so - did anyone else catch Barry’s dad say something to the affect his in-laws name was ‘Garrick’ ? or did I mis-hear taht.
Nope, we all heard that.
You heard it right. It’s a bit weird that Barry didn’t know that, but apparently Barry’s grandfolks died before Barry’s mother did (TV characters don’t have extended families), and apparently he never had a reason to look into his family tree.
His paternal grandmother’s maiden name? I don’t know what my paternal grandmother’s first name was, never mind her maiden name. And she didn’t die until I was in my 40s.
Some people care more about their family trees than others. Before junior high, I knew my family tree back three generations on each side, including maiden names. My cousin got interested, and he traced it back on my mom’s side to before the Mayflower.
Sure. I know a lot more about my maternal grandmother’s family, because one of my mother’s cousins was really into genealogy and dug into the history, which got shared with us. But I don’t have a hard time believing that Barry was ignorant of his paternal grandmother’s maiden name. If a family isn’t into genealogy, you might hear it once or twice and never think about it, because she is just grandma. Not to mention, she was apparently all ready dead before his mother died, so even less likely to have heard it.
I find it hard to believe there is a large number of metahumans hiding out because they’re afraid the Flash might get them. You know, you could just move to another state or something. Flash doesn’t really police a very large area.
Agree Barry is in a sort of coma inside the speedforce and will have to talk himself back out. Maybe Cisco can vibe his way in to help.
Hello Kid Flash.
They are NOT going to call Wally Kid Flash. (Okay, somebody might joke about it, but it’s not going to happen.) He will probably be Impulse.
As to Flash not policing a large area: True, but he can get to wherever the villain is PDQ. OTOH, maybe the villains are using their powers, but discreetly, so they don’t attract attention.
Yeah, I know they won’t call him Kid Flash, but they’ll allude to it. Cisco is the official namer of things.
But if there’s that many metas out there, wouldn’t at least some of them try and use their powers for good? Is it really only Barry who’s got that moral fiber? Somehow paints a bleak picture of the citizens of Central City if anyone imbued with the slightest bit of power immediately realizes that all they ever really wanted to do was rob banks and murder people, and only their weakness up to now kept them from doing so…
I’ve had the very same thought.
I’ve fanwanked it by thinking that becoming a meta-human fucks with 99% of people’s brains in that it turns them sociopathic and Barry was in the 1%. Of course, his friends that have become a meta-human all also seem to be in that 1%, but one can only fanwank so hard.
In the first season, Eobard Thawne (in the guise of Harrison Wells) confesses that his particle accelerator killed a number of people. He said their names, and two of them were Ralph Dibny and Beatriz da Costa. In the DC universe, they are, respectively, the Elongated Man (a partner of the Flash and like Mr. Fantastic, power-wise) and Fire, a/k/a Green Fire. She had fire powers and was a heroine. I’m guessing he murdered them to be sure they couldn’t become the Flash’s allies.
I just thought that was an Easter Egg for the fans, and they had no plans on using those characters anyway.
I think it’s pretty realistic that most Metas wouldn’t be a super hero, and also not be a villain (and not just out of fear of the Flash). I think Zoom coming and threatening people’s lives will be a bigger influence towards villainy than the absence of the flash
