer (although it’s not a good idea if you’ll go to bed shortly after dinner), how about chick peas with spinach and tomato sauce? Sliced hardboiled egg optional, I like it but Lilbro totally refuses to eat anything with hardboiled egg.
I’ve been up moving stuff around since 5:30 or so. I’ma take the bed frame apart and move mattresses out of my bedroom so that I can pull carpet up more easily. I’m also trying to prepare for the mess that will be created when I sand the floor.
I’m all out of ideas for vegetarian meals…mac 'n cheese is the only thing coming to mind…must not be awake yet.
Off to move more stuff and also to eat breakfast, I think.
Thanks for all the advice about the gift. We ended up going to Wal-Mart and I bought a gift card that will be from both of us. I’ve known the kid forever, too! It was cool - it had a picture of two wedding rings on it. Anyway, he won’t be empty handed and feel awkward.
Can you believe I’ve only ever been to one wedding? And it was in someone’s house, and was a second wedding for both people. I’ve never been a bridesmaid. It’s no wonder I know nothing of wedding etiquette!
We’re having ribs today, too. With NOT salad, baked beans, and corn on the cob. Just us three…
I’ve read the thread, I just can’t remember anything! 'Cept I hope Nat can sleep better once you start feeding him some solids.
