We also get to finally learn the identity of who Savitar is. I have my own theories, which I will spoiler-box for consideration’s sake.
For the longest time, I thought it was Future Barry. We know it is someone that is intimately familiar with Team Flash, so it can’t just be a random character whom we haven’t met yet. Well, presumably, at least.
Then, I was talking to the host of my brunch place and he proposed something else.
We know that Caitlyn has learned his identity, and she immediately aligned with him upon the discovery. Who would cause such immediate loyalty?
Ronnie Raymond.
He disappeared into the timestream / speed force / what have you. So, who is to say he hasn’t absorbed new powers while away? Also, it might stand to reason that he’s going after Iris as punishment for being away from Caitlyn for so long. Barring some sort of outside influence, it is somewhat of a character assassination, but Future Barry just seems too obvious now.
Also, it’d be very impressive if they’ve kept Robbie Amell’s presence a secret for so long. (Yes, I know that he wouldn’t need to physically be on set until Savitar was out of costume, but surely they’ve filmed numerous scenes of that by now.)
OMG! Savitar is Barry Allen!!! Whoever could have predicted such a thing?!
For a while during the episode, I thought Savitar was going to to be Caitlin herself. Hence his saving Caitlin rather than killing Tracy himself. Come to think of it, why hasn’t he already killed Tracy? He obviously knows her significance. Why the rigmarole of sending lackey to take her out?
Killer Frost’s Frozone-inspired method of locomotion was pretty cool. I was hoping we’d get to see such a thing before the series ending and the effect presented completely lived up to expectations.
I wonder how long Tracy is going to stick around. She obviously has/will have special insights into the Speedforce so she’d really be useful to Team Flash. She could be the first S.T.A.R. Labs employee to actually do research. Maybe Barry could give her a grant.
And we’ve obviously shown that the timeline HAS been changed, as “Once and Future Flash” Future Flash didn’t know who Savitar was, but Current Barry (finally!!!) deduced it.
OK … so why did Killer Frost/Caitlin bow before an unmasked Savitar if it was jut Barry? Any chance Savitar has some kind of mind-alteration or shape-shifting power that allows him to mimic others?
I think it makes sense. Caitlin was present for all the “I am the future Flash” sessions. Savitar specifically sought Killer Frost out and revealed that he was indeed the future Flash. She must realize that future Barry knows something she doesn’t.
Speaking of people from the future, Eobard Thawne’s taunt during Flashpoint of “Now who’s the villain, Flash?” suddenly takes on new meaning.
OK … but then why is she setting out to harm 2017 Barry Allen in last night’s episode? Is there no concern that she could inadvertently break the temporal chain that leads to future Savitar? If Killer Frost kills 2017 Barry, then what happens to future Savitar? Or is she doing something (subtly) in her square-offs against 2017 Barry to indicate that she is pulling punches?
And the reverent bowing before Savitar (last week’s episode) still doesn’t make sense. A look of surprise and recognition, yes. A look of sheer shock? Sure. Supplicantly bowing down? Nuh-uh.
From dramatic standpoint they should have Killer Frost stay evil permanently and have the new Physicist slide into Team flash. She’s a much better actress and had more Chemistry with the other actors than Caitlin ever did.
Also, seeing Ice Man’s locomotion in live action was really neat.
Also, what a shocking surprise. Who knew it was going to be Barry from the future?*
*Everyone knew. It was not a surprise.
I watched half of it last night but had to go pick up my daughter from diving practice. At about 8:00 my son started texting me from his mom’s phone to tell me who Savatar was. Yes, my 9 year old boy guessed it several weeks ago too.
And I didn’t see his face but apparently Savitar-Barry Allen looks kind of like Deadpool now.
The ice slide means of locomotion is something Killer Frost used in the comics, at least in the 1980’s. The chase scene was excellent.
Since those scars are still there despite Barry’s healing power, maybe that means Evil Barry is deliberately keeping them there? Out of guilt, or because he thinks they look cool, or some other reason?
I did think that Tracy Brand looked like a younger version of “Cutthroat Bitch” from House. And then, it turned out that she is “Cutthroat Bitch” from House.
That was the most interesting part of the episode.
This whole plot doesn’t make any sense - which is a ridiculous thing to say about Flash plots, but this one doesn’t make sense on a huge scale rather than just the normal level of logic fail.
Also, I’m tired of these people keeping secrets from the wrong people for the wrong reasons - it has never once worked. Ever.
And she uses her previously mentioned (but not explained) skills in Krav Maga (which Ted had thought was a kind of yoga) to explain her feelings about being broken up with on her birthday, a second time.
