The Feud: Big Musical Numbers by 42fish [Game Over]

cmkeller is #41. I’ll try to get to this tomorrow.

Likely that’s my position in the scoring as well as my order in entering the game.

  1. One is the loneliest number
  2. Two lovers
  3. Three Times a Lady
  4. Eight days a week
  5. Dance 10, Looks 3
  6. Sweet Sixteen
  7. 99 Red Balloons
  8. In the year 2525
  9. Nothing Compares 2 U
  10. 9 to 5

The directions said to exclude “One” when answering Question #1. There are many songs with that title, including the Harry Nilsson tune which is often known by its first five words, “One is the loneliest number”. Since so many people selected this number for that number, it appears that those who took pains to follow the rules are at a disadvantage here.

I dunno, if I search for “One lyrics”, I get Metallica, U2, someone called Fat Joe, and Three Dog Night on the first page, and nothing for Nilsson or “One is the loneliest number” in the first ten pages. If that really is the song’s official title, it looks like you’re the only one who knows it.

It does indeed appear to be the song’s official title. The Three Dog Night song is a cover of it.

I knew the song’s official title was “One” but I didn’t want to seem like a sour-grapes kinda guy.

You know, I had the same thought, I wasn’t sure of the song’s proper title so I googled something like “Three Dog Night one is the loneliest” not even thinking that I biased my own search.
No wonder it spit the same wrong title back at me.:smack:

  1. Queen - One Vision
  2. Tea for Two
  3. Metallica - The Four Horsemen
  4. The Beatles - Eight Days a Week
  5. 12 Days of Christmas
  6. Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen
  7. The Beatles - When I’m Sixty-four
  8. Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
  9. Avril Lavigne - Sk8ter Boi
  10. Dolly Parton - 9 to 5

(yeah, I know, technically the answer for #8 doesn’t refer to the year, but…)

This comes up all the time, though. The question will read “Except for Lincoln, name someone in the Ford theater the night Lincoln got shot” and someone will inevitably say Lincoln.

Answers will stand as posted.

Going to score this now.

I actually did read the direction and took it into consideration. But I assumed it was prohibiting the U2 song. I thought the title of the Harry Nilsson/Three Dog Night song was “One Is the Loneliest Number” and was therefore eligible.

Isn’t this the same?

Oh, I came in 15th…YES!

only 2 number 1’s and maybe a number 2 I’m still in the middle of the pack. Not bad.

No love for Winger. Sad.

I’m pretty happy with having made it to the #6 spot after blowing the answer to the fourth question.

I don’t know if it’ll affect the rankings much, but on the fourth question, “8 Miles High” and “Eight Miles High” were counted seperately.
