The Expanse S4

Still a couple of months until it airs, but I saw two new videos today:

The Expanse Season 4 - Official Teaser (2:00 video)
The Expanse Season 4 - Clip: Rocinante Lands on Ilus (5:53 video)

The teaser was cool but the clip is WOW!

Like: that stumble is a fantastic bit of storytelling. It’s such a significant moment for Naomi in so many ways and the way her crewmates handle it is awesome. Tells us a lot with very few actions and zero words.

I’m very excited for next season to begin!

13 December is the date!

Previous threads:

The Expanse (new show on syfy)
The Expanse season 2 episode discussion
The Expanse; season 3

This thread is bound to have open spoilers as (I guess it’s just “when” nowadays) the shows air, but please, folks: don’t reveal spoilers from the books.

SQUEE!

I can’t wait. I am so looking forward to another season.

Can’t wait, really need a full 3-season recap. I hope there is a good one out there.

The Expanse Season 1 Recap (2:27 video)
The Expanse Season 2 Recap (2:07 video]

For S3 I had to go longer with THE EXPANSE Season 3 EXPLAINED! (26:49 video) but I gotta admit that it’s pretty damn thorough and well-organized so you get that for the almost 30 minute time investment. The same guy also did a 12 minute Season 2 recap if you want it.

Can’t wait. I’m a fan of the books, which are far ahead of the series, but also of the series.

Cool, can’t wait for December. Also it was weird to see the Rocinante actually landing on a planet; I didn’t realise it was designed for that.

Aye; pretty fortunate that they found a convenient canyon to land in, eh?

People are really geeking out over this; it’s fantastic!

Here’s an 5 minute breakdown of a 1 minute teaser and another 5 minute breakdown of the 2:30 trailer from earlier this summer.

:stuck_out_tongue:

There are some great additions to the cast this season. Burn Gorman looks excellent as Murtry.

I was shocked to hear Drummer speak in an American accent. Neat con video.

She’s Canadian, IIRC.

Season 4 - Official Trailer (2:39) is out. Lots of plot reveal; it seems cool.

Not “lots of plot reveal”, that is pretty much the whole damn season revealed, from beginning to (nearly) end. You now know pretty much everything there is to know about the book it was based on.

Kevin Smith Explains The Expanse. It’s actually pretty good once he actually gets into talking about the show. I mean, you still gotta deal with Kevin Smith but hey.

I plan on staying up late to watch this tonight; I figure I can at least get E1 viewed and kind of satiate myself for a spell.

But tomorrow, as soon as the sun goes down: Binge City.

It’s already out and has been for a few hours. Just watched the first 2 eps. They are doing a great job and looks like increased production budget as well!

Sweet! Only a few more minutes left in this wretched hockey game; then I’ll go check it out.

I watched E1 and thought it was great. Holden wasn’t as annoying, Avasarala is less restrained and more like the books, and they got the little touches right. On Mars: “the help desk is open 24 hours and 2/3.”

Since we’re all going to be watching at different speeds, any great ideas on how we discuss the episodes without spoiling it for others? Maybe put it in spoiler tags and preface it with the episode being discussed?

I propose that until 20 December, no open spoilers.

I thought E1 was great. E2 got better and E3 just maintained. I just started E4 but had to take a break.I could do without the constant situationally inappropriate politically motivated sparing and without each and every subset of people having their own rancorous and incredibly intertwined power dynamic struggle. It’s getting old fast. This is THE most dangerous situation humans have or likely CAN ever be in, and yet people are carrying on as if they were in their hometown. That’s stupid (writing).

I got thru E6 and then had to get some sleep. I plan on finishing it all tonight.

Overall, this is still excellent but
I could really do without all the petty fighting and procrastination. No way should anyone have had to go back out *as the incoming tsunami is in view, despite the large hill that obscures everything past a few hundred meters out. Everyone should have been inside and buttoned up at least an hour before the tsunami was due.

And that’s just one example of shitty, Hollywood-esque writing. There are far too many of them and far too little of “hey this thing is important let’s focus on this”. Even in the rare instances when people do agree to cooperate, the show is always quick to show us that they are angling for their own goals regardless. It’s getting really tedious. Sometimes people are reasonably happy and intelligent and cooperative; it’s not as rare a condition as the show depicts.
