Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen of the Dope, was Steelers football. Big Ben is BACK.
Holy shit, that was seventy-five different kinds of kickass!

Really? Watching a team rally to nearly overcome a 20-3 4th quarter deficit isn’t more exciting than watching a backup QB with an insurmountable garbage time lead? I mean, I can understand being upset if you’re a Steelers fan, but at that point, you can’t honestly say NYJ/MIA wasn’t the better game.
Doesn’t matter a damn which game is best, as the networks routinely complain. NFL rules.
Er, are you saying the NFL dictates the game switching, and not the networks?
What are the guidelines they follow?
I just wanted to make sure all you football fans noticed this post so that you can all bow down and worship me as your pigskin prognostication god.
I also got Donovan McNabb in the fourth round this year and Steve Smith in the fifth last year in my fantasy leage.
Aren’t I awesome?
What a dissappointing showing. When you make that many mistakes it is hard to win. Of course, even with that many mistakes it went into overtime, so that shows you how well we did in other areas. This is at least twice now where Santonio Holmes has fumbled straight off. He’s starting to piss me off!
Cut Holmes from special teams immediately. You’re telling me there’s no one else we can put back there?
Well, the Pittsburgh Butterfingers found a way to take what should have been an offensively dominating show and hand the win to the Falcons on a silver platter through sheer ineptitude.
Next week at Oakland. Should be an easy win, but who can say what create ways we may come up with to blow it again.
That should be creatIVE ways.
If Oakland wins next week, it’ll be the highlight of my football season.
I’m really grasping at straws.
After a certain amount of time to contemplate this crushing defeat, I’m still at a loss to explain it. The Steelers played an exceptional game offensively and not half-bad defensively, but somehow still lost. The turnovers killed them as surely as if they had been outgained by 300 yards. And the end of the game was an unmitigated clusterfuck.
Still, you know something is wrong when Mike Vick has his best game ever as a passer and the Steelers blow a 10-point lead when they’re playing that well. Yep, it looks like the chance to repeat is over unless they can sweep the Ravens and Browns and beat Cincy in their one remaining meeting. Anyone want to lay odds on that?
Don’t forget that we have to play Denver, New Orleans, Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Oakland also. From the way we’re playing, at least two of those will be loses, possibly 3. I would say there’s a better chance of us running the table in our division than coming out of those five games with 4 wins.
Ultimately, we need to go 8-2 the rest of the way to even have a wild card shot.
Huh…replace “Steelers” with “Eagles”, and invert “offensively” and “defensively” and that paragraph still works perfectly.
Guess it’s a PA. thing.
Oops, I missed your question of my post. Sorry about that. Luckily the thread has been revived.
From here:
That might not be what happened in the above situation, but it usually is. The networks hate switching away from a game that they’ve been showing.
Two interceptions by Ben and one returned for a touchdown. We are now down to the Raiders by a touchdown.
Bench Ben NOW. If by some miracle we don’t blow this game he needs to sit out for at least a month to fully COMPLETELY heal. I no longer have any confidence in the decision making of the medical staff.
This is the end of our season.
How 'bout that last pick? And how 'bout those two consecutive unsportsmanlike penalties earlier?
You know, it’s not that expected the glory days to last forever, but I certainly didn’t expect an implosion of this sort so soon after reaching the pinnacle.
On the goal line, chance for the lead, interception thrown by Ben and returned 100 yards for a Raiders touchdown.
Congratuations Steelers, from Super Bowl champs to the basement of the AFC. What a ride it’s been.
…and the season is all but over, almost as soon as it began. 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Carr. Big Ben with 4 picks.
Oh well. Such is life. At least they got a ring last year. And I’ll still be watching them faithfully, come hell or high water. Which it looks like it’ll be this year.
As bad as our skill players have been, Cowher deserves the majority of the blame for this. Once again he completely refuses to accept how horrible our quarterback is playing and make a substitution.
It’s the same shit when Kordell was our QB, and we’re seeing it now.
Yes Bill, I know Ben is our starter, I know he’s the guy to build this franchise around. But he is shit right now. Don’t dance around that. Don’t blame the injuries. Take him out. We have one of the best backup QBs in the league and he’s sitting there powerless.
Ben needs to come out and he needs to sit out of the starting position until he can earn the spot back. If that doesn’t happen until next season, FINE because at least then he’ll have had the opportunity to fully heal from his car accident, appendectomy, and two concussions.
I am fucking irate right now.
You know, at the start of the season Broncos at the Steelers looked like the game of the week for week 9 (not counting primetime, which is going to be a damn good matchup.) Right now, it looks like it’ll be a blowout (and I have to admit, I’ll probably enjoy every minute of it) if Roethlisberger starts. If Batch starts, the Steelers definitely have a chance.
…and could it be that I’ve given up too soon? I think I’m going to lose my mind if they manage to pull something out of nothing every week.
