The founder of eharmony.com creeps me out

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but this is what I have so far:

It’s the way he talks. He sounds like he’s trying to over-emphasize that he cares. It’s like he’s talking to a small child, and trying to convince us by the tone and cadence instead of by what he’s actually saying. I get an impression of false sincerity.

It’s also weird how his face changes expression for no apparent reason while he talks.

Does anyone else get the same feeling when an eharmony.com commercial comes on. Am I crazy here?

I think the pitchman from Robert Sheckley’s Grey Flannel Armour seemed more sincere.

(And “e|Harmony” just makes me think of how folks relate to their friends at a Phish afterparty.)

I feel like he is trying to sell me something he knows I’ll hate but hopes I’ll be stupid enough to buy anyway so he can get his hands on my money. Don’t think so!
